  1. Interesting article. Certainly parallels exist - the difference is that with guitars - current musicians affect sales, where as with art - being that us art collectors are a bit older - nostalgia is a bigger issue. That is art collectors are influenced by their past more. Perhaps the comic book market is a better parallel to the guitar market?
  2. So - this stuff is not the golden age art everyone was excited about, but it made my heart skip when I saw it in the Jon Berk auction. Back in the late 80s I loved a lot of the indy comics coming out. Funny animal books were a thing. Tmnt and cerebus were big obsessions but I also loved all the new titles coming out of a small publisher called Aircel. Elflord was one of my favorites. I was surprised by the closing price on these as I really didnt think there was much interest out there. If a boardie was the underbidder, let me know. Its great to meet other fans. Anyway - if you were a fan of any of that stuff coming out back then, please show us some indy boom art. Indy gallery on CAF
  3. Any original art topic that people want to discuss here should be considered fair game. Ridiculous or not. No one said there is anything wrong with flipping. But paying attention to it - as its being conducted on public websites and such is interesting stuff. I just saw 3 items I sold at recent auctions pop up for sale on CAF and ebay at 3-7 times what they sold for. If the new owner succeeds in selling at these higher prices with this little time passed - it will be a serious learning opprtunity for me. I have no problem with others profitting. It is just interesting to see. Initially after the art I consigned sold at auction - I thought it went to a fan. Felt good knowing it went to a fan. Well I was wrong on who it went to. It doesn't bother me as its not actually my business what the next owner does with the art. But I will say again - it is interesting. That in a nutshell is why I enjoy reading this thread.
  4. If you have a choice - just get them in person when you arrive. The line up is actually not that bad if you dont come too early. Let the eager line up.. and then walk in more quickly a few hours later.
  5. Any boardies planning to go to san diego comic con? Just over a month away. Wondering if anyone has made any plans yet. Wondering too if there will be another panel on art collecting. Last year it didnt go that great. Although I am sure it would go smoothly if Art afficionado was doing it.
  6. Possible they won too many items and are trying to unload some - without having to take physical posetion of the art.
  7. Todd Mcfarllane Hulk - Is it worth it yet? So this cover is up on Ebay at the same price for over 4 years now. 65k. Wondering what others think? The market in general has gone up a ton over this time period. Is this item finally worth the asking price, but now too stale to sell? Or is it still overpriced? Ebay link
  8. So just an observation (in general)- I always found my bids being biased by pre-auction prices. So in this example if the piece was 3k - I would consider anything over 6k to be high. This often held me back in winning. I have since learned it's good to do research -as well as figuring out your max bid regardless of other bids. In this example, it helped the 18k bid achieve the goal of winning the auction. He didnt care about others. Only worried about what he could afford and knew how high he was willing to go.
  9. First time bidder too. Saw it come into effect. First time I put in bids early and let it ride. Saw it kick in as folks tried to bid at the end. Definitely good to know for next time. On the positive side -won something. Will share once it comes in.
  10. Cant say for sure - but had a wonder woman piece in recent clink and it way way exceeded my expectaions. (And helped to offset losses on other pieces I consigned.)
  11. I was following the same item. Was surprised to see it in there to begin with. Perhaps it will show up in the next full auction.
  12. I agree with this line of thinking. Sniping is not a bad thing. Its just the way things are. The power problem interrupted normal bidding expectations While I didnt bid on these items, if they were on my list I would have been pissed by the lack of ability to bid. This has happened to me with cell phone reception - but in instances like that , I put the blame on myself. Ita great for all parties that these opened up again.
  13. Totally forgot about this great page. In an effort to avoid bidding on everything - I have only been using my watch list to go in and out of the auction. In the past, watching the whole thing lived led to unplanned purchases. Ha ha.
  14. Clink auction is live right now http://comiclink.com/Auctions/allsub.asp?Focused=1&id=1398 Anyone else following along? Hope to win 1 or 2 items tonight. Lots of affordable stuff so far. Could change quickly though.

  16. What sticker on the back? I have never found any stickers on art coming via clink.
  17. Depends on what you got. My choice is clink. Hetitage seems to get the big ticket items (but as a.buyer - £ wish they didnt since inhate the 19% premium). Ebay is food for sketches. You can sell on caf or these boards too - but note its harder to sell more expensive items at fmv without an auction unless you hit the right buyer.
  18. What is the link for the facebook group? Or is it strictly private?
  19. I second (triple?!) that. Looking for some Boris art too.
