  1. ok, the film had a $375 million box office. it made sony money for sure, but zootopia had a 1 billion box office, moana $690 million, ralph breaks the internet $529 m, hotel transylvania 3 $528 m, etc., so, in terms of animated movies, not a huge blockbuster. right next to Peter Rabbit (a movie I liked too) in the box office rankings... which cost $40 million less to make. I am surprised it did not do better. Awards are great and all, but it won awards because it was different, not because of his character.
  2. nobody ever went to any movie to see pepe. frankly, even as a kid i felt bad for that poor gal he was constantly sexually harassing. it just didn't seem right.
  3. do they force non-comic nerd screen writers to exhaustively review the background material? i really hope they don't have someone writing a screen play who doesn't spent a week immersing herself with what has been done with the character (zatanna really should not be that hard) to understand why fans like them. It seems like common sense, but with DC, I'm not so sure.
  4. hmm, in my head i though HUlk 2 was before Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 1 was where they got their sh**t together, but I guess not, it came out a month earlier... which was also dumb, why release 2 movies so close? Not that I think Hulk 2 would have been a winner with more time between the two. but yeah, marvel was not doing well with movies until IM 1. I had forgotten Cap 1 did not do that well, which I don't fully understand, other than the foreign market might not be so excited about "captain america" in the title, at least for the first movie. it missed the mark in europe where I suspect they didn't have much interest in watching a guy dressed as a flag save them (UK, France, etc.) or defeat them (Germany, Italy, etc.). Joker did 10X the box office in Germany as the first Cap movie. with that said, all the movies you are referencing are ancient history in hollywood.
  5. well, yes and no. if the character continues to resonate I think there is room in the spideyverse. but they have so many versions it is a bit watered down. maybe this is more important to the character that more recent comic sales: https://gamerant.com/spider-man-miles-morales-big-sales-hit/ many millions of folks have spent $50 or whatever to play Miles on the screen. they know who he is. he was a big part of a fairly successful animated film.
  6. I am not sure what a "marvel movie" is, just that all of them have worked, and even the most boring one out of all, thor dark world, made money. DC has had winners, they just need to see what worked in those. coherent stories help. I think they are still ticked off that Batman/Superman did not break a billion, but really, almost $900 million still turned a nice profit. They had three billion dollar movies in Aquaman, Joker, and WW, they should not be so shellshocked. ANYWAY..... HBO Max has gotten $30 or $45 out of my for a streaming service I might not have signed up for if not for these 2 movie releases. I have watched plenty of other stuff on it, sure, but I might not have signed up, so maybe they shouldn't give up on movies just yet.
  7. but isn't that some sort of vision of the future, not the stuff from 5000 years ago?
  8. She has been done well in the JL Dark cartoon movies where she is interacting with Constantine. But we've seen so many "young pretty people doing magic" TV shows this really needs to be done carefully.
  9. I don't have such a huge issue with them making supergirl a brunette. it will make eventually introducing power girl less confusing to more casual fans because now they've established that other multiverse versions of people do not need to be dopplegangers (the two barry allens). i've always found her more interesting.
  10. I want to watch it for david harbour. love that guy. i know hellboy was a bust, but still.
  11. $200 million budget means they have to hit $600 million box office to break even. I dunno. I want to see the movie. I will be fully vaccinated by then. My kids won't be. I'm not going to a theatre to watch a super hero movie without them. But I'm also not going to rent it on disney+ for $30.
  12. actually, dot marie jones probably looks the part too, she is 6' 3" and built like an offensive lineman.
  13. leslie is 6 feet tall (played college basketball). with that said, you're right in that granny has a little but of psycho humor to her. but leslie might not be able to not be herself. i'm not sure if she has the range. maybe some acting lessons.
  14. leslie can play vixen's mom/aunt/much older sister? or granny goodness, maybe big barda,... she's got the build for it.
  15. She looked the part. But that was a long time ago. she did not look so great on inhumans.
  16. there is no batgirl tv show. it is batwoman. whole different thing. batgirl, as in the paralyzed barbara gordon, will be in titans next season. As for Supergirl, she had her run, nothing can last forever. I agree though, there's no reason for either to have their own movie right out of the gate.
  17. Yeah, they don't seem to get it. Yes, maybe they can sell a lot of toys or whatever and the whole genre still makes lots of money, but their competitor makes oodles of money from movies. The audience is there. But DC wants to have an adversarial relationship. they are trying to sell HBO max for $15 a month. they need content too. marvel is spending $200 million for 6 episodes of falcon/WS or something along those lines. But they're crying about $80 million to generate 4 hours of programming. Folks who signed up for HBO Max for WW84 had their initial things end. It was telling me I had to renew and agree again. The primary reason i did so was to watch this movie (sure, there is other stuff). It seems like they have executives who dislike the genre. That's a problem.
  18. high grade will sell. the mid grade later issues, not so much. at least some of the early issues have some relevant 1st apps
  19. I dunno. It depends on how lucky were were fishing moderns and coppers out of dollar boxes. seriously, for $10-15 in dollar box adventures you could have about $1000-1200 worth of recently hot captain america/falcon related books. the other day I converted $6 worth of dollar box books into an $1100 sale. (ok, some of them were not bona fide dollar box books when I bought them, they might have been worth $10-$20, I got lucky, but still) right now I could probaby convert a long box of hot moderns and coppers into a few legit BA keys, a;; bought for $1-3 each.. but not in high grade. the legit early SA keys, not so much. secondary stuff, sure, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/tales-of-suspense-57-CGC-3-5-First-Hawkeye/284212538358?hash=item422c632bf6:g:SIQAAOSw~UJgRqrj I sold a copy of that book in a bit worse shape (probably a 3.0) for under $10 in 2002 or so. ouch.
  20. wow, i missed a lot of details in the movie watching half of it after midnight, like lois..... and on a totally unrelated note, i can't believe Leto is 3 years older than Phoenix and a year older than Affleck. Seriously, I think of him as maybe 40 because he was clare daines's "hiogh school" boyfriend and she is 41 and he's a year older than i am.
  21. they don't have any available now. i might have bought the last one. if they're selling for $40-50 I think I just take my money. it is a nice copy and all. is this going to be a $75 or $100 book? I have my doubts. maybe if I roll the dice on slabbing it.
