  1. O.M.G.!!! Kirby Avengers #1p2 included in this auction Jack Kirby and Ayers Avengers #1 Story Page 2 Original Art | LotID #181004 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com) No image yet, but here's the description: Jack Kirby and Ayers Avengers #1 Story Page 2 Original Art (Marvel, 1963). A key page in the formation of the Marvel Universe! This is the page where Loki forms his plan to trick Thor into fighting the Hulk. This event directly led to the formation of the Avengers. Thor, in the form of Doctor Don Blake, is making his first appearance outside of the Journey to Mystery title, and the same is true for Loki. And the Hulk had been seen outside of his series just once before. We even get a cameo by Jane Foster who will become Thor in Thor 4: Love and Thunder. The twice-up scale page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.5". Signed by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Ayers in the lower margin. Lightly toned and in Excellent condition.
  2. This is what, the 6th time Subby's origin has been retold? Not a key.

  4. 1st appearance fever in OA feels as though it’s taken forever to get here. It’s been a significant factor in so many branches of collectibles for so long that I often feel we are very, very late to the party!
  5. If sandman hadn’t called out Lucifer’s name in the last panel, I would have guessed it was a silhouette of an owl
  6. Was he the fella who collected Howard the duck OA?
  7. Terry also had quite a bit of art available for sale for years via The Artist’s Choice. likewise for David Mazzuchelli
  8. Bruh, you’ve got wayyyyyyy too much time on your hands 😂

  11. Before folks put in their guesstimates, they should be informed that this lot contains more than just the prelim cover. Per the HA description: To herald the arrival of the new black design, artist Ron Frenz designed a cover for ASM #252 that was an homage to Spidey's first appearance on the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15 by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. Frenz' initial design for that cover is on one of the pages included in this lot. On that same page is a full-figure image that is an homage to the cover of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2, and a partial rough sketch that seems to have been inspired by the very popular Spider-Man Marvelmania poster from 1967. The second page of initial designs features Spider-Man (in black costume) in several different familiar poses. And if that isn't enough, this lot also includes three pages of Ron Frenz' complete rough breakdowns for the 22 page story.Still not convinced? How about if we toss in Frenz' copy of the Roger Stern plot for ASM #252? You can't get much more "First Appearance" that that, now can you! The six-page plot breakdown are 8.5" x 11" photocopies from Roger Stern's original, with handwritten notations on all pages. They are stapled together. And we are surethis plot is from Roger Stern because the last paragraph is marked out, but it references a new villain named "The Blank" and gives a story name. That story name and the character instead showed up in West Coast Avengers#2... written by Roger Stern. The three page breakdown pages are 14" x 10.5" white paper, with pinholes in them. The two pages of costume designs and cover preliminary layouts are created in graphite and black marker on 14" x 10.5" white paper. The pages have been folded down the center and have pinholes.Everything is in Very Good condition
  12. For sure, and I don’t mind it one bit! I still enjoy seeing the artwork coming out of the woodwork, and the live auction drama.

  15. Thanks! This is where I grabbed the image for my posting. 😃
  16. The answer to this question isn’t so straight forward to me. I’m focused on bronze and copper ASM books and while there may be a lot of them out available for purchase at any given time, the price differential between ow/w and w pages does factor into how much I am willing to pay for a book, and even if I have interest in pursuing the book at all. case in point … asm 300 cgc 9.8 - so many copies available. I will only pursue white pages, even though a copy with ow/w may cost $1K less asm 238 and 252 cgc 9.8 CPV’s…I am fine with ow/w or even ow. These books are not that common in this grade (especially the 238) so I’m not as picky. asm 129 in cgc 9.8. The difference between ow/w vs w pages can be $5K+ so I have to do some serious soul searching before pulling the trigger on this book
  17. Hi, all: I've come across this Dr Doom piece by Romita Sr, but I can't place it so I'm reaching out to this well-informed collecting community with the hopes that someone can confirm if/where it was published? Thanks in advance!
  18. I nominate this for the dumbest post of the year.
  19. The Stan Lee signature on a cgc 9.6 ASM 300 is worth significantly more than the $250 offset against the McFarlane Sig. If you can only get one, get the copy signed by Stan. You can always get the McFarlane Sig at a later date.
  20. “Saddled with comments…” I’ll give you this…you have a unique way of looking at things!
  21. Some of the art guys collect in a very similar approach to some comic guys whereby they may collect only by character or by artist or by era or by title.
  22. The sale of the Secret Wars #8 pages will cause owners of ASM 252 pages to bring them out to auction, guaranteed!
