  1. Though no need to worry about last second sniping, anyhow.
  2. Neat stuff! Never seen the likes of that Horrific and Strange Stories before.
  3. Well, Lou Fine was all about the detailed rendering of the human physique! In his autobiography, Murphy Anderson indicated that Lou would basically sketch the figures without clothes on, and only dress them afterward. There's always something new I see whenever I look at this book. Just now noticed that the chief surgeon drilling into the lady's right upper thigh is sporting "Fu Manchu" whiskers.
  4. Just trying to keep up with the literary wordsmiths around here. Tally ho!
  5. You mean this old chestnut? Yes, I agree -- not sure why this doesn't get the same love as Science #2-4...
  6. This cryptic dialogue is strangely reminiscent of that classic play by Samuel Beckett: Waiting For Gator.
  7. Great copies! Looks like the ink hasn't even dried on them yet, esp. the #49.
  8. Um, could you translate that? My brain works slow after lunchtime.
  9. Thanks Steve. Yeah... there is that "slightly brittle" thing. It gave me a moment of pause, but the moment passed. In a different thread from a few weeks ago, some of the boardies said that "slightly brittle" could mean just one small area of flaking and not entire brittleness, and therefore not such a big deal. It does look like there's some brittle bits along one edge of the back cover, but I'll take back cover defects any day of the week!
  10. So much going on here! evil queen with fantastic helmet and brassiere (aka Queen of Morog) her cylindrical glass throne area good-hearted girl next door, all tied up (aka Mimi) her comely dress green scaly goblinoids with eyebolt fireballs (aka Morogs) their blue booties and orange knickers and 7. this cute Morog who caused all the trouble
  11. Oh! I just noticed the creepy face in the spider web. Very cool book!
  12. Thanks RM! I was wondering if there might be other "Miles" books out there. Now I know! That's pretty neat. A quick Google search didn't have any hits. I would guess that in addition to the great books passing over their counter, there must have been A LOT of books passing over their counter, for more than a handful of them to have survived.
  13. Gino beat me to the punch. Not a bad way to inaugurate a Fox collection! Fantastic books! Thanks for the neat back-story on the genesis of your Fox collection. I was at Wizard in 2006 I think; had no clue that something so spectacular as Fox Feature Syndicate even existed back then. Hard lesson to learn, prices being what they are these days...
  14. Thanks everyone for the enthusiastic response! I got this book from the recent Berk "warm-up band" auction at ComicConnect. The price was very reasonable; whether it was the Berk effect, or maybe everyone burnt out (cashed out) by the time Science 3 landed on the auction block, or maybe the "TRADE THIS AT MILES 2nd HAND STORE Davenport, Iowa" stamp on the top front cover and in at least a couple places on the back cover, who knows. And thanks to one of the boardies who convinced me (sort of) to bid on this book in the first place. It really is quite nice in hand. I got the carpet in Morocco. I agree, great colors!! I might be selling the carpet at the next CC "Special Event" Carpet Bazaar Auction. (that's CC for CarpetConnect )
  15. From the Miles 2nd Hand Store pedigree. My first book with bipedal pachyderm alien robots. Loving it!! (...decorative carpet not included in purchase)
  16. Wow. That's mindblowing, Minh! What a treasure chest of books! But wait -- no Detective 31???
  17. +1. For many of those scarce GA books, especially books with great covers, the Overstreet Guide is no longer a benchmark. Of course those examples went for multiples of the Guide, but I guess the point I was trying to make is that compared to recent prices, there were relative values to be had at the CLink auction.
  18. Once I got past my vertigo, I can say I really quite like this book! A little unsullied pencil and ink work, a little color, and a little insight into the printing process. Good stuff!
  19. The Gabby Hayes title is still affordable... for now!
  20. I did see that the Wonder Woman books went for a healthy amount, especially #6 and #7. No doubt the "movie" effect.
  21. Hi sacentaur: you mention that CLink prices were strong in other areas. Any books you could cite as examples? I was following some of the Planets and Foxes, and those prices were above guide but certainly not crazy.
  22. Thanks Sagii! I should have more along these lines to unveil soon...
  23. Fortunately for me, or else someone else would be cradling it right now.
