I only own one Camp book and it is one of three keepers in the chance of a sell off. The ped/story is one of the most compelling to me regardless of the hobby.

Agreed. I think it is fine to buy comics for the art, the stories I side, or the story of the original owner. In this case... It's a heck of a story

  2. This thread is just so much great!

My brother and I found large discarded Styrofoam barrels and lugged them back home over a few trip on foot and proceeded to build ourselves a raft for a small pond behind our house.  Tom Sawyer style!  We were not allowed to swim in the pond because of the large amount of snapping turtles in it but figured "Dad never said we couldn't build our own raft and take that out on the pond."  We got in the middle and quickly learned we were not the raft builders we had imagined ourselves to be.  Ropes got wet and stretched and raft slowly fell apart.  We sat on the raft, now afraid of the turtles, until that was no longer an option and then swam like jaws was chasing us.  Told our dad and he laughed so hard at us we didn't even get punished.

This thread is just awesome.  Most fun I have had today.

I went through the recent Overstreet and was surprised at the number of dealers with full page ads whose websites didn't work or were years out of date. Seems like a waste of money to place an ad only to set up a bad online experience.  I was also surprised how everyone was buying and "paying the most" but many did not list books they were selling. I also noticed  many dealers have switched to just selling on eBay, and I understand the reasons why but personally find it more fun and gratifying to get a book through the dealer site/or chat with them on the phone than win an auction.

I did have good experiences with Socal Comics , Mark Payette, Terry's Comics and World Wide comics .

agreed, just feels different to get a comic from a real person.  I have had similar experiences with quite a few dealers who their websites don't work at all, or say they were updated years ago.  Though expensive, the site at bunkybrothers.com is always working, (one of them is on the boards often) and bedrockcity.com and metropolis.com  always work too.  Not plugging those particular business, but as websites, they are well designed and functional.

  4. Really nice books.  I don't know the answer to your question but I would really like to.  I have married some covers to interiors, (just by placing the interior in the cover like a folder)  and have wondered if it would be worth it to have a professional attach them with vintage staples.  I don't even know if that is just a note on a blue label, conserved, or restored.  Honestly it doesn't seem all that reliable as I see restored books with only tear seals noted but I was pretty sure that was considered conserved.

Anyway can't wait to hear what some more knowledgeable collectors than me have to say.(thumbsu

  5. This would need to be done by a bigger collector than myself, but it would be really cool to see a group shot that would be date specific.  Like what all books would have been on the news stand in July 1943, or February 1946?  I just think it would be cool to see what some of the collectors with the bigger collections could cobble together.

Kind of depends on what you paid, but both the cover and the interior are neat, in any event.

Many years ago on eBay I bought a reader copy of a Barks Duck book.  When it arrived, the cover was detached and it had the interior of a different (non-Barks) Duck book.  When I told the seller that I wanted to send it back, he said something like, "If what was inside mattered so much, why didn't you ask me about it!" :)

yea I have tried to approach it of if I would have paid that dollar amount for a coverless 48 and a cover for 49.  I would have.  Now I just have to eventually figure out how to get them apart if more appropriate parts come around.

  7. Got a strange one on eBay thought I was buying a slightly incomplete book, turns out I got two incomplete books. Adventure Comics 49, but the innards were Adventure 48,minus two centerfolds. Did I end up ahead or behind? Also goes without saying if you have some pieces to help me complete this I am interested

  8. Interesting book. I got it off eBay so I knew it Had the potential of being dicey. Seller stated that it was incomplete but didn’t care to count pages so I think that might have scared off some others. Also no pics of interior. I get it and it looks as expected in the bag. Open it up and something is not right. Interior is Adventure 48 ( first appearance of Hour Man) . It is missing two centerfolds and has the wrong, but more desirable, interior. I don’t know if I came out ahead or behind or right in the middle ???. I will take it for sure. Also just to be clear the seller was very nice.

  9. I am now looking for a cover for Detective 64 and a coverless World's Finest 2.  I am always willing to pay or trade.  I do need a cover for Pep Comics 14.  I saw one that had some flaws sold on HA recently for about 150.  Interesting that the one that is just a cover and 1 wrap on Mycomicshop is priced at over 500.  Just wow.
