  1. Do you know who the vendor was that was set up like as soon as you walked into the building, the main front doors, he was straight to the back. It was one guy at the booth.
  2. CGC Promotes Shawn Caffrey to Vice President of Comics Grading The Certified Collectibles Group, which includes CGC, is pleased to announce the promotion of Shawn Caffrey to Vice President of Comics Grading. Caffrey’s interest in comics was sparked over 30 years ago, when his best friend introduced him to the Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. Over the years, his focus shifted toward independent publishers such as Pacific, Dark Horse, Eternity, Fantagor, Kitchen Sink (which offered titles and characters that appealed to his love for horror and science fiction). When online marketplaces began to take off, Caffrey became hooked on the collectibles market, collecting comics and toys throughout high school and college. Caffrey began his professional career in the industry in 2000, when he was hired by CGC in the encapsulation department and worked his way up to Grader and then Finalizer, a position he has held for over 20 years. He fondly recalls the highlights of his career: seeing amazing books, such as EC file copies and books from Nicholas Cage's collection, traveling to conventions, meeting and building relationships with remarkable people in the hobby who helped cultivate his knowledge of Modern comics, and becoming an Overstreet Grading Advisor in 2011. "Next to my wife and daughters, CGC is my family. I couldn't imagine a better place to spend more than half of my life; I’m proud to be a part of this hobby and what CGC has helped do for it. I am honored to have this new position and am looking forward to many more years with CGC and the comic book industry,” Caffrey said. “Shawn’s knowledge of modern comic books and grading are unsurpassed,” said Matt Nelson, CGC President. “Coupled with his tenure at CGC since its inception nearly 25 years ago, this is a well-deserved promotion. His presence is a contributing factor to CGC’s ongoing success, and I am excited to see what the future holds.”
  3. Oh wow, didn't know he jumped ship! Must have been offered a nice pay bump.
  4. Gotcha, I have to wonder if they are still compiling that. I'm not too worried personally. When I buy anything I give it the old once over eye test. So if something felt out of place I'd feel comfortable not buying. Who knows, maybe I'll come across one of these swapped out books in the future and can report it as such.
  5. I remember seeing a big list. Anyway, I think they've done a solid job.
  6. I thought it was a solid letter from the top brass. Appreciate the communication.

  11. I only sold one biggish book at the Swap meet, and he bought it. But yeah, he does bring a ton of joy to the event lol. I told him I saw his old episode on tubi where he traveled to check out someone’s collection and buy stuff. He said there was more episodes coming out I believe.

  14. Thanks Jimbo, a few people laughed at me for saying that lol, but I meant it.
  15. Ehhh, I feel like companies usually take their time with stuff like this. It only becomes public when someone leaks it, or the company officially decides to make it public. Clearly the Terrazas no longer worked their for a while now and couldn't perpetrate this anymore, so no reason to think their was potential future harm or a reason to make it public at least for that reason. I don't have a problem with knowing until the lawsuit became public.
  16. Makes sense. Yeah I have to assume standards and practices will change going forward.
  17. I honestly feel bad CGC is going through this. Tons of great people work there, and pour their heart and soul into the company. It's truly unfortunate, but not a surprise such shady people exist to commit crimes like this. I hope the Terrazas are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and get what's coming to them! They should be blacklisted from everything revolving around collectibles. It doesn't sound like it was a lot of books, I think I saw 23 reported in a youtube video from Swagglehaus. That would make sense I guess, because if you were this grader doing it from the inside over a couple years, doing it too many times would raise even more red flags if you think about it. This is definitely a challenging time for CGC, but I still think they provide a great service and I plan to still use them and buy graded books as usual. If anything, I think people just need to be more vigilant now a days and look out for each other.
  18. No unfortunately on the RC's. Just a lot of 89-92 fleer and hoops basketball wax with Jordan and all the dream teamers. All CSG graded. I sell them super cheap as you can imagine haha.
