  1. I was following that listing when you posted it last, just for fun. I'm not going to say anything bad about neat stuff.  I think I got my ASM #1 CGC 3.0 from them decades ago, and likely bought other stuff from them back then too.  But I hear what you're getting at.  Wonder if there is feedback from the buyer of the prior auction.  Fun story to watch, if nothing else.

  2. Gotta love it when a Lone Star box arrives in the morning!  3 new modern books arrived.

First up is one for the Hobgoblin run, ASM #696.  Man, McNiven really creepified both Hobgoblins for this run for covers!  I'm in it for the Kingsley app (I'm just bypassing Phil for the moment) but it's a cool layout on this one:

Next up is the 1st new Electro, Francine Frye (I love that name)!  Any Ross cover is a darn good cover!

Last up is a Hallows' Eve variant to #1 I picked up because it wasn't too much.  Black Cat?  I'm in!

  3. Ok, Not the sexiest of ASM issues, but it's the 1st appearance of Red-9!  Cool Spidey spotlight cover.  He uses that flashlight more on the covers than he does in the books!  :p  I like the 1st app, plus with all of the Hobgoblin covers I have been getting some of the ones in between.  I now have 19 between 259-289 (#20 on the way, stay tuned!).  Here's ASM #264:

Great book.  Back in the day, I always wanted a high grade copy that was reasonable priced.  Never found one I liked.

Thanks!  Since I had one I never really looked at the census before on this book.  As to be expected, there aren't many high graded copes.  After taking out the 5 restored in 9.4 only 6.85% are higher than 9.2 with 3 lowly 9.8's.

    Near Mint/Mint 9.8 3 0.20%
    Near Mint + 9.6 11 0.73%
    Near Mint 9.4 89 5.92% 6.85%
    Near Mint - 9.2 161 10.70%

So I guess they are out there, just not "that" many.  Good luck if you're still looking!  (thumbsu

  5. I've been into 1st appearances lately, and this one has 2!  We've got the Humbug (hey - he could drive Venom crazy!) and in the background we've got Solo!  Sure, Solo looks like a purple Dr. Manhattan but that's not his real look.  Plus eventually he gets one of the best tag line ever, "Where he lives - terror dies!"  :D  I really dig this cover too.  These early Web of covers kicked butt!  Here's Web Of Spider-Man #19:

Finally bagged a nice copy of the 1st Edition (PBO) of "Reefer Club" by Luke Roberts. Uni-Books No. 49, 1953 with the iconic Warren King cover.

One of the toughest of the US drug books, it's compounded by being a "Uni-corn" with any kind of complete cover due to the paper thin covers. It has a nice chip off the back but still the nicest looking copy I've seen for sale in 7 years of looking.

This completes the USA "Reefer Trifecta", along with "Reefer Girl" and the 2nd (Canadian actually) Edition under the Stallion imprint, re-using the censored version of the cover from "Basement Gang" :whee:

Seeing as how this is a theme here, I thought I'd share this here too.  I just saw this on TMC between movies.  It's about 10 min, "the Terrible Truth!" Hysterical!

I recently picked these three copies of Fight #59 & Kaanga #12 &#15. The colors pop on these, especially Fight #59.  I've seen that particular copy be almost washed out before, so I snagged it when I saw how bright the reds were on this one.  The Kaanga's speak for themselves. Two very curvy girls that are easy on the eyes.

That Fight cover is of of my favorite in the run! You're dead on about the color though, but you got a good one!

  8. 1 new one to add to the Hobgoblin run.  Upon getting this one I really had to go through my registry set.  I had prepared for the first 100 or so appearances, but with books this recent I really had to go back and re-order the appearances over the last decade.  Not that I have them all (YET!) but I've got a list so when I get one I have a slot prepared.  Anyway, here's Miles Morales SS v2 #16:

  9. Hello all.  Yes, I know the "bug" is still being worked on but I found a temporary hack last night.

Like most of you (I assume) I'd go to add a competitive set here and get that error:

    image.png.bda7b47dfdffdc4f2ba9ea0d555e1315.png

Instead, go here and find the set you want to create.  In this case I wanted to make a Darkhawk set so I went here and chose D:

    image.thumb.png.95e76ebce0bd0a438f37667dc03d9865.png

Then I just found Darkhawk and it got me here.  Then clicked on the "Create a Set button" and it worked!

You can add in new books or it can auto populate in this set takes books from other sets.  It's all good!!!

There is 1 downside though.  You can't name your set or add a description to it.  I tried to save these aspects a few times but no dice.  However you can add books and worry about the set names later.  They'll end up looking like this:

    image.thumb.png.ba0190efca82fa41b16d9cd90c8fea91.png

So there ya go!  Hope this helps!

I'll @jstam just to make sure he gets this and can notify the developers.

  10. I posted this one in the new in my collection thread, but not here.  I didn't even realize it was a NS copy until it arrived.  :)   As @Qalyar pointed out to me, with the UPC on the back it may not be found in many collections if copies are in B&B's.  Plus it's likely not that big of an ordered book, as it's mainly a recap book meant to feed into the clone craziness, so kinda rare.  Likely not a big $ book, but it's cool!  :D  Love the wrap cover too!

This checks nearly all the boxes to be a really hard book to find as a NS. After the peak of NS distribution had passed? Although certainly not a post-2000 distribution diehard, I don't think anyone would argue that direct market copies weren't dominant by '95. Way, way off the main-line titles? Check, I'm not sure I ever knew this flashback-y one-shot book ever existed at all. UPC box on the back, where no one will see it on a bagged and boarded book? Very much check.

And in 9.8 to boot. Congratulations.

Books like this aren't necessarily worth magical Christmasland FMVs, but trying to find them on purpose is another story entirely.

Thanks! I really couldn't care about the NS aspect, I'm just happy to get any copy. The NS is a fun aspect, and I didn't think about the UPC on the back thing! Good pickup.
