  1. But I mean, if they are no longer listed as an authorized dealer, they technically aren't supposed to be submitting books for customers. Which means if they continue to accept books now, they're technically unable to procure sigs for those new customers as they're unlicensed so to speak. I suppose they could still get sigs and just claim it's for themselves. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what it means to be an authorized dealer.
  2. I wonder, if this is true and they've been using money from current customer to pay CGC bills for older customers...what happens to those who paid upfront but Paradise is unable to procure signatures for them? (this is all theoretical) I really hope you guys left negative feedback on their various social media platforms to save future customers from the same headache you've had to endure.
  3. That blows. Thanks for the tip. On a side note, I really wish eBay made the Blocked User list more accessible. I shouldn't have to dive so deep into my settings just to get to it.
  4. He's on the cover of issue #4. http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Venom_Lethal_Protector_Vol_1_4
  5. Is it hard to set up a UPS/FedEx account? I figured I don't have enough packages to warrant going this route. If I recall, it is the only choice unless you have a UPS or FedEx account. Personally, I'd much rather create some sort of USPS account and have it shipped 2 day Priority Mail.
  6. Here's the sub-forum where grade requests/opinions are posted. I think you can ask a mod to move your post there. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/ Also, I think the blurry shots of the edges aren't of much help. I think birds eye view of the book and corners with proper lighting will probably be more helpful. Oh, and pictures of the back as well. I'm not a grader, but at the very least, way to find a copy with with great cover alignment. This book had notoriously misaligned covers.
  7. Not saying this is the case, or defending the seller, but I had something shipped from Canada recently. A tracking number was provided, but it did not show up on the Canada Post or USPS sites. After a week, I reached out to the seller who called Canada Post and was informed that items entering the US were slowed down by US Customs or some such. The seller had to go down to the Canada Post office, likely to instill in them that the books needed to get sent urgently. All in all, the books finally arrived. It's entirely possible you had a similar situation here. The lack of communication from the seller might have been the true culprit (though, the one month lag certainly seems longer than warranted).
  8. A. It's too late to announce the change, but maybe if enough people voice opposition to this position, maybe they'll go back to the old way and re-think their strategy. B. These may be their boards, but other than to keep things clean, prevent spamming, prevent discussion about other grading companies, it's possible they don't pay too much attention to the topics. I mean, there are a lot of useless topics that we bring up that don't relate to them, so it's understandable. But in the case in which I called CS, the lady seemed surprised as though she was hearing what I was bringing to her attention for the first time, despite the fact that it's something I've seen mentioned a few times on these boards. So I'm not really sure how much of what is said/suggeted here makes it to Sarasota.
  9. If you have an issue with CGC, I strongly suggest you call AND write management. I spoke with a CS rep regarding a separate issue and based on what I was told, it seems that they don't receive all that many complaints. The majority of requests are related to accounting or information about submission status. I'm also not sure how much they patrol the boards and take what is said here into account. (Granted, a CS rep is probably less likely to surf the web searching for issues. I'm sure some other internal employees does that). That said, it might behoove the board to go the GotG cast route: have someone write up a well thought out letter detailing the issues and perhaps provide some suggestions. At the bottom of the letter, have all boardies sign with their name on account and/or board name like a petition. Have each boardie email the same signed letter to CGC and request it be sent to a manager.

  11. Yeah, most of my slabs are yellow label, so I like the fact that they're authenticated. My few blue labels are old keys. Personally I think if you're buying a book of value, you want a blue label (vs a raw book in mylar) to ensure grade, quality, original (ie non-restored). If you have moderns that are of some reasonable value that you just intend to hold in your collection, mylar all the way. The only purpose of sending a book off for a blue label in my opinion is to assign a grade to it for resale purposes.
  12. Wow. Books were shipped lightning quick. Great communication, fantastic packaging. Would buy from again. Thanks!
  13. That is a considerably better trailer than the first one.

Yowza! That plus the 36 days for Modern grading means you're looking at 91 business days. Nevermind the fact that Registered shipping takes another week. Almost makes you want to just plop down the extra money to FastTrack it.
