  1. Appreciate the info on the above. I was just the right age to 'get' the TMNT when they 1st appeared. I purchased #1 third print from my LCS and even sent away for the t-shirt iron on image, which was awesome, and like many others, I was totally hooked, having purchased every subsequent issue through #20, and also picking up a #1 first print. The Turtles were fun, entertaining and spoke to a certain audience at the time. Once they were published at Archie and the Saturday morning cartoon appeared on TV, I lost interest. But I was completely aware of the cultural phenomena it became: pjs, puzzles, games, books, more cartoons, movies, and...wait a sec, sounds familiar. Oh, that's right, its the same bit of nostalgia I felt for Scooby Doo, who had been on TV for 15 years already, and who also had numerous books, puzzles, pj's etc published. If you want to know which I'd rather have today, well, let me put it to you this way: I sold my TMNT #1 first print, and I am actively seeking a high grade Scooby Doo #1 (and have been for several years).
  2. Hi, all: I'm posting the following note on behalf of Spencer Beck/The Artist's Choice Well, having suffered through the convention season, family health crisis after crisis, exceptionally long hours at my day job and three bouts with the flu that is going around ... THE ARTIST'S CHOICE ANNUAL SALE is finally underway ( although two months late ). Discounts range from 5% up to 50% off some top artwork. Don't delay, order today as orders are already rolling in. ALSO, although not fool proof … we have removed a huge amount of artwork from the website that previously has been sold or returned to the artists. We are aware that it was a nuisance and apologize for any past inconvenience. ALERT : For those that are new to the sale. Due to the massive volume of orders we receive for literally THOUSANDS of pages of artwork … it usually takes WEEKS to get answers to everyone. It is not unusual to take up to a month to get an answer depending upon where your order fell in the line. As all order are answered in the order they are received ( with the rare exception of something I know for a fact has not been ordered and it is easy to grab ) please be patient and aware of the possible delay. Please DO NOT email the same order from multiple email addresses. It causes tremendous amounts of duplicated work and wastes time for everyone. This happens every year and all it does is cause delays and frustration. Thank you. Finally, although it will take some time for everything to happen ... 2019 has lots of NEW things in store for THE ARTIST'S CHOICE with well over a dozen convention appearances ( more than ever before ) new artists being added, LOTS of new artwork, scans for everything online, new options of items to purchase like signed books ( old and new ), commissions and so much more coming this year. We hope you will join us for the ride. Get your orders in now ... the email is SpencerBck@aol.com. Thank you for 33 years of your ongoing support and patronage. Spencer R. Beck The Artist's Choice http://www.theartistschoice.com
  3. My Top Ten list seems to change every few years as I come to appreciate an artist moreso than prior years, and vice-versa. However, some things have remained consistent, and the following artists have never been in my Top Ten: Kirby, Toth, Fraz, Schulz, Golden, N. Adams Here's my current Top Ten list: 1. Al Williamson 2. Dale Keown 3. Steve Ditko 4. Frank Miller 4. Jose Luis Garcia Lopez 6. John Romita Sr 7. John Romita Jr 8. Paul Smith 9. Marshall Rogers 10. Walt Simonson
  4. Bronze = Scooby Doo #1 Gold Key. If there’s one Gold Key book to own that transcends generations of avid TV watchers, merchandise buyers, and movie goers, it’s this one. I know it’s difficult to find in high grade but honestly, this blows Johnny Quest, Doctor Solar, and Magnus Robot Fighter clear out of the water. And for full disclosure, no, I do not own a copy. Copper = ASM 238, 252 are still cheap for books that are now 35 years old. I’d also include 239 - 1st full appearance and first battle with Spidey
  5. Yes, I have...and Jason Ewert of laser trimming fame, and numerous others, each one vile in their own way, yet none as despicable as Gerry D-O-U-C-H-E Ross!
