  1. Electron, you rock! Thanks for sharing those pages! Beautiful art by Guardineer. That top panel on the second page is intense, vicious, visceral. Nice how in the lower panels everyone is perfectly relaxed after the "incident" with the knife and the rifle butt.
  2. And in keeping with the need to drum up action on this board (as a collector), here is a pair of Sensations that I picked up not too long ago.
  3. Returning to Knightsofold's post from August... This is an interesting observation. It's curious why this thread doesn't attract more attention on the boards. Given that there has been such increased demand in the WW books, one can only conclude that it isn't boardies who are buying up (and driving up the prices of) these books. Instead, it's probably speculators (under the spell of movie hype) looking for a sweet return on their investment. Just my two cents. Any other ideas?
  4. Congrats. What a beauty! Quintessential Flessel. A truly timeless portrait of the American Frontier. Any interior pages worth sharing...?
  5. Gino, that's an awesome array of Foxes! I love that US Jones -- we never did figure out the deal with all those gas masks. My guess -- a traveling salesman trying to reach his monthly quota.
  6. Thanks Robot Man. Definitely one of the new stars in my collection. Yep, the boards are a good outlet for the geeks among us! It's obvious I'm not alone in this experience; I've noticed there are entire board topics devoted to the "What does your spouse think about your comic book collection?" sort of thing...
  7. Stunning book! Congratulations on the pick-up! There is definitely one person who was not pleased with this book, and that is my wife! Her feelings can be summed up like this: and like this: Yes, but aren't all wives like that! Believe me, she'll be really happy and elated when it comes time for you to sell it for much more money. Dramatis personae .....Me, in a hopeful tone, holding a slab of plastic. .....Wife, in a skeptical tone, with arms folded and eyebrow raised. Scene: A bedroom with faint odorous traces of aging pulp paper and a garish version of the 46th Edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide on a side table. Wife standing over the shoulder of Me, sitting at a desk. Me: "The cover's by Lou Fine!" Wife: "Who's Lou Fine?" Me: "One of the greatest artists of the early Golden Age of comics." Wife: "Did he just do covers, or stories too?" Me: "Well, he did some stories." Wife: [silence] Me: "His detailed line work was amazing, and his covers capture a lot of psychological tension." Exit wife. Fin
  8. Stunning book! Congratulations on the pick-up! Thanks everyone for your comments! There is definitely one person who was not pleased with this book, and that is my wife! Her feelings can be summed up like this: and like this: This book will definitely join my sig line, whenever I get around to making a sig line.
  9. Along the same lines: this was the gem I found in Chicago. A few spots. But it's Lou Fine with spots! (Also posted this in the Lou Fine thread, but figured it was Quality Time worthy in its own right.)
  10. This just in! A long time in transit, but home at last, with Bert and George and Lou.
  11. Sweeeeet Wow i guess the previous one is missing a gun toting hero and a mad scientist but no worries BP has got that covered in spades with this one!! WOW what a copy!! Thanks all for sharing those early Weirds! Beautiful books. That meddling Dr. Mortal never learns his lesson! Even when "the gun barks" he's still trying to complete the transfer of vital spirits from the lady to the monster. (Note the large-caliber red tube for said purpose. Clever plan.)
  12. I can see why. Anyone who owns a copy of that one would be crazy to give it up. I was happy this went through Hake's. I don't think I would have had a shot had it been Heritage. Here's my contribution to the No. 2 party (CBCS 5.0/restored "slight"). One of my favorites. Via Heritage.
  13. Love it!! Wish I'd had $$ to spare for the Wonder Comics #2 at ComicLink a couple weeks ago. It was low grade, but still...
  14. lots of low grade high census fox books; that 5.5 puts this high census book to shame. I am starting to think that this perceived huge chasm between the supposedly large quantity of early Fox books as opposed to the almost non-existent quantity of later Fox books is probably not as wide in reality as we might think. In speaking with many long term collectors and quasi dealers, they all knew that early Fox books were tough to get and were worth a lot of money in any grade. When told about what was happening with the later Fox books, they all expressed surprise and said that they probably would not have considered slabbing a low grade later Fox book since they had not thought it to be a worthwhile process due to the perceived low valuation of these books. Obviously these were collectors and quasi dealers not in the know, but probably more of them out there than the ones in the know. Lou, those are interesting observations. Is there any reason (other than CGC census and "word of mouth") to think that the later Fox books would have been in short supply? Lower print runs? Decline in popularity? Extra shabby paper quality?
  15. Well, if this is the only copy in the census, then I guess you could also say that it is the "Lowest Graded Copy" of Weird Comics #15. That is a very funny comment! And one sweet book!
  16. 32 does have some nice stories. Recommended reading for sure Thanks for those splash pages! I never get tired of seeing that Hooks Devlin splash to Fight 32. And you can't go wrong with Lily Renee's Senorita!
  17. Wow, what a total headache. Rick, I feel your pain. I guess the old adage fits: if it's too good to be true, it probably ain't.
  18. A traveling gas mask salesman trying to reach his monthly target?
  19. Kelly, beautiful book!! What you can do about it is crack it out and imbibe its essence!
  20. Gino: those are absolutely fabulous. There seems to be no end to your resourcefulness!
  21. Now that's some stunningly graceful artwork from the hand of Lou Fine!
