  4. With the rest of us. No one here's ever seen one!
  5. https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/254826-comic-book-vending-machine--1967 "Once upon a time, you could get your favorite comic books from a machine! It worked like a snack machine, putting a row of comics on a corkscrew instead of Twinkies. There was one book in view at the top/front of each of the ten stacks and if you didn't see one you liked, you'd just come back later and there would be other ones showing. You'd put a dime in one side and two pennies in the other side of a thing like the coin slots on washers and dryers. Then you'd push it in and pull it back out, turning the corkscrew so that a single comic book would drop off and slide down to a little slot at the base of the unit. In July of 1966, I saw one for the first time and bought Daredevil #32 and Avengers #44. I still have them! Sorry to say the machines aren't around any more. They were re-tooled in 1969 when comics raised their prices from 12¢ to 15¢ and again in 1971 when the price went up to 20¢. After that, comic prices continued to skyrocket and changed faster than the machines could be retooled, so they were retired instead."
  6. Indeed. If that was in an Amazing Spidey I'd have paid silly billy money for it
  7. That's spot on. Over here though, they still sneak the word comic in, but it's all really just an excuse for the youngsters to dress up, eat, and not buy things with loosest connection to the things that started it all for the likes of us!
  8. Nice report I've done a few myself for the big conventions in the UK and it's surprising to see how similar they are to those in the US which I would have expected to have more comics. I can see how certain people would find them fun, but as an actual comic collector, I long since gave up on them.
  9. 85, I think? I like your way of thinking Doug. How would that be spotted though, in practice, whizzing around at a thousand miles an hour?
  10. @Comicdave Dave, does the paper area beneath the loose pieces feel thinner or different to the rest of the overall page?
  11. That is bizarre. A loose, apparently intentionally shaped piece of paper, sitting perfectly vertical, with perfectly centered numbering. Even the fact that the art on the other page is so visible beneath it is odd. I love it.
  12. Yes, that was a bit wordy wasn't it. I was serious though. Some people just don't understand that comics are delicate. They don't intuitively understand the importance of condition. Indeed, some dealers I know don't understand (care?) about condition, manhandling comics that you hand them to purchase. We are attuned to it. How to handle and treat a comic. What it means to bend the spine of a comic that has survived unbent for 60 years. Others aren't. It looks like some of us do, and some of us don't. Such a rule would protect buyers from sellers who can't pack properly. @Dr. Balls Are you planning to wrap this up?
  13. That looks like another Streamline reprint. I'll have a look about later, see if I can find it. There are so many pre-1960s UK reprints out there that aren't on the GCD. If I could go back in time, I'd research them as I have some of the post 1960s UK books. I fear it would be a largely impossible task now. Love the photo. I think I recognise that pavement...
  14. Here's the Casper - it's a Streamline reprint that I was going to bid on at one point. I saved a picture:

  16. Some of the pile on posts that prompted me to post this morning appear to have been removed. There's one, at least, that I can recall. That makes it look like I'm over reacting and siding with the guy who couldn't pack, and who took it badly when it was politely pointed out to him. I'm not. My advice was that people should own their mistakes. Separate to that, I said I didn't like pile ons. That comment took into account the nature of the removed post(s) and where the dialogue was heading.
  17. It's no wonder he's in disguise. Who'd want to be seen watching Galactus come. Imagine the mess.
  18. Hope the owner had more than two comics
  19. I know what you mean. They're a bit like old and new Doctor Who's. They can be completely different, and one might be technically superior to the other, but you can still love both of them.
  20. Whoever said advertising works was lying Archer. The eyes of the entire forum are on that thread and yet we barely picked up 2 additional participants...
