  1. Fret not liz. Arch and Scott are on it
  2. Not to worry. Thanks for coming back to me on it
  3. 1 minus seems to be my average score in the grading competition! Let's see em spreads
  4. I don't suppose you took a scan of the indicia page did you @ Pontoon ? Or can recall whether it had a Thorpe & Porter or L Miller distribution blurb?
  5. How about: C - cameo R - reference A - appearance P - page only
  6. Actually I never liked cameo either come to think of it. I'll have a P instead in future.
  7. I love all this stuff. As a Spidey completist I made up an appearance key for my records. Will need to check but think it was: F - full appearance C - cameo S/F - single frame R - reference (e.g. kid in a spidey shirt) The key to success is a key you can remember
  8. Maybe. If there is someone who knows I'd like to think this is the board to draw them out. Maybe one day the simple answer will turn up. Meanwhile, know anyone with a pence copy of RHK 17 Sqeggs?
  9. Indeed. If you read my thread on the subject we try to establish why the differences exist, and the implications. Are they all first printings? If one were found not to be, how would that affect the price? I've not been able to get much traction on the subject though - people seem oddly disinterested. Maybe as the books with the variations continue to rise, someone will want an explanation. So spread the word - I'm convinced that someone out there has the answer!
  10. Ha! Dig them out. We've got to see them. And now you say it, a tyre pressure gauge practically is a sonic screwdriver!
  11. That's quite a price: I think the scarcity of the grade is the key here - look at the previous sales / grades / dates on Heritage: And on eBay currently: So an 8.5 appears to be uncommonly rare and the price, therefore, does not surprise me. I'm looking for a RHK #17 pence printed edition so I can see if it is distributed by L Miller or Thorpe and Porter: And given that this book now command $10K dollars, I'd also love to know what the significance of the two different 10c price fonts are: All in all, an impressive book on so many levels!
  12. I found this today while rooting through old files: Did anyone else go? 1983.... I think this may have been the first Dr Who convention. I have some photos somewhere. One of me in the Tardis and one of Jon Pertwee arriving. He was an imposing chap. One enduring memory was the memorabilia tent. Oceans of Who stuff and I wanted to buy all of it of course. Happy days. You forget so much don't you. I've read every Target book at least twice - had the whole lot of them. I had a full set of DW Weekly / Monthly, videos, all the annuals. It was a big thing for me as a kid and teenager. I've seen every episode since Pertwee and really got into it with the Davison era. I remember putting on a play at school with my best mate which was a Dr Who / Michael Jackson fusion piece. Don't ask. I played the Doc of course, and spouted many of his best lines much to the bemusement of the crowd. Inverse ratio between the size of the brain and the mouth, jellybabies, you get the general idea. How we wove Thriller into it (remember when Michael Jackson's hair caught fire?) I'll never know, but I got my first girlfriend as a result so 'Who' cares. I also found this in the garage whilst sorting comics: I made it myself as a teenager over many long weeks one summer holiday. Wooden frame, layered cardboard covering and a blue pen colour wash. It's surprisingly accurate and has lasted well for a 30 plus year old creation. Does anyone remember 'Fan Aid' ? Not exactly up to Geldof's standards but I contributed a piece of art: And here's my favourite piece from the DWB days (I put some of it in the 'Show us your personal artwork' thread if you're interested): DWB was probably what got me hooked on Dr Who from a serious perspective. Back in the day, it wasn't just a show. It was life or death. I'll always be grateful for that day in 83 when I picked this up from Forbidden Planet for 45p: Here's a few of my letters - they give you a flavour of how seriously I took it (Don't blame Peter! I didn't like it when Colin Baker's first words were "Change my dear. And not a moment too soon": Anyway, I'm still a fan now to this day and still take it a little more seriously than I should. As long as the next Doctor isn't a woman I'll be watching for another 30 years. Oh, wait. What? They haven't? Have they?
  13. I'm here @tomo, thanks for the call! Some other anagrams of your fearsome three: Cosmic Boy - I Look Good in Purple Lightning Lad - Landing Light (switch it on, I can't see) Saturn Girl - Girl's a Runt (or Raring Lust!) I doubt there's an anagram of your own name tomo but that's a moot point If you like anagrams try and guess the board members in the first post here. The answers are in a later post, so no cheating: I like this journal
