  1. I bugged my wife at dinner as her first day back at work is tomorrow. She, wisely, "wants to give her (niece) a little space now." So when it happens, we'll ask.
  2. I'm I missing it somewhere? John Dolmayan's report is pretty funny.
  3. I have no idea who gave AF15OA to Smithsonian (Library of Congress? National Archives? - hey did I tell ya'll about when I worked at the National Arcives in College Park one summer and got to dealwith the Zapruder film original and the 3 secret service copies and all the wack jobs coming in thinking they'd solved the magic bullet secret shooter sh*t? Antoher thread. I guess) oh, where was I: Yeah I've never heard that story you say. I always thought everybody thought Marian Severenson gave it up. Just a feeling I had talking to niece is all with brother getting alot of artwork and Ditko getting mad at him over something about art. I'm often wrong. Often.
  4. when I had to start to force myself to stick with it, I bailed.
  5. I had limited time and didn’t see everything. You’d need months. I will say this. Paris is awsome for the graphic novel and printed word. Used bookstores everywhere. I spent an entire day in one next to Burroughs Beat Hotel.
  6. Thanks for clearing that up. Language barrier was an issue. But the guys in the shop were some cool cats.
  7. 83 rue Pajol 75018 www.paris-bd.com Was actually visiting a vintage movie poster place a couple of blocks away trying to complete my Carnival Of Souls foreign movie poster/lobby card collection (turns out it wasn't released in France) and was walking back to my hotel and stumbled upon this place, a cave really with tons and tons of vintage comics. Got talking to the guys there and if I understand correctly Marvel/DC characters first appeared in France in a monochrome digest called Strange. Marvel and Dc characters appeared together. The guys had tons of old Strange magazines, the earliest one (1965) was 180 Eruros. Eventually Stan Lee wrote a letter to the editors of Strange and the title was changed to Marvel and only included Marvel characters at that point. Found some weird old horror comics digest kinda stuff with booksellers on the Saine. I'm doing the translation to one I bought. Something about a crazy man who cuts the heads off women to take them to some kind of old dead vampire where he reattaches them to the bodies of different women who then have sex with the old dead vampires and the sexual contact transforms them to handsome young manly vampires. And this is 1965! Dublin was a bust comic-wise. Dublin City comics had back issues... of drek. They had one issue of the first red suit Daredevil issue tacked to a wall. They said "no one gives a mess about Pence comics, they want American ones." They did have a vintage toy/action figure store a couple of blocks away.
  8. My wife works with his niece. He has several brothers and sisters. According to niece Steve lived with his sister in nyc and they were very close. When sister died Steve was heartbroken and went downhill fast. Also according to niece Steve began mailing his brother (nieces dad) large amounts of his artwork starting around a year and a half ago. What Steve wanted brother to do with artwork is unknown to me. When my wife introduced me to niece she encouraged me to continue to write to him (as I had been doing for about, I dunno, a year at that point) which I did. Ditko s responses were generally all over the place. Sometimes mean, sometimes nice. If I had to gamble how AF15 OA got to Smithsonian, I believe Brother gave it to them not MS. Niece did mention that Ditko got very angry at his brother over something with art. I believe it to be this. Of course. I could be wrong. I was traveling around Eastern Europe when heard news Ditko died I was in a tiny village in Transylvania and went outside and saw a villager kid in Spiderman shirt. Kinda hit home the mass power of Ditkos work just got back tonight and wife has not been back to work. If it’s appropriate I’ll give my condolences to niece and report back if anyone’s interested
  9. What were the Ditko Rom issues?
  10. So when Stan Lee goes to the big $150.00 per item Signing In The Sky is that the last of the originals or I’m I forgetting anyone?
  11. What a drag. I have been writing Ditko for about the last year and a half and he always wrote back up to about 4 weeks ago hence my thread about a week ago here asking if anyone had heard from him recently. Figured something was up. His responses to my letters were all across the board but he said he enjoyed getting letters as long as the writer asked a specific question, which I always did. Im so grateful I got a chance to communicate with him. So long Mr. Ditko.
  12. Oh forget it. I found the Batman 457 variant thread and boy was it dull. Just once I wanna find a book in the wilds and have it be a score. This chit ain’t worth making room in my luggage by the box of Gas-x jet lag formula.
  13. Hey all. In Dublin. Found a copy of Batman 457 in antique store. Some of you jack offs around here are always talking about that book. (Rarely pay full attention around here and no I can’t find the threads, so there) so I snatched it up for 4 Euros. (5 bucks). Lets see. It’s about a 9.2. Direct edition. Says Batman 000 in masthead thingee. Did it finally happen? Did I finally find a book in the wilds and gonna flip for big $$$!?!? god the techno music in this pub sucks. Hurry. Need info!
  14. I kinda figure it's happen to a fair % of people,. Not so much the specifics of the horrible story, but finding of what's entertaining and what's not. Hence the question. I wonder how vets felt about G.I. Joe and the such? Not bringing you into it Buzz cause I know you like the action figures, just curious again.
  15. Likewise, I think Brian Depalma just cut to the chase when asked about the violence towards women in his films, "They're great looking and sexy women, what else am I going to do with them but kill them?"
  16. I remember some film interviewer was asking Hershall Gordon Lewis why the women in his movies were always killed and chopped up. And he said something like, "If women would buy tickets to watch men be cut up, than I'd kill and cut up men in my films but they don't"
  17. I love looking at the PCH books here for sale and have know a bit about them (especially EC) for awhile even when I was a a 10 year old collector. At 10 years old I'd think' "HOW DARE THEY CENSOR BOOKS." I don't have kids. Ain't gonna. So maybe it's more a question for you guys that have impressinable little ones now. And if you got little girls. All the girls dressed in no clothes about to be slaughtered/.But as I look through the groovy books you guys own, some of those PCA horror books are off the chain with the killing of near naked women. Just curious
  18. you know I had this cat on ignore too and I forgot why. Truthfully, I forgot. There's nothing in this thread that is "put on person on ignore" kinda territory. To me this thread is just one of the many swirling around services that promise to delivery 9.8 comics (heaven forbid they're not and it's like a 9.7, but to each their own. Why aren't they 10s? WHY ARE THEY NOT CGC 10?) or getting signatures. - kinda stuff
  19. It was always a phase for me. I was into toys, than fire, than B.B. guns. I have no action figures from my youth as I played with them. Got bored. Set them on fire and shot them with an air rifle. I guess I blew slot of them up with m80s too
  20. I’ve got my Moon Knight 1 CGC 9.6 up on the wall. Heck you only live once and I enjoy it. There are two windows in the room the book hangs in and i just covered the windows with aluminum foil.
  21. ouch. I tape pulled an EC comic when I was a kid. It's traumatized me to this day. I request the dealer pull the tape off when I inspected a book. Thank you.
  22. Quicksilver stand alone movie. Everyone seems to want this character in his own movie. Everyone I talk to does and I often ask complete strangers and they always say, "Quicksilver Stand Alone please." Then a Scharlet Witch movie. Then reboot Quicksilver movie. A steve Ditko documentary. Then Reboot it, before first one even hits streaming and x box Maybe the A-team somewhere. Then all the writers go to school and learn that a screenplay has two plot points. Maybe Syd Field or William Goldman or Robert Towne becomes a member of the x men? Make a movie with nothing but explosions and character turning with serious expressions to the camera. Reboot Reboot Commit Suicide Reboot
  23. I doubt it's in the CGC info that that's why. Let me call.
