  1. This is me thinking about what costume to wear ---> This will be me trying to bargain with Metropolis Comics ---> This is me buying Detective Comics 27 ---> Hoping to meet some of the boardies!!!
  2. Strictly from the front cover scans you are showing, I kinda lean more to the 5.0 copy. Looks better with out the inked name on front. Unless you're Robert O'brien from Blue River... "Which frees this up" ... meaning: ??
  3. Now, those are some white pages! It's poetry in motion!! Those White pages have Blinded me with Science Wow that was officially the lamest post i have made to date Anyways, Science #1 Nope, not by a long shot! I kid, I kid true story!!! Now that's a splash page! Gotta find me some of that anti-gravitation fluid! Home Depot? How about posting the splash for the Electro story?!?
  4. Hi All. Why wait until Wizard World? How about C2E2 April 21-23, 2017?
  5. Fantastic 1st app. of Mr. Justice! A blue ribbon beaut! Plus, the "two big lead stories," Richy and Rang-A-Tang! (um, who?) Gino, I suppose you know there's art by your favorite, Ramona Patenaude, in this issue.
  6. I think they found the formula to attract little boys eyes I think we can all agree that the formula probably worked for boys of ANY age.
  7. Well, that brought me out in a hot flush! Cold showers help. Flex, it's nice to know someone other than me has an appreciation for crude double entendres!
  8. This thread has just reached amazing heights of awesomeness! I'm tied up in stitches.
  9. I like! Good stuff! That lion doesn't stand a chance!
  10. Man, I'm gonna have to put this one on my list. Especially if I can find one with colors like THAT! While only a CGC 6.5, I purchased my copy of that book for the strong colors it has: as per usual, I am just amazed at the differences in color on the Fiction House books. Yep, those differences in color strikes never cease to amaze (at least for comic geeks like us -- my wife could care less!). I love those reds and dinosaur purples on Artboy's version. It seems like there are fewer red/purple versions out there than yellow/blue versions. Wonder if that means the printer started with red (and ran out of red), or started with yellow (and ran out of yellow). Or were they printed at totally different places or times...?
  11. Not sure how she's going to get out of this predicament!
  12. It's not easy to follow buttock's spread, but here's one recently arrived, and another I'm just getting around to posting. Some corner issues, but otherwise they're showing pretty well.
  13. I'll buy you some handsome flooring in exchange for, say, 4 or 5 of those nice books!
  14. Yikes! Deals don't get much nicer than this!!! What'd the other guy get? Nice hardwood floor BTW.
  15. It certainly does have nice eye appeal, especially for that grade.
  16. Great pick up, Rick! I almost bid on that, but I couldn't get past the tape.
  17. I seemed to have missed this one!! Very nice!! +1 And surprisingly, it's still the highest graded copy on the CGC census, even 12 long years after it was graded. Yes, that's a sweet book. It really shows off the line work and amazing anatomical rendering of Lou Fine. According to Murphy Anderson's book (c. 2003), George Tuska and Murphy (a comic book newbie at this point) sat next to each other at Fiction House (~1943), and George watched Murphy do some drawings. George said, "Oh, you like Lou Fine, huh?" Evidently George was not too impressed. George went on: "Now, Lou Fine doesn't draw like that. He constructs everything. He constructs the figures, often drawing them nude, and then he'll put the clothes on them." This observation had a large impact on Murphy's subsequent style. And this Wonderworld 11 is a great example illustrating George's comments.
  18. HOLY S(&@!!!! This is awesome! And this is coming from someone who would just be happy with the LB Cole covers. I'm still working on that run (need a 5 & 11) but I'd love the early ones. I doubt I'll ever snag a #3, but this gives me some hope. Congrats!!! Tremendous! There are no words...
  19. Thanks Guys. I'll adjust the lighting, grab a drink, and begin my journey through this epic feast.
  20. Pardon my ignorance: how does this thread differ from the "Have a Cigar! Golden Age only....!" thread? It looks like there's a lot of overlap... Is the Cigar thread more for new purchases?
  21. I'm not sure where I read it...... maybe in Simon's Autobiography "The Comic Book Makers"..... but I believe it was attributed to poor (...if any) product display..... by that time the market was glutted and there just wasn't room on the rack for everything published..... I'd also heard that as an incentive, some publishers allowed the distributors to keep the returns for free in exchange for guaranteed shelf presence.... GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Poor sales may well have been the problem, at least in the sense that strong sales would presumably have preserved the series. But they axed Boy Explorers after only a single issue and Stuntman after only two. Makes me think that maybe there was a change in editorial direction or friction between S&K and Harvey management, or something else beyond weak sales. Those Boy Explorers on the splash page --- no doubt the original Yancy Street Gang! I've been reading Terry and the Pirates Vol. 1 that Bill Blackbeard put together. A lot of fun!
  22. G.A.tor: what a great way to launch 2017! I quite like the cover to AAF #1, with its scarlet and yellow, and the plummeting green lady with billowing skirts.
  23. Love this one! What color! Woo! WOW. Simply spectacular!
