  1. I was thinking of Jack Davis as well. The peanut guy, however- He's all Kirby. That thumb is skinny, sure, but the jawline is textbook.
  2. I think it didn't get called out as a 'color touch' because maybe it's a scrape rather than tippex. It looks to me a little like someone went at it very gently with a razor blade or something. Interesting that it didn't fool CGC into thinking it was a cents copy.
  3. Just a thought that occurred to me while I was waiting for the toaster to pop at snack-time last night... CGC already offer 'special' labels. Could they maybe offer the TTA13 label for Mystic 40 (or Avengers 1 for Mystic 54, or what have you) as a special? It seems to me that collectors interested in acquiring sets of foreign covers might be interested in having their books have matching labels, whereas collectors who like to acquire foreign books in their own right would rather have them labelled to reflect what they actually are, rather than what part of them is representing. I know this would cause problems with the census, but surely there are ways around that. What does anyone else think?
  4. Yeah. This is all wrong. Don't know where to start, basically. I agree completely. Some strange people collect these things, not because they are reprints of first appearances of US characters, but because they are worth collecting in their own right. If I had a Mystic 40 that I wanted slabbing, I'd want it to come back saying 'Mystic 40' not 'TTA 13'. This kind of thing just illustrates a negative aspect of US based collecting: everything has to be some sort of copy of an American original, otherwise no one will want/understand/pay money for it. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
  5. If by "Declared War!" you mean, "Got veeeery lucky!" then, yes. Yes I have.
  6. These just hit the doormat - I don't collect a lot of war stuff, or, at least I didn't until now. I couldn't pass these up though. The condition is really nice & they were dirt cheap.
  7. Ah. Good point. Will do. Though don't hold your breath. These are the first I've seen for probably over a year. Off to do work now. Sigh...
  8. Morning Darlene. These two are up on eBay UK - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203694882969 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203694893858 They're both just outside my preferred price point (for pence price product), or I'd be keeping quiet & hoping you didn't notice them. Or are they yours & you're selling some of your doubles? Enquiring minds & all that... Still, they're the first I've seen in many many moons.
  9. Please, Donna. If you're doing a blog, or some such blather, I'll want to read it.
  10. Yep, Hilda. Got it with a nice Space Family Robinson #19 - Also with a lovely stamp - Also 99p! I look forward to being the only other person to read that.
  11. Found one to match your set above - Too late for a pence copy, but it's got a nice stamp. And only 99p!
  12. I see the A&BC versions of these all the time in the UK. I was thinking about putting together a set. Your pictures decided me. Nice!
  13. Stick 'em on here & ask.. +1 on that.
  14. I only use a couple, but the ones I use, I use a lot. Maybe I should just lurk more.
  15. Yeah. And I kind of think that answers the original question nicely.
  16. That's a tidy little pile, Helga. Snap. I'm still not seeing many, though. I think you might have better saved searches than me. I will, but I'm off for a couple of days, so don't think I don't care. I'm just not paying attention (again). And a toodle-pip to you.
  17. No need to keep looking. You've found the tough one.
  18. You will, Andrea. You know me, always lurking...
  19. Always, Dolores. I like to recognise them both as variants, because of the intent. I've seen 8p variants that look like they've never had the 6p sticker on, so doubtless some were missed in the process. But there are also a ton of the 6p stickered variants out there. Maybe the 6p are a variant of the 8p variant? UK8P6PSV anyone? As are the 20p Marvel Classics Comics #5 & 7. Looks like the same process, too. I'd say it depends on who did the stickering and when. If, as is arguably possible, the same underpaid intern got the cr@p job of 6p-stickering a huge pile of misprinted 8p comics and the job of manually re-stamping a pile of JIM #13 and later the MCC #5 & 7, I'd struggle to see a difference. You're just being fussy. I like it because it highlights the process, or part of the process, at any rate. Agreed.
