  1. If you have to make a bunch of excuses like maybe he was rushing maybe it was a joke maybe he had a broken finger maybe aliens etc yeah that's bad art. The style is definitely in line with the times, which is why it's generally accepted that most modern comics suck really bad. He clearly does not have talent, IMO. I cant see anyone ever looking back with fondness at this stuff, just like no one looks back with fondness at Frank Robbins. Kav, you really think this guy doesn't have any talent? I disagree. It may not be to your - or my - taste, but I would certainly not say the guy has no talent. I don't like Byrne's art, violently, but I accept he has talent. It's just not to my taste. I think it is possible to identify a lack of talent in any field in life, that would meet with more or less common consensus. But I feel this guy is getting a load of stick for one panel, when his overall body of work unquestionably indicates a talent for comic book art. If he was your son, and came home from school with the above art portfolio, are you really saying you would advise him he's talentless and should focus his energies elsewhere? So this is my further contribution - sticking up for someone who I feel you are unfairly traducing.
  2. Looking at the GRR for ASM # 1 there's a clear difference between the splash pages: GRR ASM#1: Real ASM#1: So as long as the grader is aware of that, they could grade accordingly, if you sent that page in (it's a nice iconic page, so I could see why someone would do it if there cover was missing / tatty). Not sure about the other pages though - I sold my GRR ages ago. Here's the link to the pence copy scenario I mentioned: I sent it to Brittany and she said she'd pass it on to the graders. So hopefully they build up a database of these things, what to look for etc
  3. Ta. Seen this? https://www.cgccomics.com/comic-grading/labels/ Not sure this fits with your advice on the phone to split and send in the page yourself: One other thing that's confusing about grading bits of comics, look at this AF15 (pence copy, yay!): Blue label, centrefold missing. Now look at this from the earlier Label Descriptions link: If the AF15 is missing the centrefold, how is it not a 'NG' if the definition of a NG is 'missing the entire cover, or one half or more of the interior pages'? It's not the end of the world, but I see a lot of inconsistency in this area. A blue label AF15 carries a financial premium, so if this is a mistake, it's a potentially costly one (to any eventual buyer). If that same AF15 had a dot of colour touch it would have a big screaming purple label. Missing the centrefold and a bit of a page? Blue label. It's not a perfect world though, is it.
  4. The Saga of the Human Torch 4 issue mini-series fit's the bill: Every #3 I can see online is a Spidey head UPC, and every 1, 2 and 4 are newsstand UPC's with 'DE' price boxes
  5. I'm researching Australian price variants and spotted the Moon Knight, Alpha Flight and Nam copies that way. If I spot anymore, I'll let you know.
  6. I was just trying to get one of the experts to answer the question, as I recall. Turns out there wasn't one. Reading the thread, at least So I pull a page out of a Golden Record Reprint and...... No different to a page, surely? I posted an example of a possible pence ASM 1 recently with the price and date removed. It was graded as a US copy. Costly mistakes are just waiting to happen. It's a threat to world stability. I'm in England. It will cost me a bomb to ring them and I'm tight. And antisocial. Also, they have online question areas set up for tight antisocial people like me. I used it, three times, and in each case they deleted it. The rotters. Very antisocial. Joking aside, it's hard to get answers to simple questions sometimes. And there are examples where what has been said on the phone, is not what happens in practice. Anyway, it's my Birthday, according to the little cake under my avatar. I've just eaten enough Italian to sink a battleship and I need a mighty poop urgently. That's not relevant to grading bits and pieces of comics but it's the only way I can subtly mention that it's my birthday and point out that not one of you miserable lot noticed and sent me floods of good wishes. Very antisocial.
  7. Certain issues of The 'Nam seem to fit the profile - I can't find a picture UPC copy of #53 for example and it has the newsstand barcode / DE price box scenario: https://www.comics.org/series/3197/covers/?page=2
  8. Thanks. He got on my nerves a bit, but I'll give it a look Yes, they were quite unfazed by it all if that's the right word. Dealing only in online debates can lead you to form skewed opinions I think, on reflection. I've been guilty of that. Seeing actual people talking and responding puts a very different spin on it and I'm glad they did this. Good to see their intent is full elimination too. And Brittany as I've said before is a real asset to CGC - I like how she tackles / wants to tackle everything head on, and doesn't shy away from dealing with things. I didn't mean for my jokey post earlier to be patronising, if that's how it came across. With a few more positive, proactive people like her in companies, the world would be a better place.
  9. It's the first live video I've seen Mark. I'm surprised by the lack of commentary here this morning I have to say. I would've thought that there would be a few thoughts at least on what was said. Perhaps it's being discussed elsewhere. There seemed to be oceans of comments on the Youtube page while it was live, not that I could work out what was going on. Do you ever get the feeling that everyone is somewhere else? The boards feel like a small local gathering across two tables in McDonalds, while ten thousand people are partying hard down the road in a warehouse
  10. I like the date stamp on the cover. Nice book, but difficult to see it going higher than the 2.0 that the cover initially suggests with that ink damage and spine hole on the back
  11. That's a great, bright cover. I bet it looks even better in hand. 7.5 is probably about right depending on how the writing / tanning goes down. I've seen worse looking 8.5's though I have to say. I'd be interested to see how this one fairs, if you're planning on sending it in. Good luck
  12. If it is him, he's certainly led everyone on a wild goose chase with this one panel hasn't he. I don't mind the art at all. It's not as offensively lazy as Byrne art for example, which lays claim to be among the best. Or as anatomically unrealistic as some other praised artists that I could mention. The floor is vinyl. The only real oddity is the door. Maybe it was a joke, a bit of playing around? Maybe his mate owns a flat like it, and its an in joke. Good for him if so, it's got everyone talking. Things changing shape from panel to panel is hardly new is it. The mirror is indeed smaller, and missing the edging in the close up panels that is present in the distant. But we don't know the pressure the artist was under to deliver it. Maybe he was rushing. I've Google'd him and he clearly has talent. A young talented artist who may one day develop a more distinctive style that sets him apart. It doesn't have the old world charm to us older readers, but it may be looked back on with fondness in 20 years time by today's young reader. There has always been workman like art in comics. This guy's work is nowhere near as bad as you lot are making out. The style is in line with the times, for good or worse. Let's hope he never gets to see this.
  13. Nonsense. Your less trumps my more 8 days a week Paul
  14. A single panel from a page would look ridiculous inside a CGC slab! The back of it may be something like half a panel or half an advert. It would have no aesthetic appeal. At least a page would encompass the slab Blimey, where did you dig that post up from! Less than a page size has been graded before - some examples in this old thread I dug up, having been reminded of it by your post. I don't think I ever saw an answer to the question as it goes...
  15. Instructing! Tell them to go and fly a kite Master Logan. Preferably one of those Spider-Man ones in the adverts in the eighties
  16. Fair play, they just tackled Newton Rings quite openly. I think they're coming across quite well myself. Good for them
  17. I wish them two blokes would shut up while I'm trying to watch Brittany
