  1. I don't know much about Mad Magazine A local bookkstore has a stack of Mad Magazine, and I am asking is there any in particular that I should be looking for in the stack?? I want to say some of them had a 50 cent price on the mag, I don't know how much the bookstore wants for them but any suggestions on ones I should be looking for?? I can browse this thread but if there are some common collecter's issues let me know
  2. Thanks I might go by that bookstore see what's up, they might have more that just what I saw on the wall.
  3. So take ASM 300 for example: Spiderman in the box is a direct edition Barcode is newstand later they would both have a bar code but one would say direct meaning direct and one would say nothing and that would be the newstand edition Do I have that right?
  4. Thats cool I never thought too much about as a kid, I noticed the difference and asked LCS owners but never got a definitve answer....I wonder if it was really known at the time I also have a bunch of Superman/Reign of Superman/Death of Superman....with different words in the boxes.....I know there is a thread about that somewhere, I should get the low down...
  5. When I got back into collecting: I read up on it a little bit and "heard" that say ASM 300 with the spiderman on the cover in the box went for more....than "without" it, I didn't really notice if that was true, I guess actually I noticed the opposite... But my point being that I thought it was true across the board for that era, such as xmen 266 I thought it would be cheaper to by a UPC...so I bought etc BA 12, NM98, all UPC Are you saying I'm lucky? or that time will tell on that...? I know what you mean about "direct/newstand" but to be honest at the time I thought all "barcode" at that time was direct/newstand.....are you saying their not? also does anyone think that this goes back to say early 80's with some of the comics with the "black bar" diagonally through the barcode....? does this reflect newstand or direct/ns?? I have never heard the ratio's arguement..... I have always heard that the barcode editions were on the "newstand" in say: gas stations, grocery stores, etc. in late 80's and early 90's.....point being since they were on the "newstand" that they were "rare in high grade"..... I don''t think that it has caught on exponentionally...... Anyway....I'm just kinda talkin' to talk but since someone created this thread I want it to keep going for reference
  6. I suggest reading "the Complete Edlund." It's the original story. Very funny. You can probably find a better price, but this is the book: http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=22324837 Thanks I'll look into it
  7. I saw an omnibus at a local hole in the wall bookkstore, is it worth getting from a "collector's" standpoint? Or should I be looking for original copies? of the first series? 2009 series? Loved the show as a kid but I was like 10 or 12 and some of it kinda freaked me out the show annoyed my parents to no end Any details that I should know about an omnibus? never got one before, as far as I know it is just a collection of comics in a series......probably not a complete run....right? but if it is worth getting to read, which omnibus should I look for first? or does it matter, and I should just get this one and enjoy? Any info is appreciated
  8. I saw it for sale somewheres about but thought it might only be good for the first couple of issues, also thought I was the only one who thought it looked interesting, glad to know there's others that like to try new things.....I also did not see it at LCS today but regretting not buying it when I saw it the first time, guess it is never too late...
  9. murica awh that was a good chuckle pfffft-
  10. Took me a minute to see the difference but on one it does seem the 10c is further away from the bottom of the surrounding white box.... INTERESTING I admire your patience for noticing Edit: nice attention to detail....I don't even have the patience to notice and memorize price variants ie 30c to 35c etc.
  11. THat's a lot and sad part is, it probably isn't

  13. Just wanted to say one last time---- Nobody's chicken little I had already started a "new reply" before I saw someone had responded to my original post My Apologies (no chickens were harmed producing my posts)
  14. The sky is not falling" and I am not chicken little. But, this guy is bragging about knocking out dealers and saying they cannot compete with his business model..he looks like he enjoys getting more control..I don't see this as hoarding, I see it as something else......I see a plan....I see a reason for this plan...just don't know the details but my alarm bells are going off when dealers sell 100K -120K comic books lots for 1500..and he complains that it cost more to drive them home...... I agree your not chicken little !!! No one is in this situation....I didn't mean to grind any gears... It's just well not much anyone can do....and I agree it is a cause for concern and I agree he has to have an endgame, but.... I don't know, I just don't want to "believe" he would do it I guess, I guess I'll have to be shaken out of shock the he would? takes guts to become the most disliked in an industry....(how I would take it)
  15. Say he has 11 mil comics average print run of 250,000 and all his 11 mil are high grade copies that ruin the market thats forty-four comic key's that he's put into over saturation I mean I guess I see the point ANYTHING "COULD" HAPPEN- Chicken Little And we're basically figuring out how he could do it for him--- Sorry I didn't see your reply in time---if that is his plan and he can do it===it's called capitalism but that plan (or most of it) would take time----from what I've learned capitalism is a finicky business so.... I guess, Anything can happen?? time will tell---ADAMANTIUM
  16. This is a wall of massive text?? but exactly how would this "dumping on the market" occur? 1)Is is just because he has a bunch of comics and he sells them cheap? so everyone has a copy? driving prices down? 2_He sells them expensive? but there are a million of 1 particular issue that there is just an over abundance of it? driving prices down If he has them all on his website, anyway, then are we saying this is for sure going to happen? If he sells them cheap 1) we get copies cheap If he sells them expensive as he is doing, 2) we get them cheap somewhere else.... How is this dumping going to occur?? He gives them away? flooding the market? the fact is there are per se a million of each comic out there anyway, how does one person/company owning its share mean anything to anyone call me an insufficiently_thoughtful_person if you need to, just saying If were going to say that he owns everything and controls the market, then if that drives prices up so expensive that we can't buy anything unless we buy from him.... then wouldn't that mean what we already own we could sell for what he's selling them for and then buy the comics we need at the inflated prices, plus there are millions (im sure) of other comic owners in the world to think that he is "cornering" a market is ridiculous.... just like others buying CGC copies of a single comic and hoarding them If he owns all the "high grade" CGC and we just buy lower grade, how is that any different than it is now we just buy what we can afford, because any serious collector is going to think "his" prices are insane compared to yours----
  17. This. Link? If your talking about the joker lamp...... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Multi-color-Change-LED-3D-Jack-Joker-Lamp-Table-Desk-Touch-Control-Night-Light-/262603349470?hash=item3d24611dde:g:Mj4AAOSwdIFXx4c7 just put into ebay Joker 3d lamp, it changes colors too I did the epacket from china in the link soo-----can be trusted only $1 cheaper than other sellers but I was patient (from china?? what was i thinking ) anyway do the search cause there are different types of 3d lamps
  18. Sweet!! The Hulk show is iconic. I was manufactured in '81 so HULK was one of the first hero shows I watched....
  19. Oh well now I feel bad, I don't want to give anyone false hope.... could be that they were graded and since some of them were MJI's I thought they all were Anyway I'll live and learn, would be nice if anyone out there had an idea, buuuut
  20. Oh and they were CGC'd they were graded...... forgot to add that
  21. Just to clarify, I've never seen a magazine size comic with the MJI in person or in a photo. Sandflea stated he had the run of MP #'s 16-25 with the MJI and no one has to my knowledge corroborated or contested that magazines with the MJI exist. MCS for instance lists hundreds of comics with MJI's on their site, but not a single Magazine size. You'd think after all these years one would have come through their doors. Marvel Preview is a saddle-stitch, is it not? Also, nice find with the ASM #134. To be honest I can't find the sold search on the bay, but I KNOW that I saw one of them either the Marvel Preview or the GSSM 4 with it, and I really want to say that I saw the ASM 129, 135, GSSM 4, AND the MP2 all in one listing.....with the MJI I want to say that a board member said they'd never seen either GSSM 4 or the MP with it and in fact said another board member said there wouldn't be one for some odd reason, probably because of what you were saying about the saddle stich.... But I know this sounds like a lot of hear say, but I can definitlly state for fact is was one of them because I said I'd get that next, sigh, but it might have been both TBH BUT anyway that's why I am looking for them I'll post if I find either...
  22. Does this count as a statue or should it be over in "plastic crack..." anyway I thought it was cool for $18. Lasts 13000 hours or 18 months sumpin like that... MR J
  23. I'm a little dissapointed that there may not be a Giant Size Spiderman 4 with the Mark Jeweler's insert... and it's possible that there is a Marvel Preview that does? But if "squarebound" books mean that there aren't MJI then why does MP have one? MP is a "squarebound" but it IS a magazine.....anyway, I'm looking to get a Punisher appearance run with MJI here is my latest addition, the 134. I already have the 129 and 135, but this is a new addition
  24. I don't think Metal PSI... reads minds... I didn't know which websites either and had no idea it was in previous pages
