Adventure 40 - first Sandman and a rare book.  hm

Sandman from New York World's Fair 1939 says "What?!?" :whatthe:

Thought of that one, but also thought someone might counter with New York World's Fair 1. Maybe.

    lol

  2. I tried doing this list a few years ago based on the "Most Submitted to CGC" but the majority of 1 - 100 were Amazing Spider-Man and it wasn't very interesting.  Identifying "interesting" books like Albedo #2 or Whiz #2 makes more sense than just setting #2 to Wolverine Limited Series #2 (1982) because it has been submitted most often.

    Enjoy!

  3. That's very strange because the CGC Census does not have any graded copies of Terminator #12 Newsstand Edition.  The only way that slot would work for the CGC Registry is that they're checking the Pedigree information for the "Newsstand Edition" notation which isn't on the CGC Census (yet).

So he already had Extremis DNA in addition to Groot's DNA mixed with his own before that final episode.

I think I missed it--how did he have some of "the Harvest," but not all of it?  Was that addressed at some point?

I think he was told that he was getting "the Harvest" from one of the earlier Skrull raids/heists but it wasn't the full Harvest. Fury had hidden the real Harvest and so Gravik first only had the "decoy DNA" that only contained a couple of other known powers, not the full set. I'm not sure though, maybe the Skrulls went to the Infinity War/Endgame battle field(s) and did their own dirt-DNA extractions.

He took the Hulk out of my hand and said "Ok, we're done here.  You insulted me."  So I insulted him by pointing out the facts?

    ...

I tried again to smooth things over, but he was determined to act the petulant child, so I left him and moved on.  The next time this show was held in 4 months, the same guy was there and he didn't even remember me.  So, I am no longer banned apparently, but would never ever try to deal with this guy again.

In other words, he gets called out for his overpricing so often, he can't possibly remember all the people who are smarter than he is. You remember what happened that one time because you're NOT a d-bag. He doesn't remember it because it's an everyday occurrence for d-bags.

  6. I watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure when I was 10, and my daughter was 10 when we watched Pee Wee's Big Holiday.  I recommend "Big Holiday" to anyone who is a fan of "Big Adventure". It seems to combine the nostalgia with the campiness really well. I read that "Big Holiday" was a sequel to "Big Adventure" or "Big Top", but that's not what it's like in the storyline. "Big Holiday" features a Pee Wee who has never left the shire his tiny hometown.

Thank you all for the comments recently re: Wolverine LS. I dropped by a couple of LCS's today and one of them put out a high grade set of #1 US newsstand, #2 CPV, #3 direct, #4 CPV at a very reasonable price so I snagged them. I look at it that the mentioning of the books here ended up creating the opportunity at my LCS. (thumbsu

Looking at the condition, I think it must be from the same collection as the Joes I snagged last year with a bunch of nice CPVs including #21.

I wish that a Wolverine Limited Series CPV set was possible but sadly, #1 CPV doesn't exist. That's an opportunity Marvel missed... 40 years later. :kidaround:

It's still to early to know what the long-term market will look like, but so far in 2023, there have been 69 sales of CGC 9.6 (or higher) Amazing Spider-Man #300 direct edition and 8 sales of CGC 9.4 (or higher) Amazing Spider-Man #300 newsstand.

Prices tend to reflect a combination of grade and "ease of replacement" (or availability, or frequency of sale, etc.), so the CGC 9.4 newsstand is harder to replace (appears less frequently in the market) but it is lower grade... if the price is the same, there's currently a balance of some kind. Long-term, if I had to bet, I'd bet on the one that's available only one-in-every-ten sales (at that grade or higher) since there is only 0.2 grade difference (9.4 newsstand (or higher) being only 10% of that total market of possible choices).

If you were asking about ASM #361, I'd say 9.6 direct edition over 9.4 newsstand, but this is ASM #300 and the numbers (so far) are very different.

FYI: The 90-day average price for CGC 9.4 ASM #300 newsstand is $900. The 90-day average price for CGC 9.6 ASM #300 direct edition is $1,190.

But looking forward, there is a ton of newsstand books out there, that will need to be resubmitted to gain the slab notation, and :wishluck: inclusion in your database.

For the numbers coming from the CGC Census, we know that books were not identified correctly all the time... but for numbers coming from @gpanalysis identification of newsstand and CPV, we're not relying on CGC's labels.

I was sure that I nicknamed this character "Weaparation H" when it came out, but I can't find the post... so here it is 6 years later...

If the laughter died out six years ago, I understand.

    Yes, you did.

Awesome! I tried both the board's search engine and Google, with no luck.

No one gets that excited about 80's newsstand copies.  They are not the rarities we see in the modern era.

Mid 80's is all about CPV's, and price variants for rarities.

There's not going to be a "catch-all" answer using dates or types, especially for high grade copies.

Newsstand on Thor #337 (1983) is the most common, Direct Edition Thor #337 is second, and the "rarest" is Canadian Newsstand Thor #337 (75 cent cover).

Newsstand on Wolverine #1 (Limited, 1982) is the least common, Direct Edition Wolverine #1 is the most common, and Canadian Newsstand does not exist.

We're still going to be dealing with a "depends on the book" situation, even after everyone learns to recognize the differences by sight.

As an example I have two Miles Morales keys that I'm interested in -

    1. Ultimate Comics All New Spiderman 1 (Cover A) CGC 9.8 - approx $1100

    2. Ultimate Comics All New Spiderman 1 (1:15 Pichelli unmasked variant) CGC 9.6 - approx $1100

Since this topic is from April 2022, it might be interesting to to update the choices with July 2023 outcomes:

    1. Ultimate Comics All New Spiderman 1 (Cover A) CGC 9.8 - approx $1100 (April 2022) - 90 Day Average Sale Price (July 2023) $602

    2. Ultimate Comics All New Spiderman 1 (1:15 Pichelli unmasked variant) CGC 9.6 - approx $1100 (April 2022) - 90 Day Average Sale Price (July 2023) $552

    (Board Discussion Suggestion) Ultimate Fallout #4 CGC 9.6 - approx $1100 (April 2022) - 90 Day Average Sale Price (July 2023) $677

People with more knowledge may try and tear your post apart but I see many more newsstand copies for sale on Ebay than direct.

GPA has been identifying newsstand vs. direct edition for Amazing Spider-Man #252 for a couple of years.

CGC 9.8 has been 50% newsstand and the lower grades have been in the 60% to 70% newsstand range... more newsstand than direct editions.

This is definitely a book that collectors hoarded the newsstand copies when they arrived. They also survived in Canada quite often, the 75 cent cover is not uncommon (but it is the lowest percentage of the three types).

ASM #252 is very different from ASM #300, which has only 5% CGC 9.8 newsstand to around 20% for CGC 9.2 newsstand and the 50% newsstand point is somewhere around CGC 7.5.
