  1. Ok. I see the tell-tale pinch marks of amateur restoration. I wonder why that didn't get a purple label? So many QC issues these days...
  2. Any number of books with a slight overhang that's gone slightly brittle and flakes off.... is it trimmed? NO!! But I see everyone's point. CGC will make their own decision. Here's an interesting one: The top edge of only the cover wrap was hand-cut (wavy). Interior sheets were cut at once/together. CGC gave it a purple label.
  3. No, but it may draw more attention to the characters. Continuity will continue in it's current iteration from the books still being sold by DC. Plus, indy publishers would have to begin their own continuity because they'd only have free-copyright to the first appearance books. All the stuff that developed along the way would still be under DC's protection (Luthor is what, ten years out? A Superman story wouldn't even be able to use him initially). It'll be the other weird stuff that I never thought of for these characters that intrigues me. It will be BOTH good and bad. I wish they were public domain right now. The current world stage is similar to that which spawned these guys.
  4. Have they at least offered to buy it at the price you paid (with sufficient proof of purchase - I'm sure)?
  5. I think I understand what is missing.... In the Patent Drawing, element 14 is the formed tray that holds the comic (in direct contact with the comic). In this image, you don't see the single sheet of matching material that is sealed over the tray (no thermoforming/molding - just a perfectly flat optically clear sheet). That sealed INNER WELL suspends the comic inside the outer shell. So, if when you opened the outside case, you were then able to leaf through the comic book, then something is wrong with that case. CGC either missed sealing the inner well together, or Zaneglor got to it and thought he could dupe you for far less than he usually works for (because he can just sell an ASM252 for far more).
  6. I don't own a near complete Superman #1, but if I did I don't believe I'd want to Frankenstein it into something it is not. I would just find some nice high resolution images of the coupon (or other torn bits) and have them printed to put behind the backer board (you never know how new paper might react with the old pulp - don't slip printer paper between the original sheets). Buy a Masterpiece Edition of #1 if presentation matters that much.
  7. Is that a large part of why you argue in favor of unlimited copyright protection? And if it is, I would say that DC already shot the canon for Superman and Batman MANY years ago ("shot the canon" ).
  8. DANG. Nice score and welcome to the Boards. Everyone here always loves to see pictures...
  9. It looks like it's French, and not just Canadian French. See that box on the top left with the differing country prices...
  10. I'm a fan of Kurtzman/ Wood's Superduperman. Was that printed in MAD?* *looks it up and in two seconds sees it was Mad #4, ah the beauty of the internet
  11. If anyone was going to have a chat with him, I'd hope that it'd be you.
  12. I think the Balls Doctor nailed it. There's not going to be an easy marker/paint/ink that will adhere to that portfolio surface. Make or use existing stickers. Fun concept though.
  13. I didn't play that one because I watched Shameless. Can't put that actor into any other role.
  14. I like SW, but have no idea what this first appearance is. Please, let me in on the secret.
  15. except that one without the numbering. just a big circle 10d Probably an after-market sale?
  16. I think you have it correct. I am wrong. I do not see Baker listed as Art Director (sorry). I see Art Director credit beginning with issue four. I could have sworn... The UK copy was printed months (US is January & UK is August) later and yet features the Baker opening splash. The gruesome Kubert must have been pulped in favor of the "tame" Baker. I'd say you have a rare first printing.
