  1. Are you a comic art addict? Just wondering if I am alone on this. Constantly thinking about art. When I collected comics, it was something I did on the weekends. Mind you - there was no internet back then.
  2. Don't forget about Jim Lee Painted art. grabbed some images off google.
  3. So there is no wrong opinions on this thread, but as a guy who loves kirby and mcfarlane, while also loving some of the guys above - I wanted to share my feelings on it. with the exception of JR JR, the majority of artists on your overrated list - are primarily cover artists. Yes Ross did draw interiors at the start of his career, but since then has become primarily a cover artist. Campbell and Hughes same deal. Covers generally get higher prices because they are more sought out than interiors which makes these artists more in demand. Another difference that Campbell, Artgerm and Hughes have with Mcfarlane and Kirby is drawing sexy girls or pin ups. They have a different focus all together. Most collectors love them because of this. With respect to JR JR - most folks that I have met - don't really like his work. This to me would say he is not overrated that often. In the cases where he has fans, I would argue its tied mostly to nostalgia. For instance, I love his Punisher War Zone stuff - but am not a fan of most of his super hero stuff. Another point is that Adams, Artgerm and Ross all do great realistic paintings that have their own audience. While I personally prefer Inked art to painted art, there are many that see painted art as superior or more desirable. any way. that's my
  4. Looks terrific, but need to see the frame more. This is the section for framed art after all. If you got time, lets see a wider shot.
  5. The style looks fun for sure. More of a kids book feel.. and very nice indeed.
  6. Johnny quest art wanted Looking for a great page or possibly illo of johnny quest and gang from the 80s. Heritage had a lot of pages come up - but not with everyone on them. If you got a piece you wouldnt mind selling - please let me know. Thanks.
  7. Wow. I really thought the art market (collectors anyway) were less likely to play these kind of games. Thanks for the heads up!
  8. There is a lot of stunning art coming out of Valiant these days. Been considering reading some to see if the stories spur interest in buying the art.
  9. This looks great to me. Clear and friendly. The only problem is that people often don't read. Or their english may not be good - so misunderstand what you said.
  10. New addition to my Spidey Gallery. J. Scott Campbell spidey vs venom. Spidey art here
  11. add me to the list of folks who care. Getting a fun badger page is on my list of things to keep a look out for. And who doesn't love Bruce Lee?
  12. There is always a bunch of this stuff on ebay at very affordable rates. While I appreciate the art - I have never read this series. This looks like a nice example.
  13. I am one of those that loves thor and since Frenz was the artist on spidey when I started - I gotta say -this is a very nice page.
  14. Thanks Felix! Probably the most fun podcast to date. Tons of energy. Scott painted a vivid (colorful?) picture of those days. I felt transported to the 80s. Hope you can do a 2nd one with him regarding the other creators he mentioned.
  15. Not sure how many of you check out other non-art threads on cgccomics - but came across this today. Thought it was worth posting. Its in the 'got a comic room' thread
  16. This is a cool cover. The 1980s FG film was bad but I remember it fondly so anyhing with Ming on it is a great pick up in my book. The hitler thing kept me from getting a leniel yu cover previously that featured hitler. On the other hand there are many great examples of heroes fighting Nazi soldiers. Batman, Captain America are two that come to mind.
  17. If the regular cover is nice - I would prefer it, but great looking variants by an artist I like is better. Some variants have nothing to do with the series. I have seen nice covers - where its a variant featuring a character that is not in the series. Since I cant recall the specific example - here is a made up example: a daredevil cover - showing captain america (no DD) and Cap is not in the story. Just on the variant.
  18. Great thread. I often get emails enquiring about pieces in my gallery. As I have been pruning my collection and focusing more .. most of what I got left are keepers, so I ask the person to make an offer. If I get a request for an item that I am looking to move out, I usually have a price range that I provide. For example - $1000- $1500 range. Or $300- $500. This gives the buyer something to work with. Its tough to make an offer with no context. The reason I dont offer the range for items I hope to keep - is that I am afraid it will sell. Sounds crazy now that I am typing this - but its honest. I try and remove the NFS statement that CAF puts on automatically - because I love interacting with other collectors. The NFS is too stand-offish. On the reverse side - afer seeing all sorts of art show up at auction after seeing it listef on CAF as NFS or permanent collection - I realize that it's worth making offers on these kind of pieces. You just never know.
  19. Funny - before posting this topic -I thought that batman or spider-man were 2 characters that would never be under-appreciated.
  20. Show off your under-appreciated art We all have art we love, that doesn't seem to get much attention from others but we still love. Would love for others to share one piece of art from their collection that doesn't get a lot of attention, but you really like. Also tell us what about the art you like. It could be nostalgia, or it could be an artistic detail or something else all together. To get this started, here is a piece of art from my collection by Mike McKone. Mike is a British artist that now lives in the US. Below is a cover from Avengers Assemble by Mike. I got it primarily because it had Black Widow on it. But I also liked the line quality and depiction of Hawkeye. The background detail also looks great in person. Not a fan of the colored version. I first saw this piece at San Diego Comic Con. Liked it, but didn't buy it. The following year I saw Mike at another show and when I saw he still had it - I jumped at it. It was a piece I had in my mind all that time. As such - I knew buying it was the right decision for me. If you are curious you can see the color cover in my CAf page. http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1342166
  21. With the 2nd movie almost upon us, figured it was time to post this artwork. Added to CAF today - Guardians of the Galaxy #1 cover by Mark Brooks. See image in link below http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1353737 Here is the published version.
  22. Awesome Superman page! It does indeed look great framed.
