Amazing Spider-Man Collecting Thread!
JohnH19 replied to Point Five's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
At least you didn't do it! The book still looks very nice. -
I also posted these in the 10 cent thread. No. 127 actually came out in December 1958 but it has a 1959 cover date.
-
I have it at 4.5-5.0. Beautiful book!
-
I agree with 3.5.

I just traded emails with the owner of my LCS. He’ll take it back. Thanks for your comments, guys!

The top copy was purchased from my LCS on Saturday as an "upgrade" for the bottom one. I'm not so sure that it is an upgrade, though. The bottom copy is nicer except for the tape pull on Molten Man's shoulder. Thankfully, it isn't on the black. The only other notable flaw is the white spot close to the spine. It's centered perfectly, the edges and corners are nice, and the cover is smoother and slightly glossier. The top copy has that diagonal crease that would be helped by a press, the bump at the top corner, creasing along the top and bottom, it's off-center, and the staples are on the back cover which creates gutter loss in the second half of the book. Despite all of that, it's still a nice copy of the notoriously delicate 28. Which one do you all think is the keeper? Is the tape pull the deciding factor? How much does a tape pull affect the grade? Thanks all!

28 on the 28th. The top copy was purchased from my LCS on Saturday as an "upgrade" for the bottom one. I'm not so sure that it is an upgrade, though. The bottom copy is nicer except for the tape pull on Molten Man's shoulder. Thankfully, it isn't on the black. I didn't even notice it when I bid on it on eBay a few years ago. I'm also going to post them in the PGM thread to get some more opinions. -
Crazy Eights - top 75 from the Marvel Silver Age
JohnH19 replied to Black_Adam's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I’m guessing that Hulk 1 didn’t sell very well creating a small supply pool today. I base that on the original run only lasting six issues before cancellation. -
Three beautiful Curt Swan covers. Issue 127 hit the spinner racks the month I was born, along with Flash 105 and Batman 121. Unfortunately I don’t own those two.

I’m not a big FF collector but I do have 45-51, the 2006 facsimile edition of 52, and 53. I may go for the 44-67 run at some point but I have the Masterworks and Omnibus books that cover from 1-200 so I’m in no rush.
-
I actually meant the Flash 105 but spinner racks are cool, too!

105 hit the spinner racks the month I was born. I would love to have one.

I was 8 when I got 39 and 40 as part of my Hall’s Book Store haul in the summer of ‘67. I had just discovered Marvel a week or so earlier, after two years of reading nothing but DC, and these two issues literally rocked my world. What an incredibly dramatic story line! -

Very nice. I love that cover for two reasons: 1. It’s just plain beautiful. Romita created many classic covers but this one is a tremendous combination of colour and drama. 2. It’s the first 12 cent Spidey I ever bought. I got it off the spinner rack at Bigelow’s Pharmacy. -
Looks pretty nice. Is it out of the bag?You might get more opinions if you post it in the “Please Grade My...” thread.

A Romita classic. This is my recently purchased upgrade from local Winnipeg legend Doug Sulipa. Doug graded it as a 7.0. -
A double cover of one of the best ever! How cool is that!

My 13 has a badly faded cover. I’m hoping to purchase a mid-grade upgrade from my LCS in the next couple of weeks. -
