  1. I like the game show type of atmosphere Felix creates with these drops. I had sticker shock on the prices, I had a set a price in mind for a mid tier page... I was so under that the asking price made up my mind for me. I would watch for the sidelines. I think obviously they were worth the asking price or they would still be on the site today. I did notice I had to fight the what the heck impulse buy because of the FOMO that these type of drops create. I managed to fight it off, will it be one of those moments I regret down the line...it could be! But today, I have no regrets.. these type of drops are for a high tier collector than I. There is no doubt in my mind this is a special artistic milestone by a hyper talented artist. I think if he can continue to do major projects with this level of polish and creativity his prices will continue on the same upward trajectory... it was a good day to be Tradd Moore!
  2. “Hey I’m 29!” Well, I could had said the oh so many years ago when I bought my first page. When I just did the math, I was actually surprised I was that young when I entered the hobby.
  3. Shame someone got Steve Oliff to color the Hampton Dan Dare. I kid! I have zero exposure to Dan Dare outside of your posts, but every time I see one of these I feel like I need to find out more. The artwork is just stunning. I know John Byrne is a big fan of the book. Keep spreading the Dan Dare goodness!
  4. Hard to beat the Peanuts Sunday... it’s a good one, very funny! I really like the Byrne Black Panther cover, do you know who the inker was?
  5. Gary has a rock solid reputation, no worries when dealing with him.
  6. If he lands 5K for that page, he should just recreate the whole issue himself... just to make stacks of cash. When he finishes Dark Knight Returns his next project should be the Killing Joke recreation! He’s very talented and his work should sell for more, but 5K seems like a major stretch.
  7. “LF Fellow Younger Collectors To Connect With” to quote Ben Kenobi ”we aren’t the collectors you’re looking for” TikToc ... that reminds me I need to wind my pocket watch. What am I doing holding my watch... am I early or late. Hey where’s my meds. Honey there’s a young guy on the steps, says he’s looking for young collectors. Sorry friend, there hadn’t been young collectors since... well since... honey what was I talkin bout... Oh yeah... since we were young collectors
  8. Nice work guys, good for you for using your time wisely... go forth and create.
  9. For the sellers once you back out all the HA fees and pay Uncle Sam his cut of the seller’s profit. It really takes a massive bite out of these big auction numbers.
  10. This thread prompted me to buy the Dragons Lair game for the iPhone. Had a good time playing it. For the investor types on the board it produced a much better ROI, being that I spent $4.99 this time to finish the game. I’m sure it took more like $40 to finish it the first go around in ‘83 (at the Barrel of Fun).
  11. You know the saddest part of the cover alteration was that it was done with little or no artistic care or finesse. Looks like the previous owner used a fork to cut out the velum. I doubt he did a minute of research as to the what was best archival glue to use to attach his shreds of paper to the fine Kubert art. Let this be a cautionary tale.... RESPECT THE ART! I would say the previous owner is an investor/flipper no way could he be an art lover and do this : (
  12. Thanks! For that, I will step aside on any and all Phantom Stranger pages!
  13. Killer page, really enjoy seeing how great Paul Smith drew these characters expressing emotion...masterful! Paul is second to Byrne as my all time favorite X-Men artist. He brought a certain gracefulness to the character’s poses and also to his linework...WOW!
  14. PS I’m glad Burkey shifted his focus away from Wolverine... leaving a bit of Wolvie art for the rest of us... SNIKT!!!
  15. Another good show. For those of us who been in the hobby for a while but not regular convention goers, it’s cool to get to know the big players a bit better. Kinda like Felix’s podcast it brings the community just a little bit closer. For example after Felix’s interview Albert Moy, I heard his stories and when I had a chance to talk with him at a Dallas show it was very pleasant and I actually had a conversation jumping off point thanks to the podcast. The same will hold true next time I speak with Burkey and who ever shows up at the next comic art con. This is really good for the hobby and I’m sure it will help the guys bottom line... by letting other collectors know them and feel comfortable approaching them with possible trades or consignments. Keep up the good work guys and enjoy the 4th.. PLEASE keep the comic art away from the fireworks!
  16. Another good episode! Burkey needs to lock the door, some dude just come wondering in right in the middle of the episode ; ) Jon is a live wire, one can only imagine how wild his San Diego Comic Con stories get! Thanks guys, these are very entertaining!
  17. I think it’s official GreatEscape has just started a trend!!! I bet the next art con you’ll see some dealers put some pieces in this system. It would definitely help the dealers stand out from the pack, I know I would stop and take notice!
  18. The Adams Storm piece is a wonderful addition! He has been consistently great for a looooong time!
  19. Hopefully in the future the inker will type a notification in non repo blue on the bottom of the page. “hand drawn inks by John Doe over blue line printout out of John Smith’s pencils.” Until this starts to happen there will a lot of be people buying what they think is 100% original art when in reality it’s 50% original 50% printout. In my opinion it’s on the inkers to straighten this mess out. Telling the buyer isn’t the same because during the next transaction of the page that info isn’t going to be revealed 100% of the time. Inkers need to make sure it’s physically indicated on the art.
  20. I am most interested in the penciler. He is the one who faced the blank page and tamed that beast! This is doesn’t diminish the inkers contribution. I definitely understand how hard it is to produce good quality inks, inkers need to be appreciated... I love inkers I am impressed with what they can do, but for me at the end of the day it feels like less than original art, it is more like ”almost original art”... because the most important part... the initial artistic creation is not original. What I would love for inkers that are inking over printouts to do is- in the same repoblue ink type a description of the process at the bottom space of the page. “John Smith’s original inks over a digital printout of Jim Smith’s pencils” This would help future purchasers to know exactly what the are buying without having to track down the inker or the rep to find out how original I the original art is.
  21. You might want to add Perez to your list, it was just one issue but the artwork from his X-Men annual was very nice!
  22. That is great to know, I already have a flight booked. I definitely will introduce myself, meeting the guys in the hobby is just about the best part of the cons. I'll be the guy in the green foam Gumby suit... it is a cosplay c-list movie star show right?
  23. I sent Zaddick a PM through CGC few few days ago, asking about the status of the NYC Comic Art Expo, since the site doesn't seem to be active and haven't heard anything. I didn't receive a reply back. Does anyone know if the show is still on? Any info would be helpful, trying to see if I may need make alternate travel plans to a different convention.
  24. Mike- Save me a parking spot, I would be so there!
