  1. Congrats!! Great price for that classic. I had to shell out a lot more for my 4.5 copy, that's for sure.
  2. My overall sense was that, at least for many of the Fox and Fiction House books, prices were soft, or at least reasonable/not insane compared to recent auctions, and I'm pleased with my pick-ups in terms of price for quality. I can't comment on the Zips or Peps; maybe all the zip and pep in those books ratcheted up their prices.
  3. Well done, my friend. The Eagle is really sockin' it to the baddie! And Buddy's takin' care of the torpedo issue!
  4. Thanks BB! That's a great scan. And according to GCD, this shows the origin of Sheena, "Part Two." Meskin's signature in last panel. Definitely emulating the adventure strips of the day.
  5. Sort of like finding an ivory-billed woodpecker or the fabled unicorn "in the wild," except it was actually Tec 31. Not a bad way to open the hunting season.
  6. And that's why they called it Jumbo Comics! Is the artwork in those jumbo Jumbos (1-8) just scaled up, or are there more panels per page? And are the stories and art generally on par with later issues, or were they pretty, um, basic?
  7. (One reason) why I like the boards. Always good things to be learned here.
  8. Good to know Flex! That does sound better for sure. And we all trust GAtor , right?
  9. You mean this one? Haha, that affinity seems pretty certain to me! But what a coincidence that your avatar so closely resembles the cover image...!
  10. Thanks Kelly and Flex! I agree, the book presents very nicely. It really is one of the cooler and unique covers from the rivet run, IMO. In an ideal world, the "slightly" brittle pages would be white pages, but I think it hammered at a more-than-reasonable price.
  11. Hello, I was the underbidder. Figured it was you!! No worries, I disembarked that plane and boarded the plane headed for #10. Nice books, Jason.
  12. Yes. Science 3. You know the one: crazy cover. Oh wait, most of the early Fox covers are crazy.
  13. And the hunt and the chase are a lot cheaper than the purchase!
  14. Well, your Fight 3 and especially your Fight 7 are sporting some sweet reds too. Plus those crazy apes =
  15. Hey, at least I left you that killer-grade Fantastic 3... And tonight there's the New Mutants 98 in 9.8. Yes, I'm psyched about the 11. According to my "records" (LOL as if), this same book sold at CC about a year ago. I had tracked it then, and was thrilled to see it pop back up now.
  16. Thanks Lou. I agree (of course). Maybe if we send Overstreet a strongly worded memo, or better yet, a copy of #11, he'll reconsider!
  17. Thanks Jack -- with my #10, it does complete that short Jumbo run by Fine. (Though it looks like Fine worked with Eisner on the cover of Jumbo 8, so maybe that book needs to go somewhere on my want list.) A "group shot" should be coming in the near future.
  18. Thanks Rick! Someone made me sweat out the #9 a bit. Though the reasonable hammer on #11 helped offset it. Was also gunning for the Mystery Men 6, but dropped out late; good news anyhow for my spousal relations!
  19. Yes, I think there's a note about that in GCD. If so, then it might have been slated to grace the cover of Planet #1, which was released pretty much the same month. Maybe Eisner didn't think it looked enough like a Flash Gordon space opera.
  20. That is such a cool photo, in so many ways! What is the placemat in front of Richard, to the very far left? Another Jumbo, or really just a placemat? It would be fun to know who are the other geeks lording over the placemats (as long as no one minds).
  21. Now that's a great pair of books! Fiction House rocks! I was watching those closely, but opted for another pair...
  22. I love books with stains on the back cover!! Heck, give me a front cover at 9.8 and a back cover at 1.0 (okay, 3.0), and I'm happy.
