  1. If your criteria for purchasing involves the stories inside.... this site is a must. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Yay! to the idea of judging a comic for more than its cover! There's 64 pages of quirky brilliance to be found inside. That website is a great resource to see what you'd be getting.
  2. Thanks rainmaker. The front cover shows pretty well, apart from the one prominent tape stain. But that back cover is a bit of a mess; the tape residue looks like, well, blood. As if that knife on the front cover found its target. 'Tis pricey for all that... +1 Based upon what I am seeing being slabbed as 3.0 graded books nowadays, it's like the difference between night and day. Almost makes me think that CGC graded books should probably have an expiry date or Best Before Date in order to eliminate the sometimes blatant grading inconsistencies when CGC is swinging between loose grading and tight grading time periods. Yes, much more money for CGC , but much more money taken out of the pockets of collectors. I guess the best solution is to buy the book, instead of buying the label. Lots of wisdom in those comments, Mr. Fine! One could reasonably infer that a restored book with great eye appeal should demand more interest than an unrestored book with ho hum looks, when matched (more or less) for grade.
  3. boom love that cover. 30 and 32 are both really cool non-bat covers in the run imo. One of Guardineer's classics! I love the stitching details on the green suit. Ah, so many books, not enough ______...

  5. So is it sitting on CC or CL right now? I'd love to take a peek.
  6. As in, the fella didn't get his exorbitant eBay BIN asking price?
  7. Not sure I get the beverlys reference, but I do get how awesome those books of yours are! Oh, wait, now I see the Beverly. Nice. So it wasn't just boys and immature men who read Detective Comics... BTW how many books make a pedigree?
  8. I saw those Foxes in the HA Sunday night auction. A little surprised that they weren't included in the signature auction, but the consignor still received strong prices. It is a very sharp looking copy and a nice pickup. +1 Yes, indeed, a real nice presenting book with a beautiful red cover to boot! Not so sure about the strong prices for the consignor though. Although this particular issue out of the four available did go for multiples of guide, it looks like Fantastic 9 sold at a discount to guide while issue #10 sold just barely at guide price. Especially since both of these issues were relatively high grade in the sense that they had only 1 higher graded copy. Not so sure the consignor would be happy with these prices on an overall basis, as I certainly would not be. Especially when raw low grade copies of Wonderworld's 11 & 12 were fetching close to 3K on eBay a few months ago while these relatively high grade Fantastic's only sold for $550 to $850 each. But a Fantastic steal of a deal (pun fully intended) for the buyer of these last 3 issues. #8 is the last of the fine/simon run. imo, there should be a tremendous dropoff thereafter, until the cool later books come around. 9 & 10 are not very desirable as far as i can tell. Exactly, after 8 there is very little interest until 21, 22, 23. It is all about the cover artist/art and while 11 is less bad than some others it is still pretty bad. There is simply no comparison between Fantastic 11 and Wonderworld 11. The post Fine/Simon books sold for exactly what they should and I doubt the consignor had outsized expectations since there was no precedent for those books to go for multiples of guide. That's a great book, nearmint. The Simon cover is eye-poppingly stunning. It does seem that the appeal of the cover art/artist is at full steam right now, (partly?) due to the fact that many GA books coming to market these days stay sealed in plastic, rendering the stories within said plastic of little consequence or interest.
  9. Reader or not love wonder 2. Wonder 1 AND Wonder 2. Aardvark, those are two of the most ancient wonders of the world (pun sort of intended). Seeing them side by side is awesome. What a pair!!
  10. S Great cover and nice looking comic. I agree. One of my favorite of the pre Batman Tecs. Spectacular! Flessel rocks.
  11. As the happy new owner of Tec 35, I agree with Gotham Kid -- the book looked so nice, I couldn't say no. I've convinced myself I picked it up for a reasonable price. Was actually expecting the hammer to hit harder.
  12. Totally agreed BP some of the middle ones of the runs especially cover wise are pretty BLAH!!! While I'm here again I figure I could share a few splash pages from Flame #8 that I find particularly cool and some downright creepy awesome!! "The Finger of Frozen Death" while not a full splash is just spectacular as are the others I suppose!! Gino, thanks for sharing! Those splash pages are exquisite!!! (go cubs :-)
  13. Kelly -- simply spectacular!! Those books are
  14. Congrats!!! Talk about Rare/Scarce. That small run has always been.Number one seems to be the most easily seen. Great book J!!!! Love it!! Homerun for sure falls into that late 41' early 42' category that i am so fond of. Also the best cover of the run IMO. Maybe you could show the group the first splash?!! Now that is one supreme cover! The colors amaze.
  15. Since the CGC 7.5 sold for in excess of $4000 just a few months ago it definitely was a good buy! on me for missing it. I am getting mine sent in for grading shortly. Don't believe it will be 7.5 material, but I am hoping for a good solid mid grade result Hi Jason -- just wondering, if you're getting it graded, does that mean you're planning to sell it...? If so, count me in as interested!
  16. Nice books RM. Was George compelled to decorate the interior pages with his name too?
  17. Smokin' indeed! There's so much going on with that Hangman cover!
  18. Nice! New pick up? It's got Zolnerowich penciled all over it. Put a space ship in the background, and a tomahawk in the lion's paw, and you've nearly got Planet #14... --> compare the line shadowing on the girls', umm, upper leg area --> compare the dates: Jumbo #30, Aug. 1941; Planet #14, Sept. 1941 --> compare the lions' claws --> compare the rendering of the girls' left hands I'll stop with the now.
  19. An early precursor to all this Gorilla Madness: Before there was King Kong, there was Ingagi, a 1930 exploitation movie. Here is the theatrical poster. Not quite in the style of our Fiction House stable of fine artists!
  20. Straw Man: That - Cover - Is - Awesome!! Everything tastes better with gorillas. Oh man, as the song goes: ? it's rainin' gorillas! Sweet books, Kelly! Nicely done.
  21. Straw Man: That - Cover - Is - Awesome!! Everything tastes better with gorillas.
  22. Neat-O!!! Very nice! Really defies gravity, that one does.
  23. Robot Man -- that's a great looking book! And thanks for that Quinlan splash page. Maybe because Holyoke Publishing Co. published issues #12-30 of the Blue Beetle (June '42 to Feb. '44), there was a different roster of artists available than at Fox; thus enter Quinlan... BTW was there any creative collaboration between Fox and Holyoke during this stretch of issues?
  24. Gorgeous book! Interesting, in Wonder Woman #4 (April/May 1943), drawn virtually the same time as your Sensation #15 (March 1943), HG Peter used the same technique of shadowing the foreground baddies in blue, almost making them look like spectators watching a stage play starring Wonder Woman. See below.
