  1. Planet #61, FUTURA/Enrico Bagnoli -- he rocks!!!
  2. And as this is one of those raw books, allow me to present some Planet 61 splash pages, for your reading pleasure. Planet #61, LOST WORLD/George Evans
  3. I was there Thursday and Friday. My first NYCC, and maybe my last. I was pretty overwhelmed by the crowds, the Hollywood media circus, the mystery boxes, the fake plastic trees, and the not infrequent stench. That said, there were a lot of excellent comic books to be had amongst all that noise, and many of the well-traveled dealers were there, though no Bedrock or Worldwide. To be honest, between August Wizard World Chicago and September Baltimore Con, there was not a whole lot of new stuff to be seen. It was great to meet up with several boardies, new and old (in spirit only). I had my eyes on some beautiful Super-Mystery Comics, Mystic Comics, Pep Comics, even Sqeggs' old Going Steady, but settled on just one book, low-ish grade, with a pro-active spine roll, yet a very affordable and readable placeholder for my Planet collection:
  4. Great stuff Artboy! Ah, the memories this brings back, seems so long ago now, the drama, the pathos, the Berk books and OA! I assume this is now hanging on a wall near you? Congrats!!
  5. A formidable trio, Sir!! Those Weirds have wings.
  6. Great copy! I was watching that one, and almost pulled the trigger, but turned my sights to Planet 29, to be posted soon.
  7. Hearty congratulations!!! Looking forward to your next act. BTW I love how you encapsulate the history of the early GA through the window of these Weird books.
  8. lpsunburst: I’m loving this!!! So was Weird 2 the last book you needed to complete the run?
  9. White pages. One of top 2 graded. Price kinda makes sense in that context, and in this current era... Though the added pencil work coming off the lady's hair -- looking like some decorative bird coil headgear -- is a distraction.
  10. Thanks Sqeggs! Or maybe the book just needs my "ring around the collar cover" Wisk liquid detergent treatment!
  11. Aha! Funds well spent!!! And hats off to the patient boardie!
  12. Huh. I've never seen that copy of Mystery Men 9 before! Perhaps there has been significant color touch, pieces added to cover, heroes replaced, baddies exchanged, banners modified, all of which escaped the CGC graders...
  13. Thanks for the feedback, sagii! Maybe a gentle chemical peel will clean up the left edge. And the bottom left corner. And the top edge.
  14. Thanks Steve. It's a rare event when a 4.5 beats ANY of your books!!!
  15. Well, it's been all of 5 days since this thread has seen action. Here's a fairly recent purchase, with nice colors, and crazy amphibioid translucent aliens by Lou Fine. Unfortunately, there's some staining along the edges. Fortunately, it kept the price within my reach! Maybe one of those clever chaps at CCS can ply their magicks on the stains... Any thoughts?
  16. Awesome books, Red!! Did you know the Minute Man was restored prior to banishing it to an eternity in plastic?
  17. Of course! In the distant future they will be using an advanced diabolical scientific melding process involving, umm, carpenter nails. Ah, what the future will hold!
  18. Spectacular colors on that copy! Hard to find them like this. My copy is a pale, wan thing (though still a Planet 56!).
  19. Kelly, I love your play by play on the Planet 41! Never noticed the hair nails. A 1940's method of a hair permanent?
  20. Aww, you've kind of just ruined that cover for me.
  21. Shark covers, gooood. Baker covers that look like something out of the Planet Comics run, goooooooooood. I was really pulling for that Amazing Ghost Stories #14...
  22. Yeah, pretty much. (Better than bringing everything into sex, anyhow.)
  23. I agree with the above 3 points, for sure! Historic, scarce, and kind on the eyes. But there is one other point: 4. Drawn by Baker This is the reason for the poor rankings of the PLs and Jo-Jo. As others have said, if this was simply about "best" cover, the PLs would likely all rise to the top 5.
