  1. I wish Vince Colletta was here to erase those “Kirby” hands. I’m not paying the 25% BP If I have to take that picture frame.
  2. The guy is uncanny. A little unnerving if I can be honest. nah just kidding. Glen’s been doing his thing for awhile and become quite successful doing it.
  3. Thank you! I was so broke that at work there was a part of me that hoped I would lose😳 When I saw that I won I was over the moon. It’s a very impressive cover design. Such an imagination. For the record Glen is a cool guy. Los Bros? Well I have nothing personal against them. But it didn’t suck to beat them out for this cover. 😇
  4. I second that. I promise to disclose if I have a personal interest in anything that is discussed. I am a collector not a dealer. But I’ve bought and sold comic art for 24 years now. I will always give my best advice to try and help out. It’s in all of our best interest to participate in a healthy hobby.
  5. Yes my brother! For all newbies this is how you should approach collecting. There are many collectors here that will share real honest opinions on FMV it’s not a total mine field. However be realistic. Buying from anyone, their motivation is to make as much as they can. At the end of the day you the individual are responsible for what you buy or sell and for how much. Have fun and buy what you love , that’s the best type of investment.
  6. Terrific artists and good reasoning. I wasn’t going to be the first to mention our pal Sal so thanks for that. All joking aside I think Sal is wonderful and Ive always enjoyed his work.
  7. September 1, 2003....the auction was ending at 4:11 PDT. All the usual suspects were out there waiting to snipe. A young man with a family, that is a wife and 2 young kids, had a decision to make. He was due at wok at 4 pm. Money was tight. That young man drew a breath and confirmed a bid that made him the high bidder. He left the computer and went off to work. Arriving home later that night about 1 a m he went to the computer. He had won a Jack Kirby Captain America Cover. Jack Kirby Captain America He viewed the list of bidders. There was Glenbru, ( Glen Brunswick ) a giant on eBay very hard to beat. But just below the winning bid Val@steve (Donnelys) Val@Steve Los Bros Coolines The brothers Grim The winning bid $3,709 Hey guys, after all these years the little David that defeated Goliath wants you to know you lost this cover....by $92. 1) I don’t have the end of auction screen shot to share with you. 2) Recently ran into Glen Brunswick. Mentioned I used to battle him on eBay back in the days of the Wild Wild West. He had a great splash page of Cap at $45,000. I told him it would look great with my Cap Cover. ”Wait a minute, I remember you.” ” Grapeape!” “Captain America 198 cover!” I smiled and offered my hand. We shook and I turned and walked away. He remembered from 17 years ago. I never mentioned what cover I owned. He put the info I gave him together. •we battled on ebay • I owned a cap cover My wife said “that’s spooky.” “He figured that out.” No my love, I told Mrs. Grapeape...not spooky. I like to think of it more as..... r e s p e c t
  8. That’s great that you could be there. I think his last published work before retirement was on the Spider-Man strip. What an absolute treasure he is!
  9. “You know Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don’t help.....”
  10. Calvin and Hobbes are recession proof. Look up needle and a haystack on google search, you’ll see the tiger and the kid.
  11. I have a great Kirby drawing of the Surfer flying above the earth. I should be satisfied right? Well I wouldn’t mind a few more since I love the Surfer. Something like these would be nice.
  12. Sotheby’s includes original art pages with prices along with some of the Kirby recreations. It is widely assumed that Kirby had assistants work on the recreations. This is for history and record keeping. Not looking to rehash Kirby + assistants. Just enjoy a bit of our history.
  13. Christie’s Auctions 10-29-94 with prices realized.
  14. A great page with Johns best SS inker. One of my favorite issues from that classic run. What a way to start 2020.
  15. Jeter kicked a puppy? No wonder that one sports writer left him completely off the Hall of Fame Ballot. Can’t chime in until I know what the snarky remarks were. I think maybe the artist “asked” for it by calling you high maintenance. Many who solicit a service are high maintenance to some degree. It comes with the territory.
  16. I wouldn’t hide this in a portfolio. They are rare to see. It’s an opportunity for fans. For the money it’s going to take I would pay even more chedda for Calvin and Hobbes on the strip. For me I need both.
  17. Voodoo, You do that voodoo that you do so well Lets start with a joke to lighten things up... Two brothers walk in to a comic con one brother says to another, “ knock knock” who’s there? “Cash and trade.” Cash and trade who? “SOLD” Huh? Romaineman makes some good points but I can also see Voodoo’s point. I can see where Romaineman is simply encouraging those who call out flipping to inspect his art site for examples. Dealers gonna deal Mr. Mike Voodoo. Now the flip side is that Voodoo thinks Romaineman might be soliciting lettuce outside the marketplace. I love both you guys. Every time you get into it I spray Mountain Dew on the keyboard. Expect a bill soon. Lets stay friends, yours, Grapplemonkey
