  1. One thing to keep in mind is that a $500 asking price for something originally $100 is really no different (markup percentage) than a $5 asking price for a comic originally priced $1. If the item has been selling for $200 but they still keep asking for $500, it's still no different than a $1 comic which has been selling for $2, but the seller still wants $5.

It's far more impressive when a $1 (original price) comic sells for $50 than to see a $100 (original price) book sell for $500. A $100 book selling for $200 is really quite boring when you think about it.

  2. GPAnalysis has been splitting out the newsstand and the direct editions for several years for important (or very popular) books. They don't use CGC's newsstand identification, GPA is identifying these by hand.

For example, GPAnalysis for Spawn #1

    CGC 9.8 Spawn #1 Direct Editions = 728 copies recorded in 2023  (93.5%)

    CGC 9.8 Spawn #1 Newsstand = 51 copies recorded in 2023  (6.5%)

  4. CGC will need to fix their public CGC Census immediately. @MattM CS

All of the "CGCxJSA" books that I have seen are being reported in the CGC Census under the details of the Restored label.

Unless they've selected the worst possible books to start the program (restored AND signed), these new "CGCxJSA" labels need to be identified as "Signature" (unwitnessed, or whatever is necessary), but they're not Restored in any way.

Beavis & Butthead #1 has never had a Restored copy:

Until now... they've got CGCxJSA in there:

So are those cards that came with the magazine worth anything today? Asking for a friend

    -bc

Nope, hundreds of thousands of anything add up to very little value individually, even 30 years later.

If anyone's interested, the monthly Wizard Top Ten lists (1991 to 2010) are archived on WizardTopTen.com :gossip:

It’s kind of sad how variant covers completely took over around 2000.

Comic books have always been about 10 years behind sportscards.  "Variant" cards took over in the early 1990s (limited "chase" cards), so it's actually right on time that we'd see variant comics switch from the content of the books to the "limitedness" of the covers around 2000.  Sad, but true.

When he would hike his prices 50% and then run his 60% off sale you could get some good deals

This is a fun bit of math, for those who would rather read about it than do it.

You might think "up 50%" and then "60% off" would result in 10% off... but...

If the original price is $100, then "hike his prices 50%" means the new price is $150.

"Then run his 60% off sale" takes $90 off the price and the result would be $60, for a book originally priced $100.

"hike his prices 50% and then run his 60% off sale" results in 40% off the original price. (:
