  1. That's a pretty good question as I like both artists and I can appreciate ASM 39 for the significant developments that take place vis a vis Spidey's identity being revealed. But when I look at the art in ASM 39, it doesn't quite have the same look nor eye appeal of say, issue #50. So for me, I'll take a Ditko ASM 17, 23 or 27 page over the ASM 39 page, from an aesthetic point of view.
  2. Byrne art has dropped? I must have blinked and missed that. Somebody should inform the high bidders on the Superman pieces that sold over the past few auctions on Clink! I'll bet they'd disagree with you.
  3. My, my. Who are all of these 85-95 year olds who were around when Action comics #1 came out and are spending hundreds of thousands, and even millions of dollars for a copy? They must be extremely nostalgic and very well off, eh?
  4. Ha haa! I've done the math, including funds from selling pints of blood, eating Kraft Dinner at every meal for the next 5 years, and I still won't be able to afford this cover ☹️
  5. OK, maybe not official since it hasn't been 'blessed' by the powers-that-be at Heritage, but the auction isn't that far away and I haven't seen a thread for it yet so let's all meet here and chat about some of our favourite pieces in the auction, answer some questions, and hopefully, we'll end up with a few winners and share in our victories. Romita Sr ASM #100 cover. So this cover needs no introduction and will be part of many, many 'what do you think its worth' conversations. At the end of the day, this iconic cover will find a good home, a wealth home. I just wish it would be my home, but alas, its not in the cards. Here's the linky: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/john-romita-sr-and-frank-giacoia-amazing-spider-man-100-cover-original-art-marvel-1971-/p/7177-68001.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Kane Star Wars #7 cover. I never read the comic so excuse my ignorance, but was the steroid Bugs Bunny a recurring character in the comic book? Never seen him before. Here's the linky: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/gil-kane-and-tony-dezuniga-star-wars-9-cover-original-art-marvel-1978-/p/7177-90001.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Adams Batman 232 page featuring Bats and Ra's is pretty cool. I've seen some 234 pages floating around so I'm curious if a page with Ra's will command the same or more? Here's the linky: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/neal-adams-and--giordano-batman-232-story-page-5-ra-s-al-ghul-original-art-dc-1971-andlt-/p/7177-80001.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Heath Showcase #27 page, featuring the 1st appearance of the Sea Devils. OK, I know that Sea Devils isn't the most exciting title, and although Russ' war pages are highly prized, his Sea Devils stuff is overlooked. But take a close look at this page. I mean, really look at it...its gorgeous. Linky: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/russ-heath-showcase-27-story-page-20-sea-devils-original-art-dc-1960-/p/7177-36016.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Jill Thompson Sandman #45 Stripper page. Sandman is searching for his big brother, Destruction and asks his former girlfriend, Ishtar (now a stripper) if she knows his whereabouts. This sequence with Ishtar was very memorable. Here's the linky: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/jill-thompson-and-vince-locke-sandman-v2-45-story-page-17-original-art-dc-vertigo-1993-andlt-/p/7177-75001.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Romita Jr ASM 231 splash. so, peak Romita Jr page from a great period in ASM...just after the Juggernaut two-parter, and shortly before the intro of the Hobgoblin. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/john-romita-jr-and-jim-mooney-amazing-spider-man-231-splash-page-22-original-art-marvel-/p/7177-75014.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Perez FF 195 cover. Nice image and always interesting to see George's work on the FF. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/george-perez-and-joe-sinnott-fantastic-four-195-cover-namor-original-art-marvel-1978-/p/7177-90003.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 I'll post some more over the next few days.

  8. Would love to see an Artist Spotlight on Dale Keown OA collecting, similar to the McFarlane Spotlight you did a while back ?
  9. The driving factor for me was that Sabretooth was a top tier villain back when I was collecting comics. His current stature in the Marvel Universe has absolutely no bearing on what I was willing to pay for the cover.
  10. I guess I'm about a week late to this thread, but I wanted to chime in with a few random observations and see if folks feel the same way or differently: Neal Adams Action Comics 468 cover = $10K and Tec 408p1 = $6.5K. So these are both kind of neat, and probably won't check off all of the boxes for hardcore Adams collectors, but none the less, were prices soft on these two offerings? Bolland covers --> She Hulk 14 cover = $8.2K & Robin #3 cover = $5.5K, plus Camelot 300 #1p9 splash = $5.2K. Honestly, its been a while since I've seen one Bolland cover for sale publicly, let alone two in the same auction and quite frankly, I don't recall the result of the last sale, so can someone more in tune with Bolland values provide some guidance? Buckler PPTSS #119 cover = $12.5K. This was a very memorable cover for me and represents the tail end of my fanatic Spider-Man zombie years when I purchased anything and everything with Spider-Man on the cover. I was a player around $8K and a bit surprised to see it end at $12.5K. Then again, the less interesting PPTSS #113, also by Buckler, sold recently for $9K. Byrne MOS #6 splash = $19.75K & Superman #4p1 splash = $10.25K. Just. Wow. The cover to Action 584 sold for $25K, and everything else kind of follows suit... up, up, and away, eh? Dillon Preacher 60p7 = $2.8K. Alright, this one's quite late in the run, but its still a significant page whereby Jesse and SOK come to some sort of an understanding so at $2.8K, this one went cheap, right? Or is everyone dumping pages cause the TV show missed the mark? Geiger Hulk 337 cover = $15.3K. Steve Geiger wasn't a household name, but did turn out some decent covers over a few years at Marvel. Some of his Web of Spidey covers were nice (Web 29 with Wolverine & Web 30 featuring the Origin of the Rose come to mind), and he also illustrated several of the Incredible Hulk covers during McFarlane's run on the title. So, if a McFarlane Hulk cover sells for $40K, is a Geiger cover substantiated at $15K? Are there other factors (non-X kind) at play? I mean, this cover *IS* 30 years old and in that timeframe that appeals to folks my age. Starlin Avengers Annual 7p43 = $13.3K...worthy of comment? High, low or just right? BWS Machine Man 3p19 = $1.9K. So, unless this is a BWS re-touched page or something like that, I'd have to say this was the steal of the auction, right? Last page sold for north of $7K and this one ended just shy of $2K. Bit of a head-scratcher.
  11. Excellent page. Was the bottom left panel used for a t-shirt? It looks very familiar.
  12. Oh, there's been a few public sales already of Byrne non-X-Men panel pages over $10K. Most recently, a very nice MTU page, and I do recall a few IF panel pages that sold north of 10k, possibly from issue 14 or 15?
  13. Geez, the Hulk cover tripled in price today and the 'live' last minute bidding hasn't even started yet!!!
  14. Another great write - up with good coverage of auction offerings. I'm still undecided about whether I enjoyed the focused articles (ie by artist or character) or overall coverage. Both are great to read, and insightful to newbies and veteran collectors alike so keep 'em coming! Those who collect Byrne AF have noticed a steady increase in prices over the past few years, even in the face of increased supply making its way onto the market recently. Pages containing a few panels with some of the more popular team members have been fetching between $1500 - $2000, and pages with Guardian command a premium. The page you've referenced in the Nov HA report is kinda special for a few reasons and it was easy to see why the final sale price was double your auction estimate. First and foremost, its a Wolverine crossover and it was still kind of a big deal to see Byrne draw Wolverine again after his stint on X-Men. Secondly, this issue features a flashback to Wolverine and Vindicator's (later Guardian) encounter in X-Men 109, but also contains some nice framing sequences outlining the story of how Logan first met James & Heather Hudson, how they took him in, and also revealed that the Canadian Government had plans for Wolverine, not Guardian, to be the leader of Alpha Flight.
  15. Rob, feel free to contact me. I've been tracking 300-400 auction lots on each HA Signature auction for the past several years and I can bring you up to date on most things. Also tracking high % of Clink Featured Auction OA, but for full disclosure I will state there's been some occasional results in the 'WTF' category that are simply unexplainable.
  16. Howdy, folks; Got a rip-snortin' awesome Andy Kubert X-Men #50 Double Page splash ending on CLINK tomorrow. Current price is ridiculously cheap at $600 so you may end up with a great piece of art for super-cheap. 17. As nice as the McSpidey is, there's a lot of other nice Spidey stuff that deserves attention in this auction, such as the following items: Bagley ASM 371 p10 featuring Spidey and the Black Cat http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DMARK%20BAGLEY%23Item_1213736&id=1213736&itemType=1#detail Bagley AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #383 PAGE 30 SPLASH http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DMARK%20BAGLEY%23Item_1213737&id=1213737&itemType=1 Bagley SPIDER-MAN 3: THE BLACK PAGE 10 VENOM SPLASH http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DMARK%20BAGLEY%23Item_1209360&id=1209360&itemType=1 Buckler SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #119 COVER with Sabretooth. very memorable! http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DRICH%20BUCKLER%23Item_1213165&id=1213165&itemType=1 Dodson SPIDER-MAN / BLACK CAT #1 PAGE 23 SPLASH http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DTERRY%20DODSON%23Item_1213750&id=1213750&itemType=1 McNiven CIVIL WAR #5 WRAP-AROUND COVER featuring Spidery, Green Goblin and Venom! http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DSTEVE%20MCNIVEN%23Item_1211014&id=1211014&itemType=1 Miller ASM Annual 15 page 20 with Spidey, Doc Ock and the Punisher http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DFRANK%20MILLER%23Item_1215885&id=1215885&itemType=1 Pollard ASM #203 with Spidey and 2nd appearance of Dazzler http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DKEITH%20POLLARD%23Item_1209354&id=1209354&itemType=1 Rogers Marvel Tales #250 cover featuring Spidey and the FF http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FALLSUB.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26id%3D1398%26Artist%3DMARSHALL%20ROGERS%23Item_1208828&id=1208828&itemType=1 ...and more.
