  1. I was actually thinking about this - its that art that we originally loved and are nostalgic for today, is clearly not the best art ( as seen through the lense of someone who has been collecting art for a while and such has a better/stronger? Sense of quality) but we are afraid to admit it.
  2. Already marked on CAF - but let me say it here. A truly fantastic find. Move over j. Scott. Mad did a great job on this one.
  3. Ron still does comissions. Available via catskill comics. His rates are pretty fair. Value guess is 100-300. Depending on size.
  4. Great page Completely missed this piece. Congrats.
  5. Only way to go from here in colllecting is downhill. This one is the mother of all great pieces. Its uncanny, fantastic, amazing... you know it!
  6. So this is the focused auction. For anyone looking for decent stuff on a budget - there are tons of stuff to look at. Even bid. Anything stand out to you?
  7. Thats an awesome find. All these years being a Spidey fan and I never knew about this.
  8. I have zero nostalgia for sekowski, but he's on my want list. I think his JLA art is charming and fun.
  9. Outstanding piece of art. Love the classic catwoman. Inking is quite nice too!
  10. I personally like adding an image in the post itself. The new boards make it easier than ever. I also enjoy having the link as seeing one piece of art gets me curious what else a person collects.
  11. I liked his dark knight series much better.
  12. If it sells to cooli-ness at this price, they will add title stats and the valuation will be $2400-$3600 shortly there after. There it will remain for years, price rising wih no future buyers.
  13. You got to get her in front of a portfolio review as soon as possible. Once she breaks in and takes the comic world by storm - guess who has the best access to fresh art?! So lucky.
  14. Is that threshold moving up with the market?
  15. I am struggling with the same thing. But in my case its not clear if its the pencils or a prelim. The final cover was painted - by another artist - so I am not sure how to classify it. My intention is to ask Mike Zeck next time I see him at a con. If its not the final pencils - I was thinking to have it inked. If it is, well then no chance I will alter the art. See what I am talking about here.
  16. My problem with pages that are split (pencils/ ink) is that its no longer 1 of a kind. For me, original art (vs. Prints or art books) is all about owning the one original. If there is more than one it is less desireable for me. While I do own some pencil only pieces - I often wish they were inked.
  17. First off I am not appologizing in any way for enjoying the art. I just dont think to myself - wow that is great art. Fun, enjoyable, nostalgic ..yes. On a sad note - the artist passed away in 2010. And as an artist known for his own creations rather than being just another guy who drew batman (or insert -marvel/dc property here), I admire the success he had for himself.
  18. Rob is a great example. I dont think he is a great artist - but would be happy to buy a piece of art by him as the nostalgia is strong. Ruben's 's point is (as I understand it) not buying something because the art isnt that good, but buying in spite of that and owning up to it.
  19. The other day I posted that I got Elflord covers on my CAF page and in the description I mentioned that I was very happy to get these EVEN THOUGH the art isn't all that great. In reality, nostalgia is huge for me - but I am not blinded so much that I actually think the art is good. I feel the same way about other comics and cartoons that are nostalgic for me. Anyway - the reason for this topic, is the comment I got from Rurben da collector. His comment made me wonder how others feel. His comment (edited down): let me sincerely congratulate you, for being the very first CAF member other than myself who I've ever seen be honest with himself about the quality of the art, rather than let nostalgia blind you as it does everyone else. Nostalgia can be a wonderful thing, but it should never be used as an excuse for fans to keep their rose colored glasses permanently on their faces and claim how great the art is. There's nothing wrong with being able to recognize and admit that the art in comics you loved as a kid isn't all that good. See full comment and art here.
  20. Not sure what happened to the caf link at the bottom of each post. Used to have that in the old threads. Tried activating it several times - but hasnt worked.
  21. Love this piece. During the tour the artists sat at tables in a square around a giant tree or rock. Wish I could dind the photos.
  22. I actually forgot about them until the day of the auction.
