The JSA Thread Of All Ages - JSA #1 Out Nov. 29th!
shadroch replied to Cat's topic in Comics General
I was fascinated by the JSA/JLA annual meetups as a kid, even though I'd almost always only find one half of the two parts. Loved the JSA Atom, Hourman, Mr Terrific, and Johnny Thunder. I always wanted to see a Legion/JSA crossover but I'm not aware of it ever happening. -
Anyone else having MAJOR ISSUES WITH COMICCONNECT?

Mycomicshop currently has over 35,000 books on consignment. They have overcome whatever difficulties having such a large operation requires. -
Anyone else having MAJOR ISSUES WITH COMICCONNECT?

Then you have the cost of lost opportunity. When the OP gets his money back in a few weeks, that money won't go nearly as far as it did three months ago. Do this exact scenario a couple of dozen times a year and a business has themselves a floating source of revenue. -

It's a problem every other auction house has somehow managed to overcome. -

Letting people sell on your site without requiring the books be on hand is dumb. -
"VF 7.5", "FN 5.5", etc.
shadroch replied to LiftedAndShifted's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Is that supposed to impress me? Why? I don't use grading companies for most books. It's not worth it to me. I'd rather pay $50 for a book and flip it for $80-$110 in two weeks than tie up my initial capital for months, spend another $40-$50 to get it graded and sell it for $200. Your mileage may vary. -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
shadroch replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I'm surprised how little demand there is for the Gladstone Disney's. They were perennial steady sellers until about ten years ago. I've had success with westerns but thats selling them to Wild West tourists, not normal comic collectors. -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
shadroch replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Most of those books have been dead for decades. Dells, Funny animals and funny comics have not been popular since the early 1960s. I see no reason why that will change. The vast majority of so called comic collectors have always been super-hero collectors. -

How do you find out a print run?
shadroch replied to xxdeadpoolxx's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
SA/BA books published their circulation numbers annually as part of the required ownership requirements. I usually go with the one published closer to the comics cover date. It's important to realize that many comics reported as unsold ended up being sold out the back door. Modern books are easier to find numbers on, but I'm not sure how accurate the numbers are when you get into variants and such things. -
My father did not approve of me reading or collecting comics. He had a very low opinion of them. So when I saw the cover of Daredevil 111 for sale in NYC the week before Christmas in 1978 , I mentioned it as something I would like to get for Christmas but had zero expectations. Christmas comes and when it seems all the presents have been handed out, my Dad " finds" another one and it is the DD cover. My mom had convinced him to drive into the city and buy it from Peter Koch. My Father died on December 28th. I had the cover framed and displayed it wherever I lived for the next decade. In 1988-89, I sold my shop and moved to Puerto Rico. On one of my frequent visits back to NY, I visit my old shop and am shocked to see the cover to DD 111 on display and for sale. I grab the owner and tell him that this is mine and was never intended to be part of the sale of the shop. In fact, I had no idea it was even there. We go back and forth and I end up buying the cover at a discounted price, but not cheap enough that I remained friends with the guy. I take the framed cover to my Moms house, remind her of what it is and put it in an old shipping trunk where I had a lot of stuff. Ten or more years go by and I'm over my moms house when I notice the trunk has been moved. I mean to ask about it but I forget. A few months go by and I'm over my sisters house when she points out her newest reclamation project- she'd taken the old trunk that was maybe 100 years old and re-finished it. I ask her about all the stuff inside but she tells me when she opened it, the stuff on top had mold so she threw it all away. Not only was the art the first Marvel Cover OA that I ever had, but it was one of my favorites and it was the last thing my Dad ever gave me.

He is saying you sold a book that had color touch. It's not an attack on you. No one says you did the color touch. It's a return. Treat it as a return, not a personal attack. F.I.D.O. The only way the basterds win is if you let them.

Design Inspiration Sought…Alternative storage to long boxes?
shadroch replied to TSwift25's topic in Comics General
collectiondrawer.com has some great choices. I mostly use the short boxes because the havy are really bulky. Get the clips and you can make a brick 12 boxes wide and up to six high, with every box being fully accessible. Some of mine are fifteen years old and still holding up fine. They may be pricey but it's a one time purchase. -

Design Inspiration Sought…Alternative storage to long boxes?
shadroch replied to TSwift25's topic in Comics General
That's what I used for years. I had six lateral file cabinets that each held twenty BCW short boxes perfectly. I don't like the quality of the boxes but they are the only ones I found that fit. While these cabinets can retail for over $1,000, I've found them at auction for as low as $10. You should pay no more than $50-$100 on them. I recently sold four for $175. Their biggest problem is they are a pain to move. -
Why? Why should the working man pay taxes on his sweat and blood but you get to make more money tax free? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Your first 25,000 of earned income should be tax free

Marvel To Distribute Direct Via Penguin Random House

Things may very well have changed in the thirty years since I was a Diamond retailer, but back then I got the distinct impression they treated store owners more like unpaid interns than actual customers.
