  1. Looking at the number of ‘views’ currently for some key pieces, I’d say this has been a very quiet auction thus far. I’m certain it will pick up soon
  2. Time has shown the 1st part of your prediction does not hold water...the movie was a box office success, exceeding studio expectations for its 1st two weeks so given its revenues, I think there’s next to zero chance of Sony scrapping its plans for the Spideyverse of movies to come!
  3. That’s interesting... here in the Toronto area, ROM #1’s are plentiful, but #75 is quite difficult to find, perhaps it’s simply a matter of regional distribution variances back in the day.
  4. Well, you can always check out HA's completed auctions to see that this cover sold in Feb 2016 for $2.6K. The splash from that issue also sold in Feb 2016 for $1,075
  5. Nice to see this thread revived. HA has done it yet again, with another auction full of eye-popping, mouth-drilling artwork! I took a look at the complete auction listings and I believe I’m tracking over 300 items. i will whittle down my “must-have’s” to approximately five pieces prior to live bidding and will be keeping my fingers crossed to snag two or three of them ? by the way, looks like the choice material will be split between Platinum nite and Friday live bidding.
  6. Thanks for this info. It would appear as though a trend has been forming. ?
  7. Someone mentioned Quadrant previously and I’ll second that recommendation!
  8. So, it’s been a few weeks since the movie was released to mixed reviews and I’m just wondering if anyone has seen a general trend up or down in prices?
  9. Well, if people are adding Fantasy Quartely #1, then we definitely need to add Cerebus #1
  10. When Todd took over as pencilled on ASM 298, it was a revelation, a dramatic change in artistic license of the character, and I was utterly gobsmacked by Todd’s art. So much, in fact, that I went back to my LCS and purchased 10 more copies. i struck up a friendly conversation with the store owner and he told me that ASM 300 was going to be double sized, and the story will introduce a new villain, too. Well, since I was already hooked on Todd’s art, I was totally excited about seeing twice as much of his art, and I didn’t really care too much about the intro of a new villain.LOL! ? So I told him that I had $100 and was wondering if he could make me a deal on the price, and he did. I ended up with 80 copies (bags and boards included) in part, I think, because the Store owner may have had second thoughts about the large quantity he ordered. Well, the comic arrived and I cherry picked my copies and read one as soon as I got home. And it was awesome of course. Fast forward a few years and I had to sell several dozen copies to offset school fees, text books, yadda yadda yadda. Once I graduated and got a job, I found myself drifting away from comics and moving towards Original Comic Art. I started slowly at first, dipping my toes into the water with a sketch here and a cheap page there and before I knew it, I was spending like a drunken sailor. Original comic art was my crack! Not too long ago, I had realized that I nearly fulfilled my OA collecting goals, with one notable exception... I wanted the cover to ASM 300. I had engaged in a discussion with its owner approximately a year ago and made an offer, it it was rejected so when I contacted the owner again, I was more determined (read: willing to spend more than before), but unbeknownst to me, the owner was engaged in discussion with another interested party, one who recently came into a lot of money and is the new owner of the cover. Yeah, I was sad, and it hurt like a ton of bricks came crashing down upon me, but then I remembered how much I enjoyed the comic back in the day and upon meeting Todd again at the ACE comicon in Arizona, a wave of nostalgia hit me and I started picking up a few copies here and there and I have no intention of slowing down, regardless of whether the movie is good or bad. I’m just waiting on a few more copies to come back from CGC, and I’ll post a group photo as soon as I can ??
  11. ROM was a serviceable title with sporadic flashes of greatness, such as some of the Sienk covers or the Ditko/Russell interiors. In an age of weekday afternoon toys adapted to comics cartoons (transformers, Thundercats, GI Joe, etc.), it was a product of its era.
  12. Ah yes, the old, tiny snippet everyone uses when convenient to bash Dave. But my question again: what is YOUR personal experience with Dave? Ever meet the man or do you just feel like besmirching him on this message board?
  13. Dave Sim was not/ is not what you state. I’ve known the man for over 30 years. What is your personal experience/connection to him to draw such a conclusion?
  14. Glen, Many thanks for the links. I thoroughly enjoyed them and found them to be informative. I was even able to read-read the story again with all of the page scans included in the articles. and Gene, thanks for your response to my questions. It was interesting to note where we agree and diverge. Given the aforementioned, I will concede this story may be very significant to a handful of collectors willing to pay $XXXK+ for it, and I wish them all the best. Me, I’d rather have a nice McSpidey cover for that kinda dough. ?
  15. Much improved location and the venue was a big upgrade, too. looking forward to the next show, and very much hoping you will consider including a local artist or two, just to change things up a bit and make it more compelling for additional folks to attend the show well done! ??
  16. So we’re hearing a lot of folks opine about the historical significance of this story as a basis for heightened valuation, but I just don’t see it. Perhaps they will clarify What historical significance this story contains? additionally, EC’s have been reprinted to death so this story was/is/will be accessible to everyone on this message board. I read the story back in the 80’s and again in the 90s and thought it was ‘OK’. Not exceptional or even great, but just ‘OK’. The hardcore EC collectors may have been very active in purchasing EC comics and participating in Russ’ EC OA Auctions in the 80’s, but honestly, I think they are now in a different phase in their lives and are probably reducing the size of their collections, and not seekIng to purchase more OA. as for the generation of OA collectors presently most active, I am assuming they were born between 1965-1980, give or take a few years. Does this story/art combination truly resonate with them? At the numbers people are throwing around in this thread? I really don’t know, but I do recall how excited we were when the cover to ASM 121 came to HA. A signicant cover of the ASM and arguably one of the pillars that ushered in the Bronze Age of comics, so there was that whole ‘historically significant ‘ thing going for it. Estimates of $400K and more were cited and in the end, the final hammer price was met with a dull thud of less than $300K
  17. Most of his stuff is on his CAF, including items for sale. Might want to check his art there
  18. Jeff is a good guy and always quick to respond. Try reaching him through his CAF under Jeff Singh. ??
  19. I had a Belgian roommate several years ago And whilst I do not judge a country based on a single individual, let me just say that his level of education did not align to your National standard.
  20. Hmm, around $155K USD (juice included, but not including VAT)...
  21. How much is that in ‘Mercian greenbacks?
  22. Oh? I would have thought they’d auction all of the OA in the same segment of the auction.
