I was gonna say the same thing.  The writer understands what's going on and states it clearly.

Forbes apparently lets basically anyone write for them, if you're good enough they'll buy the article. That's according to one of their regular writers, Paul Tassi, who covers video games, mostly one in particular.

Those standards are allegedly not that high, and I've certainly seen Tassi make many mistakes over the years, but I don't know that it's fair to expect him to have an editor who knows the minutiae of one video game. It is what it is.

They did not state that they were closing down.

Are we really going to niggle over this? How else would your average joe interpret this statement by them? “We regret to inform you that despite our best efforts and all of your wonderful support, Bad Idea as we know it must end,” they said. “Our sincerest thanks for the incredible journey." Or their literal statement 'Bad Idea Is Over.'

The intent of the statement is blatantly clear in what it's trying to convey to consumers. Now, sure, it's a hoax, but that doesn't change the wording of their statement.

It really is a great figure. I posted some pics of mine several pages out, you might check them out if you're inclined. I'm still not going whole hog on this line, but I do have John Constantine and the new "steel box" (or whatever it's called) Wolverine on pre-order. Trying to not get sucked in too far on this line...

Terrific photos! Yeah, Dr Fate was also my first figure from the line, and I've now preordered Bishop and the Fantastic Four set. I'm also deciding if I want either of the versions of Cyclops (probably not, neither really speak to me). I'm lucky in that I haven't liked that many of their redesigns, but now it's a whole new ballgames having one in-hand, and knowing how good they can be.

My main problem is I already collect too many lines and have 2 expensive lines I collect, one regularly and one fairly often now, Transformers Masterpiece line and Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat line, neither of which are cheap. So something will have to give.

  4. I'm torn on this new Cyclops from DST. I love the sculpt, and it's my favourite costume, currently only represented in my statue/bust collection by the Kotobukiya bust with the weird rotating base (beautiful piece, just a bit odd). On the other hand, I don't feel the paintjob is quite up to snuff. The paint looks (to me) like it lacks refinement, and is a bit thick, not the slick applications we expect these days. I feel this way about most DST resin paintjobs.

Here's the piece in question: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/167795

Anyone have any thoughts on it? I'd love other opinions to help sway my purchasing decision one way or the other.

The short version? The company is not "closing", but more of a rebranding. The clues are are already presented in this thread...

Why should I need to search out 'clues' on such a simple thing as 'is a company I may enjoy closing down as they stated they were.' That statement affects my finances (even if just in a minor way) inconveniencing me and just plain annoying me. You just don't do that to customers on such a basic part of your business. How many people will take it as fact, like any sane person would, or get frustrated, and go 'screw it, I'm out'? I want a comics company, not a drama production.

It's also not like Indy companies. They mostly aren't chosen to be stocked by the retailer, and would be elated to hear retailers and customers are demanding their books. This is the other way around. Retailers are approaching Bad Idea for their books, and signing on to their rules just to touch their books, a very different situation.

Bad Idea's new name? My super secret inside source tells me it's FDQ Comics.

It seems like standing outside the Pawn Stars shop with a "I pay more for comics than Rick!" sign could be a winning strategery.

But you don't offer the other half of what these people want: the opportunity to be on TV and have their 15 minutes of fame. I'd wager many, if not most, know they could get better prices elsewhere, but they're settling for less for the opportunity to be on television.

I dont know anything about the mutant turtle guys.

They're Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles. That order is important, okay? Only the true fans really understand that, and will shy away from stories that don't prioritise the hijinx in that specific order. Give 'em the Dark Phoenix Saga and it's junk if the focus isn't on their teenagerism first and foremost.

    Follow me? No? Great.

I pre-ordered as well.  I'm not a fan of most Mezco cloth goods, and the uniforms on these look somewhat like sweaters, but the Thing looks spectacular, and the accessories are incredible.  Mr. Fantastic's stretchy swappable parts look hella fun too, I wish Hasbro would do that same thing with an upcoming Legends release of Reed.

Their recent Dr Fate was my first Mezco 1:12 Collective, and it's pretty great, so if it's that good (and the 4 look waaaaay better) I'll be satisfied.
