  1. which thread was this? i know a few issues in that run now matter, but it had been so dead for so long. but i suppose anything is possible if people think a book will be a 9,8.
  2. Why? Parents spend that much for a pack of stupid pokeman cards. It is true, I spent $9 yesterday on a captain underpants book that will get read a lot longer than two comics by my 9 year old.
  3. So king shark has been a regular on TV for years in 2 shows and now he will be a background character in suicide squad and folks are going nuts? But for marvel the TV shows made all this winter soldier falcon and scarlet witch stuff explode when the movies, in comparison, didn't do a huge amount. Weird.
  4. Those books geared toward 8-12 year olds are usually short and have big letters.
  5. I was wondering why Marvel Premiere 49 has not done much, although a copy just sold for $40, which is a big jump: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Premiere-49-Falcon-Comic-Near-Mint-NM-/133698013547?hash=item1f2105c96b%3Ag%3AayoAAOSwePpeUItf&nma=true&si=BZbpsjZvXBDBh7scMVfgI%2BAabNw%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 I can't seem to magnify the scan and don't know the seller, so I have no idea if the buyer thought it may be better than the NM- listed. If they just have Banshee or Deathlok appear in episode 6 I am a made man! (I found another two Cap 287s to add to my hoard!) (Deathlok is hardly out of the question as he is exactly the type of character who would be providing assistance to F and WS as he is a SHIELD free lancer (at least as of his last tv appearance), but having 2 cyborgs, one with built in rocket launchers, might be too much, and it doesn't sound like they're ready to start dragging the SHIELD folks back in (seriously, you have a show that runs 7 seasons and you bury it six feet under?)
  6. so, the #7 I have is one of the nicest BA books in my collection, by some miracle. As I have no experience submitting 9.8s, I can't claim anything, but this thing looks perfect. It is a part of a whole run of pristine Machine Mans I bought at some point. But by the time I got it back from CGC it will likely be "Power who?"
  7. Two sales at $55 and $59.99.. the higher one is maybe a 6.0-6.5? The other one is also mid grade with a wonky spine. So I think it is triple digits for a really nice looking raw copy if one comes up. Frankly, I don't have a guide in front of me, but isn't that what it is in guide in NM?
  8. King Shark is an absolute star in the Harley cartoon. The guy who voices him was funny as heck on Ballers and is so there too.
  9. Oh well, perhaps $50 like this, maybe over $500 if it still had the card it came with... I am not into manga, but 300 pages or so for $4.99, even in 2003, was a lot of bang for the buck.
  10. yeah, sure, it is going to hurt print runs. if DC can survive that then there may be some collectibles among those books. but in the interim aren't they losing a lot of folks who buy books monthly? are they really going to be able to do this at 15k print runs? i understand, DC has had premium priced deluxe books for a while and they sold like the DC black label stuff and the recent joker thing, but those are "events".. i'm not sure they can make superman an "event" every month
  11. nice copy. so is it your sense that after issue 5 or 6 the first prints get a bit more common? I have 2 - 7, 1st prints, no FQ #1, which I would like, but it does seem like #2 1st print may be less common, I am not sure with the psychology of this market whether the early ones past 6 or 7 would move anyway? if this ever takes off I knw FQ 1 in 9.8 will probably be the one to make real gains (and it is the only one I can find in cgc 9.8 right now), but in the interim I am loathe to spend $1K I don't have on one and there are quite a few in the census. you have sent m off on a tangent today!
  12. expensive annuals and giant sizes don't sell for more when they heat up as collectibles. it is the psychological problem DC is going to encounter moving to $5.99. A book gets hot and hits that $20-25 theshhold. It does it whether the cover is $2.99 or $5.99. On one you've made maybe 8X your money, on the other, maybe 4X. folks are A LOT quicker to say "what the heck" to $2.99-$3.99 than $5.99 and maybe buy extras even. I bought two copies of the HUlk/Thing Ross Diner issue because I really liked it. I might not have bought any at $5.99.
  13. it sold for $5-$9 this morning and was at $30+ in the afternoon. WTF? and herogasm 1 went from $40 to $90 in a few hours? glad i didn't list mine 2 weeks ago when i found it.
  14. i don't think an FF 19 or Thor 103 in current $500 condition (slabbed 4.0-4.5, higher if raw) were such easily found books for $20 5 or even 10 years ago. Could you luck into a deal? Sure. I was selling books like those for A LOT more than $20 during that timeframe. I paid $5 for 3.0 FF 52 maybe 7-8 years ago. Doesn't mean it was a $5 book. Heck, 5 years ago (or whenever the Inhumans picked up) I was selling VG type copies of FF 47, one of the most common books of that era, for $20.
  15. the #1 is a pretty cover not in their usual style, but the book is pretty expensive as a reprint that came out after the first few issues came out, so they probaby printed a few
  16. OH, I meant all the original art from the issue. I withdraw my offer.
  17. this might just be my old self deluding my brain in assuming something popular in the 80s could catch on now. i offered some of these to my kids to read and they looked at me like i was insane. young people might not be willing to picking up a new "thing," in which case the media moguls might decide this is a movie/show that never needs to be made. The Pinnis are old, they just might give up. they are makin an "audio movie"... that is sure to fail. this is visual stuff.
  18. do you have any sense of what the print runs on 2, 3, 4 (1st print) were? is the low census in part due to folks perhaps not feeling they'd be making their $ spending $30+ on a slab? is there something about these that are going to make 9.6+ super hard? or were these just well loved, well read books? i ask because #2 , #3 are attractive high quality looking books, you'd think they'd print a decent number
  19. FQ 1 does not look bad for the era. Looks higher quality than Cerebus. I guess they didn't like it being all newsprint? Obviously the colors pop a lot better on what they put out later. A lot of folks outright misrepresenting later Elfquest 2 prints as 1sts...
  20. seriously, yes, i just looked for machine man 19 the other day and now machine man 7 is hot I go through a misc box and pull the stuff that got hot, but in another week or two there are more books on the list!! most of the big marvel titles are at least separated by character, mostly, but the misc stuff is spread out over 15+ boxes. and DC, forget it, i only separated out Batman at this point. and x-men is every mutant book except wolverine and deadpool, so it is like 6 boxes... ditto all my spidey titles... and they aren't in chron order yet
  21. what is sabrina doing with her arms? that hat on her head is weird. is this the first appearance of side boob in archie?
  22. so the cover depicts something that definitely did not happen in the reprints inside?
  23. A cgc 9.6 sold for $150 within the last 2 years, I believe. A 9.2 for under $70 about a year ago. I never pull the trigger on stuff when it interests me the first time. I know I was thinking about getting a nice copy, but $150 seemed like big money! Now it seems like nothing.
