  1. From the DC alternate line of comics dealing with more mature material. Not the usual slam bang super hero stuff. A coming of age story about a woman on the road, moving from city to city as she ages. Nothing ground breaking, but a entertaining good read. By writer Brain Wood and artist Ryan Kelly. These are 4 pages from that 12 issue series, 2005-2008. 3 of these pages are the last 3 pages of the last issue. Decent enough art that will probably go fairly cheap. I got a lot of comments on them while they were on my walls. Outside of the artist himself, I am the only owner. I got them in 2008. https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOCAL-2-OA-pages-with-Art-by-Ryan-Kelly-2005-series-DC-No-reserve/273306629705?hash=item3fa2583649:g:Mv4AAOSw8FBbJ-T9 https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOCAL-Penultimate-OA-page-with-Art-by-Ryan-Kelly-2005-series-DC-No-reserve/273306618684?hash=item3fa2580b3c:g:zUQAAOSwL4lbJ-Nu https://www.ebay.com/itm/Last-pg-of-a-2005-08-DC-series-LOCAL-Art-by-Ryan-Kelly-No-reserve/273306594817?hash=item3fa257ae01:g:D-0AAOSwdxZbJ9rn

Violence against woman story. Guy actually slugs his GF in the mouth in the cover story.
  4. Definitely mostly off topic - A ex GF told me that when she heard that song she always thought of...Keeping it G rated here. Anyway, I was a happy man when it came on the radio in her company.
  5. One of my all time favorite romance covers. I should have purchased the OA some years ago when I had the opportunity...
  6. A little off topic, maybe you may be interested in this though; I was just reading some of those old Amazing World of DC Comics mags, from 1974. At that point Action comics number 1 was only 36 years old. In it they mentioned that someone has recently purchases an Action #1 for $1,800 and that the sale demonstrates the interest in first editions. The article's subject matter was DC's first appearances comics of the golden age.
  7. I'm guessing over $7,500. Should be interesting.
  8. Reference probably taken from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.
  9. I think I like the offerings in this auction more then in the Heritage that just ended.
  10. Sweethearts #111. dated 1952. A wild story, Girl on the run. About a hobo group of gals. Maybe it is just me, but that they would publish this in the early 50's is amazing to me. It would have made a lurid sensational movie. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sweethearts-111-May-1952-Dont-let-the-dull-photo-cover-fool-you-4-5-grade/273201036528?hash=item3f9c0cfcf0:g:WLsAAOSwfsha8b2o

  12. Is it just me, or does $9,560 seem a little high for this page? I know it's from a turning point issue, and this is a primary page. I could have seen around 3k, but come, over 9.5k for this? It's a rather dull page by a decent but not great artist, and no Batman on the page. Some one pull me back off the ledge... https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/irv-novick-and--giordano-batman-217-story-page-5-original-art-dc-1969-/a/121818-11113.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  13. Ditko Spider-man. The gold standard of OA. Great page!
  14. I like the Spider-Woman cover better, but that's based more on nostalgia then art. I purchased both comics off the stands, still the SW cover has more of a typical Marvel attitude of that day to it. The MK cover is one of the first to break out of that routine 60's, 70's Marvel style. No question art wise the Moon Knight cover is superior.
  15. Cavewoman Pangean Sea first series cover and interior pages. I collect NYC centric art and this issue is Cavewoman in NYC. Also, The ordinal series in Lois Lane comics The Rose and The Thorn. I have seen maybe 4, 5 pages for sale in 15 years. Actually same goes for the 00's series Rose and Thorn. Rarely see them.

  17. With the money now involved, I am actually expecting that at some point in the next 5,10 years a fake high value 1960's Marvel cover or 2 to be auctioned at a reputable auction house. With all the (probably permanently) lost covers out there, it's ripe for a scam. With the expertise they have in Hong Kong re paper forgeries (just to use that area as an example), I think it is more likely then not this scheme will eventually hatch. They'll get the right board and ink, make it look '60's era, use a expert forger (it's got to be easier to forge then a full color painting or USA bill - which they are already doing) and probably foist an elaborate story. Something like new home owner finds stacks of comics and OA in garage or basement. Do a little HW, buy a cheap old estate sale home where no one can challenge their story as far as what may have been hidden away in an attic or somewhere. Or even a old car at a public auction, Lord knows what you can expect to find in those trunks. The risk is low. If they are found out, they just plead ignorance. Hey they consigned dozens of other items that were in that trunk, and they all were authentic. Whats going to happen to them beside they may have lost a chunk of money. Around, what 30k, 50k to have the work done? A FF48 may fetch around 500K, 600K,700K? if I were the boss of a crime family I would say go for it. That's a high reward for relatively low risk.

  19. I think most long time collectors know that the FF 50 story is complete, or was at least until I last heard a few years ago, and so are a relatively decent number of the classic Marvel stuff. The complete FF 50 is just one of a more then a few...
  20. A little off subject. Around 2000 I was at the San Diego comic con and Irwin Donenfeld, the son of DC comics founder Harry Donenfeld, was speaking on a panel, and he said he recalls as a 11 or 12 year old boy reading the original pages to the Action comics number 1 Superman story before it was published. He said his dad would sometimes give him the original art pages to read to see if he liked a story or character, giving him an idea if a concept should be published or not. Irwin being about the same age as most kids that read comics, his dad wanted to get his opinion. I don't remember if he said he was also handed the cover to the issue along with the OA pages to that very first ever Superman comic story. I think probably he was not. Like another poster said, that cover is almost definitely lost to history. If it does still exist and was ever found, does anyone disagree it would be the single most valuable piece of OA ever? Easily 15 million today's market?
