  1. So, no then. Doesn't look like it. I can say, having worked as a picture framer for 15-odd years, buy one that is designed for use with artwork, paper, etc, rather than one designed for t-shirts, linen, heat transfer, etc.
  2. Practice on stuff you don't care about. Please.
  3. Grand Comics Database has a fully indexed listing for a hundred or so issues. Value is going to be trickier. You could ask a question on here: A lot of people collect sets of covers from all of the foreign editions. You might get lucky.
  4. Thank you, Darlene. I like picking up these random little lots. These Strange Album things - are made up like the T&P DC Annuals - a bunch of random issues, including covers, bound together in a new wrap - not as exciting as finding a Batman 181 in your Blackhawk Annual, but still pretty good.
  5. Got a nice little French lot from ebay UK - Nice surprise in #235 - not bad for 99p + shipping!
  6. This is the nub of the issue, and where I think we find ourselves in the broader collecting world. This hobby is filled with niches. We find ours warm and comfortable, but most other comic collectors pass by our dark alley without ever knowing there are a bunch of learned nutcases at the end of it discussing pre-printed-pence-variant distribution stamps and suchlike. What I said up there.
  7. I used to work for him & I remember he (& by extension the rest of his team) preferred the whole 'distributed vs non-distributed' terminology, as is evidenced in the UK Price Guides & on his website. There was also a distinct preference for cents copies (stamp or no stamp) over pence.
  8. I'm serious. Your threads are essential reading when I'm at work with nothing to do (or nothing I feel like doing). This is all some big obsessive co-enabling comfort thing, isn't it, really? I just hope you never use your extensive research skills for evil.
  9. Interesting, especially the oblong stamp stuff. I'll deffo go back & read all of this when I get a spare six hours.
  10. These will probably be at the Boston Spa site, not 200 meters from where I am typing this while skiving at my desk. They will be in one of the Automated Storage Buildings (Robots!!), but they would be sent to St. Pancras for your perusal. This is true, however, the Reading Rooms are all closed until December, due to the current lockdown.
  11. Just a little aside - You have all the UK Pence Price Variants of this title, so this is the complete set. 4, 5 & 15 - 38 were never printed as UKPPVs. This happened all the time with these; there are maybe only 2 or 3 runs that you can complete with pence prices. Can't think what they are now... Nitpicking alert!! These aren't technically foreign. They were all printed in the US alongside the cents copies & have a US cents indicia. Apologies if you already knew this.
  12. Mmm. It'll be a let down if it's only a poxy sticker. Keep us posted. Well done, Linda. You're saving me money!
  13. Bumping this thread (though, admittedly, not on purpose). Found a weird one, I think. Cruising ebay UK, as you do, & stumbled across this lot https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Charlton-Comics-Bundle-Of-Silver-Age-Westerns-6-Comic-Books-In-Total/303761040524?hash=item46b991a48c:g:JtAAAOSw9-JfqrFt within which, there is this - which looks odd because of this - I don't recall seeing this format for a Charlton UK Pence Price Variant. My initial thought was that it was a UK reprint, because they are out there & they look broadly similar to the US originals except for size, interior colour, etc. So I went & had a look on GCD to compare a US cents cover Cheyenne Kid 32 with this oddball. Of course, the GCD has no 'British' variant for this issue (I haven't gotten that far in my edits, yet), but they do have this - tried to enlarge, but it doesn't get clearer than that. ...and it's listed as the standard version. I know that's nonsense & I'll correct their listing when I get a chance (plus I'll keep an eye out for a cents copy to scan in), but it raises a couple of questions. Is the big red 9d copy a US printed UKPPV with a different UK pence price? If the price under the over-stamp on the GCD copy is 6d, it implies this. Did Charlton do this more than once, kind of like the handful of Marvel titles that were printed 6p & over-stickered 8p? Has this been discussed here before & I just missed it because, well, 39 pages of Charltons? Can I rationalize 20 quid for the lot just to get my hands on this? Answers on a postcard, please...
  14. A great suggestion for the next thread! I think I've got that beat, but I can't be arsed to dig anything out.
  15. Thanks for thinking of us. Condition on those looks really nice. You can pick them up over here for literally pennies, but not often in such great shape.
  16. Can't beat a bit of Plop! I still say Wally Wood is the king!
  17. UK pence price variants are US printed copies of various comics intended for distribution to the UK. Marvel, Charlton, DC, Archie & Dell/Gold Key all printed these alongside the regular US copies. Marvel was the first to do this in the early 60's. The key thing to remember with these is that they were printed at the same time as the regular US copies, on the same presses, in the same print run. Only the price on the cover is different; the interior is the same, including a US cents priced indicia. These are arguably the first true variants produced at scale in the industry. Check out these threads for the full story. Happy reading!
  18. #3 is especially tough. I have four copies & the highest grade is probably VFN-, if I'm being generous. I'd suggest you try ebay UK, but the Global Shipping Program will basically mug you. I've shipped a few sales to the US (& Europe) for about a quarter of what GSP was charging.
  19. The complete list of UK pence price variants, for DC, Charlton, Archie, Dell/Gold Key, as well as Marvel, looks like someone used a machine gun to decide which issues to include. Many gaps and random inclusions/exclusions. Makes no sense, but it's been exhaustively documented.
  20. filling out my X-Men pence run - very slowly...
