Marvel Stamps the bane of Mid 70's Bronze collectors -
^ totally disagree about the art. My personal favorite Miller pencils are his first 10 issues of DD. All in eye of beholder!

The Grade is in...PGM Web of Spiderman #1
MAY1979 replied to TegrityComics's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
If funds permitted I too would purchase 2-3 copies of some books thinking they would be an investment. It took 35 or so years but I guess I guess I was correct depending on book and condition. I also purchased 2 copies of Web 1 back in Jan 1985, submitted one last year, no pressing, and received a 9.8. Based on the census population many purchased multiple copies -

Who has the worst comics seller's website?
MAY1979 replied to DavidTheDavid's topic in Comics General
I've been in IT 25 years and I can definitively say the answer to that is NO. But they all think they do. Original response contained Hyperbole and from what I see now on this thread is there are folks from multiple countries who take things way way too personally. - been in IT 30 total years, last 25 with same firm. The first 5 never dealt with a developer. - from a pure tech knowledge perspective most Developers (say 75%) at my firm have a good handle on things. - very few Developers at my firm have an understanding of an intuitive user experience. - in my firm slightly more than 90% of commits are bug fixes or regression fixes NOT code for new functionality or desired changes. Industry standard I believe is lower percentage. - almost every developer I deal with is more interested in pointing fingers than taking responsibility. - quite a number of our developers fill in their day not by developing but by "playing politics", making as many other folks look bad to make themselves look good. So yes of course some developers do know what they are doing, but I have found those to be outliers and usually the ones who leave my firm after 18-24 months. Perhaps my firms culture is part of the problem but the bottom line is my experience is my experience. BTW tech budget alone per quarter in my firm is multi-billion we are not some small outfit. -
WHO'S GOING TO THE SAN FRANCISCO COMIC ART SHOW, SUNDAY, MARCH 5?
MAY1979 replied to glenbru's topic in Original Comic Art
Bro you missed perfect opportunity for thread title of "Are you going to San Francisco?" -
if attendence was higher they would need larger venue.
-
Some Bros can sell or trade art they dont have then makes you go through huge hassle to get your money or art back.
-
No way to definitively say, but in this case any difference is likley negligible. Still IMHO be honest and mention it.

What's better: grade or page quality?
MAY1979 replied to thewarning's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
At least for me there is no definitive answer as many variables for each book factor it. As a general rule if 1980 or earlier and 9.8 with ow/w pages I've no issues. In my opinion the older the book the more White Pages are a premium to be factored in but not a baseline. -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

Do you feel it was a registry collector with somewhat deep pockets? Agreed have seen same scenario repeat itself many times with various comics over the years. -

YouTuber kicked out of 2 Comic Shops, Leaves Negative Reviews

Varies depending on State as well as number of other factors. https://recordinglaw.com/united-states-recording-laws/ In states like PA for example what the deee-bagggg youtuber did is criminal. Pennsylvania Pennsylvania recording law stipulates that it is a two-party consent state. In Pennsylvania, it is a criminal offense to use any device to record communications, whether they’re wire, oral or electronic, without the consent of everyone taking part in the conversation. This means that in Pennsylvania you are not legally allowed to record a conversation you are taking part in unless all parties are in agreement. 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. Ann. § 5704 (West 2012). -
From your post I'm not understanding the situation. Your case needs to be detailed in a more clear fashion. Perhaps mention what book it is and use bullet points to state a more precise and succinct case.

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
MAY1979 replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
$650 which is only $160 less than #1 in same condition. Not a 1st appearance and population of 29. Am i missing something? Or just a Great 70s Kirby cover getting some deserved love? Congrats To NewWorldOrdr https://www.ebay.com/itm/115698206950?hash=item1af02688e6:g:HK4AAOSwquhj4Z2W P.S. My 1998 $11.50 purchase from the old Showcase NE. Self submitted last Oct. Back when I picked it up I thought #8 was first Union Jack. That night looking Overstreet I saw it was #7. Next day at the Con picked that up from them as well. It received a 9.8 when I submitted it last year. To think how great the Invaders Run could have been if most of the issues featured even B artists.... Regarding the Damage to the IM 80 - Unbelievably sad. You could beat on the slab with claw hammer and it might receive less damage. -

Spine stress marks, spine crreases, ticks ........
MAY1979 replied to Mokiguy's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I value a nice spine very highly. Since I was in my teens I sought out as close to perfect spines that I could fine. It's paid off somewhat well however tiny color rubs if on back cover never bothered be. IMHO CGC is way way too tolerant on spine damage and way to sensitive about the most minor of unobtrusive color rubs. Anyhow I still will not purchase any 9.8 slab with spine ticks or stress lines. Buy the book not the label. BTW with trading cards, labels are called flips, I kind of like that term
