  1. Great pickups. Did Cole do anything inside on that book or just the editing? I have always been curious about that. I know he published another line that, I think called "Persuit" but I don't own either. Oh, so did the cover on Web?
  2. 4.0. It's that back cover that will really hurt. It'll look great in a slab or mylar from the front tho!
  3. This. Let whoever owns it next have the option to flip through it and smell the nostalgia or slab it.
  4. If it was just those $1 bin dings I could see a 7 or 7.5, but with that sticker / glue issue I can't see it higher than a 6.
  5. I'm looking at a 4 for this one. I'll take it! I still have a bit of ground to make up for after 1 bad guess in round 1.
  6. This would have been awesome. If Disney can't make $ on it, then no dice. Great thought though!
  7. FYI - This just went on sale. If you've never seen a Taschen book you're missing out. I have a handful, not this one, but I've heard great things about it. https://www.taschen.com/en/books/comics/01152/marvel-comics-library-spider-man-vol-1-1962-1964/?utm_campaign=whs_2023-01_flash-1_spiderman&utm_source=tas&utm_medium=nl
  8. Gotcha. "TO ME GOOGLE!" The edited cover is still the best. Quick search turned up a few images, Cole covers... that aren't Cole. Here's what I found...
  9. Well put. Isn't that a Mexican edition or something? Put it in with Contact 12, Cap'n Flight 11, & Cap'n Aero 26 - throw them all in a room and let them fight it out!
  10. Cool. This reminds me of Shel Silverstein's "Prayer of a Selfish Child" “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my toys will break. So none of the other kids can use 'em.... Amen.” ― Shel Silverstein, A Light in the Attic
  11. Seeing as how it's one of the few Cole comic covers I don't own, I'll have to disagree with you. If / when I get one I'll then change my mind.
  12. Just a bump because it was brought up. I think I have one of these... I'll have to dig through my boxes....
  13. Looks much better! I think it went from a 4.0 to a 5.0.
  14. Congrats! This one took me a while for some reason. Next time I start scanning I'll dig out my cover proof for it. Cool cover!
  15. Whoa... Not me! You've all seen my copy. That one is sweet though!
  16. Sadly, it's not mine. It's one of the CP's they made and then never published. Here's another one I'd kill for... https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/weird-jungle-tales-202-cover-proof-star-publications-1953-condition-nm-this-extremely-rare-item-is-for-a-comic-that-w/a/808-4802.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515
  17. Man, many of those books ended very low. I know some aren't the most sought after covers but many of those were deals. Thanks man. If I can find a way to display them all at once that would be awesome. I'd likely have to take over my daughter's room, but she's only 4 so she can't put up too much of a fight... ;) So, cover proofs..... What companies do (or did, and what Cole did often and keep them) was they'd have the printing company print off a copy of the cover to an upcoming comic - just the cover before printing. So they are on slick, thin, slightly glossy paper and the colors really shine. It was to get an idea of what the cover would look like before actually going to print. Sometimes they would make more than 1 per issue and sometimes they'd end up making some of books that never got printed. There are a few of these you can find on the net or in the Cole Blacklight book. Cole kept many of these in his files and many of them went up for auction around a decade ago. Search ComicConnect and you'll find them. I actually have a few pre-printed versions of modern comics that served the same purpose but are a bit different. So companies still do similar things, they just aren't as cool.
