  1. I saw Squirm on reel to reel film at my grandmother's house back in the 80s. Cannibalistic worms, basically. All I remember is the classic scene with the guy in the boat, falling over and standing back up with worms burrowing into his face. Given other discussions on this board how art is somewhat secondary to significance, well, I don't understand how that film can be priced so high (even though I think the art is pretty solid). Maybe there is a horror cult pricing angle.
  2. I remember being traumatized by Squirm as a kid. Its a great poster, but not sure I understand the system for pricing these. Food the Gods is also a cult classic, yet half price (I assume half the size??).
  3. I mean all of this is irrelevant anyway since we all report use tax wherever we live... HA should charge a convenience fee now for all the paperwork savings come tax time
  4. Thanks for the info. As suspected..., it was the top row that had me looking for things to sell for the next two months.
  5. I bet our definition of grail differs, but these images just had me pull way back on tonight's Heritage listings. Since getting into original art I simply cannot catch a break from the action. I asked PS on FB, but does anyone know if the September auction will be in LA or London?
  6. Because the crazy money flowed into vintage Star Wars toys...
  7. 2>4, but both under-performed expectations a bit. I totally forgot about these auctions...not that I'd be bidding on these.
  8. This was me last year - had attended several times before but not with an interest in OA at the time. Last year I made the trip and that is all I did. I was going to post this last year but thought against it. I might as well use this opportunity. I found myself a bit confused by the OA experience at SDCC. There was a ton of art and it was overwhelming. Pieces I had seen at auction and pined over were there, tucked away in portfolios with 1000s of other pieces of art. I admit that it cheapened it a bit for me and I found myself wishing there was a booth with maybe 12 masterpieces artfully framed, and nothing more, like you see with higher end art fairs. Of course I wouldn't be able to afford any of those pieces but you get the drift. Despite the mass of art I found nothing I needed, which made me realize how very specific my interests are.
  9. I am a simple man with simple tastes. This piece got me interested in comic OA,and if paired with the splash and I'd pretty much be content (and a Williamson Blade Runner and Star Wars page).
  10. I agree with this. There is nothing appealing to a new collector about a box of yellowing, bagged comic books. And with trades, the stories are all there. And to be honest what reading I have done I don't feel the need to return to very often, with rare exceptions. Slabbed keys have all the appeal, but even here the presentation borders on vulgar with the grade dominating the presence of the item on the wall. Its an easy step from there to OA.
  11. These are great coupons and also somewhat new to ebay. It used to be 10% eBay bucks was the best deal. Do these straight coupons at this rate suggest problems with the business since they are (unless I am missing something) paying people to sell on their site and losing money with each sale.
  12. Very curious how people handicap prices on these.
  13. As a fairly new collector I have to say HA is an absolute joy to deal with. My only complaint is that when my Sunday night invoice email comes it actually isn't ready yet for me to pay it
  14. Hassle free, but dropped me entirely after making a second claim in one year.
  15. Larry Hama pages from the comic adaptation of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977, Marvel) sold in the 30-40 dollar range. I bought the splash for a few hundred. The next big thing? No. But that movie was a weird memory of my childhood and some of the pages are pretty cool. CC sold the entire book at once, except for the cover. I bought the splash and last page, among several random interiors. Tracking those things close on CC was quite a chore.
  16. But the hammer was 9k, minus any fees from that (maybe another 10%). So that's a loss of closer to 4k I think vs. your offer.
  17. Too high? Puts DD1 in the 8 figure range I would think, will be sticking with my lithograph of that one I guess.
  18. Ironic watching a new Frazetta record getting set on today of all days. Crazy 1.5 million, 1.79 with BP.
  19. Odd. All I hear on HA Live is the computer voice with the stock picture of the auctioneer. Maybe I am confusing these with PIH where you see the actual guy running the auction.
  20. Is there no actual feed to an a live auctioneer for this auction?
  21. Count me in the camp of Moon Knight cover votes here as well. Isn't even close IMO.
  22. In terms of execution it should end below ATEC, but it likely won't given the character. This must be a barometer for others in the lineup. Regardless of the end price, what multiple does one apply from DD6 to DD1?? If this breaks 1m does that make the DD1 painting alone 5m (I understand rights are being wrapped into that painting, which complicates pricing). Hakes is bringout out two Blazing Combat covers as well, very different vibe but awesome nonetheless.
  23. Also depends on the artist I think. I am a bit heavy in the Ralph Bakshi and Mike Ploog (movie only) area, but for whatever reason its a black hole of want I cannot seem to fill. That's a bit niche for a hoard.
  24. No question for me the white is superior and I think the Hulk 344 cover is absolutely perfect in execution. This style of framing displays the art as an object in its entirety IMO. What is displayed is the physical piece of paper and you wouldn't really have to explain to a curious observer what is being displayed. Close mats focus on the artwork alone and not the actual thing, which kind of misses the point of OA I think. It is less obvious what is on the wall. The tight black mats are not working for me in most of these images.