  15. Is anyone aware of any upcoming Daniel Acuna signings? What about Ta-Nehisi Coates? I suspect that since his primary focus is more news media and literary based that he probably doesn't make any appearances on the convention circuit.
  16. Well, as far as packaging goes, this was a first. Bagged, boarded, and tissue wrapped. With sparkles. And in the off chance this came from a boardie who does business on The Bay, the wrapping was a nice touch.
  17. God, at least the facilitator had the presence of mind to A) limit the number of signings a day and B) stop the signing. The old guys would have just let him go on with complete disregard for his well being so long as they were bringing in the money.
  18. Coming soon to the Modern Sales Thread...Artboy99 lists almost 1000 copies of ASM #800 @ 50% off cover price.
  19. That's the first time I've seen Pom's signature. It's kinda unique to the point that I now kinda want a signed/slabbed book for no other reason than her signature looks cool. https://imgur.com/p1qIhbf
  20. I have a 9.8 signed by Stan Lee and I plan to get Jim, Chris, and Scott before all is said and done. People like knowing that their books are touched and signed by their favorite creators. And on such a nostalgic cover to boot. I've reached a point where i would rather have some cheapo book with a nice looking cover signed than to ruin a major key with far lower print run and even fewer available copies in high grade. In that regard, X-Men #1 v2 is the perfect book to have signed. Certainly more so than X-Men #1 v1 in even a mid-grade. (That said, I probably have some signed keys at CGC waiting to get graded and sent back to me, but those were sent in months ago before I've had this change of heart. )
  21. I think people misunderstood me (though re-reading what I wrote, I can understand where the confusion is). I didn't say or mean to imply that appearances are unimportant. I just merely meant that where I prioritize appearance as far as what is most important to me, the other two qualities (authentication of yellows, and preservation) rank higher. It's like asking how I prioritize the Captain America movies. I could say Civil War and Winter Soldier are the two best, but just because The First Avenger is ranked last doesn't mean I hate the movie. That said, you're right about not knowing whether their current materials/methods will stand the test of time and that's why I said "or at least I hope it will in 30 years time".
  22. If there are, I haven't heard of it. There are more people who want a signature than there are people interested in getting it slabbed. They leave far more money on the table by catering solely to people looking for slabs, than they do general fans who care more about the signature and the experience of meeting said creator. As such, I think it would be far more likely for a creator to refuse their signature be slabbed (a la Byrne) than the other way around.
  23. You can still feel ripped off even if nothing illegal occurred. For example, you could go eat a $300 dinner, but maybe that's not your cup of tea. Maybe you didn't enjoy the meal as much as you thought it would. You might argue that you could have gone to a local restaurant for $20 and enjoyed your food more. In that sense, you might feel ripped off over your $300 meal. And I think that's what this is. You have 2 sets of people paying for effectively the same service (a signature), but they're being charged two different prices. I think part of it is some confusion in how the creators handle it or word their rates. They're writers and artists...not CPA's. I would have fewer qualms if they just said "CGC signing rates are $50, but you get to apply the $20 credit that is baked into the price of the book already." At that point, they're forthright about the charges. For JSC to say you're paying a $30 CGC signing fee and then to literally do nothing but hand you the book, is where it falls apart logically for me. I guess what i'm saying is, is that it could be framed better. Beyond that, it becomes a matter of should creators have any right to know what you intend to do with your book as RockMyAmadeus has pointed out. Frankly, I agree with RMA, the transaction between you and the creator ends at the signing. What you choose to do with the book afterwards should be of no relevance to them. The point he makes about celeb signings is an excellent one. They charge one flat rate and don't care if they're signing a napkin, a comic, or a Blu-ray slip case. They also don't care if you're selling it or authenticating it.
  24. I didn't realize this was such a hot topic in the past, but now I'm gonna be a little disappointed if it doesn't go full blown Thunderdome like others have alleviated. C'mon boardies, don't disappoint me on a Friday. EDIT: some music to set the tone...
  25. Ah, I don't know how much silver age books are worth, but I can't imagine copies of Gold Key's Star Trek, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., or the Green Hornet being worth enough to warrant 3 full backs in my particular case.
