  1. Gap aside, that cover date is still within the first 4 stamp cycles, so it may yet turn up. We just need one US unsold stray to find its way into the mix.....
  2. Well done @Albert Tatlock - Flippity moves into the stamped files leaving Peter Porkchops as the only DC title in the first four T&P stamp cycles without a single confirmed stamped issue (#61 and 62, the final issues, just sneak into the cover date window): If we find a stamped Flippity #47, well have the 'set' Where did you find it Albert - is it your copy or did you spot it online?
  3. Good luck to the finalists and commiserations to The King of Australia, @AJD, who just missed out: Andy - there's no shame in tying with the Number One seed! Well done mate
  4. I was watching this book on the bay but forgot to bid. Busy day, yesterday. It has quite an unusual repricing situation going on: It only went for a few Alans in the end. Probably a fun read too. I like how he describes the cover scenario so literally. Imagine if he described the distribution marks. "Huh? A Thorpe & Porter stamped copy with a load of ink smudging out the 9d price only for the book to then be restamped with an unbranded 10d stamp of a variety seldom seen!"
  5. I spotted the final round mid-grade gold contrivance straight away - the organiser's apparent 'up yours' response to those of us who have fed back that there have been too many mid-grade golds over the last two contests (16 golds this time, 14 grading between 4.0 and 6.0). I submitted all 4.5s as I couldn't see some of them going higher even with the bump. Five points that could so easily have been five bulls. The R3 moderate finger bend description mistakes cost me dear, so I finish this contest on 25 points and will likely now fall out of the top ten for all contests. Had I gone with all 5.0s this round, I just might have managed to stay in. Ah well. All good fun.
  6. I thought it was odd, yes. I only have one of the books in hand, so can't establish whether there are any other differences. I'm not the expert in this area, and don't know if this is common, but I don't recall ever seeing internal content differences mentioned anywhere else for books that I thought were printed the same for both markets. I'm not collecting or investigating these books any more Yoz, thanks. I just thought the Joke #28 variations were worth a mention, should anyone in the know ever happen by.... @sarvaj

  8. Here's my copy of Joke #28 that I mentioned earlier in this long forgotten thread: It's from Bell Features, dated 1946, and some copies can be found with a 6d British price sticker: I spotted a third interior variation this morning on eBay (my copy is the bottom one):
  9. Morning If your name is on the tagging list below, you're one of the 131 people who signed up for this contest. If you are no longer playing, or have already submitted your grades, then you can of course ignore this message. But if you missed that the final round had started, or forgot that it ends on Saturday, here's your reminder. 10. These things happen Mike, don't worry about it. Thanks for your honesty.
  11. I think you just need to be reasonable about it Mike. You don't need to do a poll, just present a mix of all eras with a spread of grades. It doesn't have to be a precise ratio, but if you have more than ten of one era among 20 books, and they're all mid grade, that means you're getting the balance wrong. What of my other points above?
  12. They've probably been pressed. I just want the competition to be fair, zzutak. If I'm told there are moderate finger bends, and I grade accordingly, I can't be anything other than disappointed to see them disappear when a final, much higher grade than expected is announced. If they don't break colour, finger bends can be hard to see from a scan. So if I'm told they are there, I have to account for them even though I can't see them - just as I do when internal tanning is noted. And as we know, CGC's definition of 'moderate' can vary wildly. I just wish they would take a bit more care on the book selection, presentation and accuracy of information. I see that 16 of the books are dated prior to 1959, even after a number of us made it clear in the previous contest that too many golds was putting people off. We shouldn't have to point that out, though. There are other eras, and they should be represented. Oh, I don't know. I try so hard to enjoy this thing but I find myself having negative / mildly exasperated thoughts every time I look at it.
  13. "Look at you pair of Alexanders, keming on here with your kerning learning. Here's a word for ya: kshuvitupya. Do the mathematics"
  14. Not at all. It's not possible to accurately grade some of the books in this contest. You may as well throw darts at a mid-range numbered dart board.
  15. @CGC Mike Mike, you advised in its raw state that Lois had 'Moderate finger bends on cover'. The slabbed note says 'Light creasing to cover'. That's a big difference and may explain why many of us graded it much lower than the CGC final grade. Additionally, light staining becomes very light staining. Two questions: Why are the before / after grading notes different? Surely you (CGC) select the books for the contest after they have been graded (to ascertain any restoration) in which case the notes you provide at the raw stage should be the same as those in the slabbed results post? Are any of the books pressed after we see them in their raw state? This might explain why moderate finger bends became light creasing.
  16. Surely you (CGC) would want your Registry terminology to reflect the definitions you yourself have set out as a company in your explanatory article on International Editions? It may have been used before, but the word 'foreigns' is now the title of a subset of International Editions. If you are in the process of updating the registry, now is the time to introduce consistency of terminology. Isn't it?
  17. Hello @jstam, I'm basing this question on the example in this recent post here: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/532291-foreign-sets/?do=findComment&comment=13089698 CGC classify 'International Editions' as having three components as follows: Unique Editions Foreign Editions Price Variants If the overarching title is 'International Editions', why do you create the set title as "Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 Foreign Editions"? Surely "Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 International Editions" would be more appropriate if you are going to include the three component types within the set group? Am I missing something?
  18. I don't know the answer to this Eric, but Danger Man springs to mind. I don't know without looking if the Dell FC issue of that was US original or a reprint of UK content.
  19. Finally! Courtesy of eBay..... I'll update that table soon, as there are many more 10d / shilling circle examples in and around the two month UKPV hiatus window