  6. Yes, Spencer Beck sells signed prints for George. He has two gorgeous Wonder Woman prints, a New Teen Titans print, and a killer Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet print, and possibly more. Suggest you reach out to his art rep, Spencer Beck: spencerbck at aol dot com
  7. Miller —> Ronin came out before DKR. 1983 vs 1986 Byrne —> Man of Steel 1986 Perez —> Justice League AND NTT 1980
  8. Hey, Bird...think your timeline is off by a few years for each artists’ move to DC. I recall Perez was first, then Miller, and Byrne a few years after Miller
  9. Gerry Ross = biggest person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed in comics. Can’t imagine anyone more disreputable or dishonest in this industry
  10. ending today and still a huge bargain at the current bid of $340. good luck to all bidders
  11. HI, all: Spencer Beck, who is George Perez's art rep, has asked me to post this message on the CGC boards on behalf of George. DATE : JANUARY 19, 2019 FROM : George Pérez To all my loyal and kind fans who have supported me throughout the decades, In recent months, there has been a great deal of speculation as to the future of my career, my health, my ability to draw and my future convention appearances. As a result, I would like to clear up everything first hand so that, hopefully, any rumors, speculation and misinformation can be laid to rest. With respect to future published work in comics and such ... while I know it’s been no secret that I’ve been dealing with a myriad number of health issues (diabetes, heart ailments, vision issues, etc.), they have indeed have forced me to, for all intents and purposes, formally retire from the business of creating new comic stories. As for home commission requests, I’m afraid that my retirement must now extend to privately commissioned drawings as well. While I am gratified that all of the customers who have received their pieces were more than pleased with the results, some even consequently commissioning more of them, it’s just becoming too much of a strain on my eyes to produce the fully rendered ink and pencil-tone pieces on a quality level that justifies the price I’m being paid for them. In regards to convention sketches, I will need to cut back on those as well. While I will no longer sketch at the conventions themselves, I will, through my art agent Spencer Beck of The Artists Choice, be taking orders for 5 ( FIVE ) con-style head sketches, per convention day that I am in attendance which will be done at home to be collected at the conventions. Fans placing orders must be personally present to pick up the piece , NO PROXIES. The price for these will be a good deal pricier than in the past, going for $100 each, but please take some solace that all the monies I earn for these sketches, as well as my appearance fees, will be donated to various charities. To place an order, or for initial details, please contact Spencer / The Artist's Choice directly at Spencerbck@aol.com. Any changes or further announcements will be made by Spencer and myself on his website http://www.theartistschoice.com/perez.htm and on my fan website https://sites.google.com/a/comicbookseries.info/gpz/ Furthermore, for those that are interested … although I will only be attending about six conventions this year and one make up convention in 2020 ( *** see below for complete schedule ) 2019 will more than likely be my last year touring this great land meeting so many great fans. As the next decade begins, I have two shows, Dragon Con and Fetish Con that have personal meaning to me which I intend to attend yearly unless circumstances prevent it … but, for all intents, 2019 will wind down that part of my career as well. The good news is, even though I will not be sketching at the shows, I will still be autographing and be available for photo ops, and, as has been my policy throughout my career, I will not be charging for either. In closing, please don’t feel sorry for me about all these life and career changes. Thankfully I earn more than enough income through royalties to have a comfortable life wherein I may never need to work again. Unless, of course, something really tempting comes along and I’m given sufficient lead time. Hey, you never know. Long story short, I will be just fine. I’ve had a wonderfully good run doing exactly what I have wanted to do since I was a child. Now I can sit back and watch the stuff I helped create entertain whole new generations. That’s a pretty nice legacy to look back on. And so much of that is thanks to all of you, the GREATEST fans in the world. I am humbled and forever grateful. 13. Hi, all: I've decided to part with a few more Brave and the Bold #170 pages on consignment via Heritage. Page #7 is currently available (Auction ends Sunday, Jan 20) and features Batman in every panel. Here's a direct link to the auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/jim-aparo-brave-and-the-bold-170-story-page-7-batman-and-nemesis-original-art-dc-1981-/a/121903-13003.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 And here's an image of the page for sale, courtesy of Heritage:
  14. Nearly 10 years ago, I sold two covers along with a half dozen pages illustrated by Marshall Rogers. Within the past few months , the fella selling artwork on behalf of Marshall’s sister, Suzanne, has sold approximately 10 pages. I believe those were priced at $400 each
  15. HI, all; Just a quick reminder the auction for this page ends tomorrow, Sunday Jan 6. Still very cheap so it looks like someone will be getting a good deal!
  16. Hi, all; I've consigned another great Jim Aparo page from Brave and the Bold #170 to Heritage Auctions. Aparo was channeling some of Neal Adams' design sensibilities in this issue, and this is a nice one to own, so don't miss this opportunity! Generally, these pages sell in the range of $800-$1,000+. The current high bid is $70 so who knows, you may get a deal! The auction ends Sunday, Jan 6th, and you can access the auction and bid directly here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/jim-aparo-the-brave-and-the-bold-170-story-page-5-original-art-dc-1981-/a/121901-11004.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 And here's the page:
  17. As much as I enjoy artwork by the likes of Adams, Raymond, Williamson, Fraz, et al., when folks start mentioning $500K estimates, three things immediately come to mind: 1. It’s a Buck Rogers covers, and those that can afford it and actually care about Buck are dwindling in number with each passing year 2. For that kind of dough, I’d MUCH rather have the ASM 100 cover, for numerous reasons! 3. For that kind of dough, I’d MUCH rather have a Fraz painting
  18. I think it’s time to add Hulk 377, 3rd print to this list. It is legitimately a $100+ book
  19. Hi, all. just a quick reminder the auction for this Aparo page ends tomorrow. Good luck to all bidders! 👍🏻
  20. Hi, all; I've consigned this great Jim Aparo page from Brave and the Bold #170 to Heritage Auctions. Generally, these pages sell in the range of $800-$1,000+. The current high bid is $180 so who knows, you may get a deal!
