These are more of a back in my collection as they just made it back from CGC today from the Terry Austin signing.  3 will have to go back due to issues. Luckily the book I cared the most about went through perfectly and I could not be happier! :cloud9:

Now the others. This has a bubble/debris on back inner well that is casing a dimple on the book.

the. These two. One is a Double Cover they missed (no excuse it was clearly marked) The other is signed on interior page by Terry Austin and John Byrne.  (Again was clearly marked ) thought it would be noted writing and get the hybrid Green/Yellow.

you can see the way that I marked these and pictures of the interior signatures / double cover here.

Wonder why they didn't recognize the Byrne signature on the second book cover? Could it be they suspected it wasn't authentic?

The signatures on the inside wouldn't necessarily mean it gets a green label. I have a couple of blue label slabs with inner sigs notated on label.

I always insist on paying using G & S, even if I have to pay an extra 3%. Also, what I do is try to find out if the seller has a brick and mortar store. If the seller does have a store, I either call or email the owner. I usually ask for 13% off, as that is the cost of Ebay fees for the seller.

Sometimes they have an Instagram account with the same name as on Ebay. I found that out after the fact on a pricey book I foolishly paid way more than I could have. Would of been nice to just avoid the tax.

  3. Okay so anyone interested in some Sinnott FF love here's a chance for a great looking 9.2! This barely has a tick on it. I have a 9.4 that doesn't look as clean as this! The back cover looks great as well.

And if it wasn't "improved"....and just sent back in for a review and received an upgrade with the same cert #.....doesn't that mean the original submitter received a major screw job by CGC?

Well checking the thread in the GA forum, someone posted the sub dates of the original two 8.0s. One was subbed July 2001 the other December 2014. I would guess this was the 2001 copy since it's a Church. If it is then maybe not too surprising the grade would change.

Btw as an aside, I read an 8.0 copy (maybe this one) was sold in 2009 for as much as a million. Anyone know more about this? At any rate, I think there's "the Dentist's" copy of Sup 1 still out there sitting raw?....this kind of puts a new light on that unless it was submitted!

Ok. I don't know if I'm late to the party here, but it looks like the book in question is the Mile High 8.0 SUPERMAN #1, which traded hands in January for a price of $5.3 million USD. I'll attach a couple screen shots of the article. Both buyer and seller want to remain anonymous, though the brokers for both parties are named in the article.

They probably didn't disclose what book it was because this was resubmitted in January and was upgraded to an 8.5 while keeping the same cert #.

Congratulations to the buyer and sellers!

Interesting how this keeps a blue label despite the CT. Just wondering how many SA BA books with the same pin size CT are currently in purple labels??? Curious if it depends on what book it is and who submits it?

The resubmiter either had assurances or had the biggest set of cojones in the world!

The color breaking creases on the top staple and corner breaking crease on top right corner. Not to mention the cover is uneven with the book. In all honesty, I’m surprised that CGC graded the book with the overhang. Just look at the back cover image.

You cant tell anything from the back cover that isn't clear from the front. It could be overhang but how do you know it's not just a weird production cut at the top?

Could you please tell me what is fugly about this book? I need to learn. 99C09A2A-DF18-4713-A2F3-D7D673A4A792.thumb.jpeg.56408da6ff5c40d7032676594a9a636e.jpeg

I’m just looking at it on my phone so maybe I’m missing something. I see perfect centering and very bright colors. There are a number of small defects including noticeable spine ticks and a distracting crease along the top edge. So I guess the debate is whether those things added up should push the book lower than 9.2.

The suspicion is the top edge might be folded down a little bit. No way of knowing without seeing it from a top angle. It could be a production flaw so who knows? I'd say this copy qualifies as a "tweener" between 9.0 and 9 2, possibly maybe 8.5. This issue is chronically miswraped in both directions and lower than white pages so the good wrap makes it worthwhile. I'd take it in a second!

Always loved that cover. Sure it’s a tiny bit cheesy. But I picture myself at age 10 seeing that on the rack (I’m far too young but I picture it anyway), could I pass on that book? Nope. Nope. No way. That one is going home.

The splash page on that is my favorite splash ever with Sandman reaching over and that giant hand. Curious when you got ahold of your FF1 9.2? Love to read a little more about that...probably never thought it would be worth such an astronomical sum of money when you opened it?

I remember ancient history, back in the olden days before 2021, when we always cautioned each other not to sell in the stagnant, quiet market bracketed by the Christmas shopping season and the the last few days before the arrival of tax refunds. :preach:

The first arrivals of tax refunds are in February. If you mean between late November and mid to late February then yeah makes sense. That convention was thrown out the window in late 2020 early 2021. It might not be the worst thing for a market pullback from the stratosphere to take place. It just sucks when it happens while you got stuff on the auction block.

To, me, most of the key ASM’s are holding steady or increasing (exception = ASM 300).

I don’t really keep track of too many non ASM books, but the ones I do are also on the increase, after a previous 20% drop.

You mean the 20% drop ~ late last year? What do you see with 121 122 129 194? I don't know that I'd be too confident auctioning any of those in top grade these days but not looking in on those every day.

Tap the case on the right side & move the book over

Tapping it like that (for example holding the slab sideways and dropping it lightly against a table) may work to correct pre existing page separation, but attempting that in his case might actually cause page separation. I've tried it once against my better judgement with a book that was positioned too high in the slab without any results. Its just one of those things cgc can hopefully correct! It usually happens with the slabs that have the "side clip" on the back of the slab as I think your IH180 has.

  12. Yes it's a worthy key with reliable staying power. If you're going to go for a big X related key do it now. This market blows on the seller side these days. Clink just had a flop of an auction with GSXM and X94 except for that 9.8 GSXM. Imo the people likely to push the market to 2021 levels are not the people caring about what story is more important. They may not have even thought about reading them at all. They'll care more about order of appearance, that No. 1 on the cover and what crypto is doing. At this point it wouldn't surprise if you could possibly pull off a 9.0 for that money if you find the right auction. So I'd see if I could pull that off before moving on to the high grade 101 even if it means having to save up a little more. GSXM 9.0 > X101 9.8
