  1. thank you for info it was quite helpful I had it graded solely on appearance as a 7.0 to 7.5....but had no clue what kind of effect the "printing/bindery defect." would on it....so I noted it could be as Low as a 4.0.... I'm glad to know exactly what the name of the defect is and that it doesnt effect the grade as much as I potentially speculated
  2. Thanks it does... I had it graded between 4.0 and 5.0 and that seems to be the universal consensus so far... I just wasnt sure about the 2 stains/marks on the cover...I didnt exactly know how much they could effect the grade
  3. My father passed away 2 monday's ago... I wanted to sell a few of my keys to help with funeral costs. but I am probably the least experienced/knowledgeable collector there is when it comes to selling comics as I inherited my collection and have never really bought comics before. I knew dealers dont pay full value for comics, so I made a thread on here 2 weeks ago asking whats the best way to find collectors who are buying for their personal collections because I thought those were they type of people I needed to find to sell me Keys for the right value. I've since learned by the responses, what I'm looking for is almost impossible. I am not going to sell my collection, I only want to sell a few Keys to help pay for funeral costs, but I've learned even that is going to be difficult because my entire collection is raw, It seems to be the universal consensus here, that If I want to get fair value for even a few of My KEYS they need to be sent off to be slabbed which pretty much doesnt help me for what I need. So the end game is...Now I'm just learning and asking questions. I dont think I'm going to be able to sell anything to help with the funeral because it wont be fast enough. I know I'm not selling My collection.now or anytime in the future(hopefully I have them when I die an old man) So now I think I'm going to get past the funeral, and for the next few years sent out maybe 40 of 50 of my biggest Keys to CGC a few at a time. first I now know the importance of comics being slabbed, I'd to get some of my Keys Slabbed now just for my own personal curiosity, I have my comics graded and have a very good idea what they are worth, but as posters has pointed out, Once I get them slabbed I will actual have a concrete value of the books. and second I think it would be a good idea to get some of my main Keys slabbed because If I ever run into another situation like this again where I need to sell a few Keys for emergency money....I'll be set to sell a few keys fast and for the most possible value. all in all I've learned a ton in the past 2 weeks on this forum....I know my collection inside and out, but thats about all I know, I just have no knowledge of how the comic book selling and buying industry works because I've never had to do it...
  4. yes but I'd have to sell my entire collection, so I dont consider that an option.... I actually liked everything the MD said and if I ever consider selling my collection I'll certainly consider them...
  5. I have a few book that also writing indentations that appear to be deep.... it looks someone actually were grading the comic, and after putting the book in a bag and backer , I think they put a blank sticker on the front on the Bag and then wrote the grade with comic under neath ....because on a couple issues I have I can actual see in writing indentations ..... "VF- $26.00" in indentations on the cover... It is complete indentations ...no ink or anything have even remotely bleed through... do you have any idea what kind of effect this would have on the grade on a comic... thanks
  6. thanks for the video... I have a few book that have the exact amateur restoration that The SECOND book in his video has, do you know how much it effect the value, he didnt say in the video? when I went through my grandfather collection when I inherited it, He had doubles and triples sets of the big 7...and on Daredevil and Avengers, in 1 of double sets, there was probably 10 issues in each set from 10 to 100 that had this kind of amateur restoration, I never knew how to grade them or the value...luckily I had better copies to go in my personal sets, but I still have them in my Dups... does this type of Amateur Restoration take more than 50% of the value away? thanks
  7. Hey, Hoping to get some advice on my X-Men 12, I dont know how to grade because the book is kinda off center, I'm sure theres a name for it but its not folded perfectly straight....other than that its ok. thanks PS Pictures didnt come out good again, I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to get good lighting, please do the best you can with what you can see...
  8. how much does the small mark on the right side thats likes its in crayon effect the grade? is that like a full point or more? thanks for the grade
  9. Hey guys, I tried taking pictures outside today, They are a little better...I just figured a way out to scan some pics, so I'm working on that next but just hoping you could take a look at my ASM 50. half down on the right side of the cover theres a mark, Its not pen or pencil, I think it might be crayon....Theres also 2 small marks by the numbering but I cant tell what it is... thanks
  10. The tanning isnt as bad as it looks in the picture, The Light I'm using had a really Yellowish glow to it, I'm going to buy some kind of spot light tomorrow, because I'm not having any luck with any of the lights I got at my house, the pics keep coming out to dark thank you for the grade though
  11. Just hoping you guys could helping me out with my FF 45..... I did set up better Lighting for these pictures, But still not happy, Please let me know if you still think the pictures are too dark thanks
  12. how much does the color of Pages effect the grade? hypothetically speak if you had a comic that was in every way a 8.0....but the interior pages were tanning or Off-White?
  13. thank you this was incredibly helpful but kinda soul crushing... It will cost WAY too much to get the Bulk of my KEYS graded... I've probably got at least 50 or 60 Books that would need the "express rate" and then Hundreds that would "Standard" rates... it does say how much the rates are if the Comib is over 3,000 in value??? do you know simply put, just out of my range I'd have to sell 1 or 2 of my Major Keys get 5000 to 10,000 dollars and then spend the next few years spending them off. CGC has stumbled on to a GOLDMINE!
  14. wow didnt even consider there are people out there that only collect "Slabbed" comics, But I guess it makes a lot sense... but I do have a question now... How many long boxes would it take to hold a complete set? like for example, I dont have any CGC/Slabbed books, but I can fit 1 to 263 of my amazing Spiderman set into 1 long box.... If someone was had or was putting together a set of Amazing Spider-Man, how many Slabbed/CGC graded comics fit into 1 long box? does anyone out there have like a complete collection of Amazing Spiderman with only Slabbed/CGC issues....If so how many long boxes does it take to hold the collection?
  15. could someone here explain to me exactly how much it will cost to send Silver Age comics to CGC to have them graded? someone just told me it would cost 1000.00 to have 3 comics graded, but most of what I've read says to 20 to 60 dollars per comic... to be specific, If I wanted to send Tales Of Suspense #52, Tales To Astonish #27 and Daredevil #1 to CGC to have them "slabbed" and Graded....what are the costs I'm looking at? PS, I'm new to the boards and have zero experience selling.... thank you so much for any replies.
  16. True but I wouldnt even know how to list it to try and sell it.... I dont know how to grade restored books and I dont know how much Restoration takes away from the value... so If I wanted to try to sell it, I wouldnt even know where to start to advertise it? do I claim its a 2.0 to 3.0 restored? but then what kind of starting price do I put on it, I certainly cant ask what Overstreet lists for a regular 2.0 or 3.0? I need to know how much the restoration takes away from the value, If Oversteet lists a 3.0 as 2400.00....do I take 50% off My restored copy? I get that the book's value is whatever someone will pay for it, But I just need some kind of starting point, I need some kind rough grade/value of the book to at least know where to start if I tried to sell it. thanks for the reply though...
  17. this was first first attempt at taken pics and putting them on a site...obviously I didnt do well. I'm taking new pics tonight of a few more issue where I've set up much better lighting, I've had multiple people complain about the lighting(which I agree is not good) I'll takes some pics of the inside of this book too while I'm at it, I do think theres is some tanning... Thank you for the grade though!
  18. If a comic is a 2.0 or 3.0....does minor or moderate amount of tape effect the grade(like a piece or 2 of tape)... I've read conflicting Grading standards where some say when you reach 2 or 3.0 tape is acceptable without effecting the grade?
