  1. Isn't Comic Cellar down there packed with old books and modern keys? Con dealer GoDaddyO's Comics shares a shop with his daughter and I think his stuff is available, at least sometimes. Knowing how big the area is, perhaps these are out of your range.
  2. I don't feel that it's like that six hours north, here in the Bay Area. A lot more stores started to carry back issues and we now have two stores at the north and south edges (Rohnert Park and Los Gatos) that are essentially back issue only shops. I also follow a local flea market hunter on IG and he's constantly finding books there too. You may not like the prices, but the books are in the stores up here. Don't even get me started with how great the supply is in Sacramento, with the behemoth A-1 Comics, numerous other stores, and a new back issue only store up there too.
  3. Lee's Comics will be setting up at the Berkeley show in early November. And yes, that's the same Phil.
  4. The Berkeley Comic Show, giant room of only back issue comics, is Saturday, August 6. It was August that you visited the Bay Area all those years ago, wasn't it?
  5. Looks like we have a shocking 12 vendors who are doing June that didn't do our last show. That has to be a record. Highlights include Steve Wyatt and Elveen's Comics, both coming up from SoCal, plus the return of the board's own SIlverweb, plus new vendor Modesto Comics, who has a shop with good back issues. Big vendors Champion Comics and Heroes will also be returning.
  6. Agree with all you guys. I knew this was going to be overspray before I even saw the pics. Makes so much sense.
  7. As Tim just pointed out to me, we have Darick Robertson, just as season two drops of The Boys.
  8. Great answer. Yes, you always get less as a set.
  9. Hi everyone--Tim and I are excited to not only get back to it on June 18, but announce our dates for the rest of the year. We will do our traditional August and November shows on August 6 and November 5. June 18 will have possibly a record number of vendors including some returning for the first time since the pandemic. We're also happy to have superstar artist Darick Robertson lined up for the show. www.berkeleycomicshow.com
  10. Just heard this too and I totally agree. What a talent.
  11. Thanks for the answer. That's pretty amazing. I realize that I must've seen one of them as I had the Shaun Cassidy/Hulk issue as a kid which I see has the final installment of the Star Wars comic story.
  12. How many pages is that story? First issue I ever bought was 7 or 8, probably after seeing the movie a bit late. I think I had the full story, so if it was 8 I was able to scour the local spinner racks and find a 7 that hadn't been returned yet.
  13. I think both you guys are right--I have read various things about the number of books "allowed" to be published per month by Marvel before the agreement came to an end in 1968 and noticed the discrepancy in # of issues per month. Seems somewhat variable. I assume the dropping of the romance books in 1963 is due to wanting to ride the superhero wave more, which gave them room in the schedule to do Avengers and ASM and X-Men and Daredevil. Or move some superhero titles from 6 or 9 times a year to 12. Clearly, the increasing sales were in the superhero titles and I assume romance books were declining.
  14. How interesting. I have one of those but did not realize it was considered a 159 variant. I thought of it as just a giveaway promotional comic. Did not realize it's a straight reprint of a Dennis that also had a pumpkin cover.
  15. I went to a show in Detroit in 1985 and Sparkle City had a big stack of them raw, face up on the table for seventy five cents each.
  16. Current vendor list for the upcoming show: A-1 Comics Bronze Age Batcave ComicWeb JCT Comics Kalen’s Collectibles DevCo Comics RJ Collectibles The_Real_Clark_Kent_21 Brett’s Comics Mike’s Comics Plus The Batcave Comics & Toys Worlds of Wonder Harvey Doss Dragstrip Comics Fulton Street Comics Ray Storch Santa Rosa Comics House of Comics Antone Perry Bill McGregor
  17. Heard from a big show dealer that he's making the switch and dropping all big shows and just doing little ones, where he's killing it. More and more one day shows are feeling a bit more old school these days, even if they aren't fully old school like ours and a few others. It also kind of reminds me of what's going on with LPs lately, even sales of new release LPs.
  18. Looked like Wondercon moved up to our traditional first weekend of April date so we are doing March 5. Hope everyone can make it! Same spacious location at the Berkeley Adult School. 11 am to noon early admission $15. Noon to five, $10. Giant room packed with comics. Free parking lots in front and back. Close to the highway and close to BART too. www.berkeleycomicshow.com
  19. There was a great vibe at the show and it was great to see Harley. Dealer lineup for March 5 is looking very sharp.
