  1. The Crippen collection first came to light when Metropolis bought some books from a contractor. It wasn't until years later, when the heirs bought some books to Heritage that they discovered the lowlife had plundered some of their fathers books. I think one of the books stolen was an Action 1.
  2. I prefer Omni's as they are easier on my eyes. Even with reading glasses, I struggle to read normal sized comics these days.
  3. Your father evidently knew about CGC but chose to leave most raw. Study the ten graded books you have, until you understand what defects caused the books to get the grades they have. Then start comparing the raw books to them.
  4. It is stuff like this that makes me flinch when someone displays expensive books in their home or shop. There are bad people out there. People with bad intentions. Don't make it easier for them. I'm not saying that happened here, but people have been murdered because they showed off their stuff to the wrong person.
  5. There was some great stuff going on at DC in that period, but also a lot of head scratchers. Death of Supergirl and Barry Allen, Titans, great storyline in Legion that spanned about 15 month that had everyone convinced that Supergirl hadn't died but was the new mystery Legionaire, Allan Moore on Superman, Bolland doing Camelot 3000.
  6. I'm more of a gatherer these days. My hunting days are over. You are forgiven.
  7. Great. Another obscurity I now have to track down. Thanks.
  8. Mycomicshop breaks them into 2 different books. They are currently buying the GC version for half the regular version. Go figure. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=24501068

The one below doesn't. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Avengers-11-Reprint-Rare-In-New-York-Magazine-edition-Rare-Promo-/311953125802?hash=item48a1daf1aa:g:v9IAAOSwmx9ZrXVj
  10. Evidently, some were also inserted in a free magazine hotel guest got in their rooms. Those don't have the GC logo on them. Thanks, and thanks for the book.
  11. Thank You. I see I should have hit the exact match. not the starts with as that gave me far too many results to look through. What's interesting is there is at least one variant . The copy I have has a Grand Central Station logo and the one I saw today doesn't. I guess 15 copies total in the census does make it pretty rare, although I suspect most people don't know it exist.
  12. I'm trying to find a book in the census, that I know has had copies slabbed, without success. Its a reprint of the original Avengers 11 that is sometimes called The Avengers in NY. It was handed out to hotel guest in NY about a dozen years ago. I've seen slabbed copies but a search turns up hundreds of possibilities but no exact match. Any help would be appreciated. Juan( Mr. Highgrade) gave me a copy several years ago and it is in my permanent collection. Just curious on the number graded as I saw one of them in 9.8 listed for $899 today. Owner claimed it was super super rare, which I'm pretty sure it isn't.
  13. The Bat image is much later than the book, and is also after DC routinely reprinted these Batbooks. Can't say anything else about it.
  14. I rarely give a book more than a 9.2. This rates 9.2.
  15. I believe he apprenticed with Chuck Barris in the CIA sponsored Gong Show and is still deep cover in The Agency. Can't think of any other way a guy could disappear so cleanly.
  16. They put out some good quality stuff in their heyday. Their problem was the market hadn't yet evolved into the advance order stage so they just printed what they hoped to sell and were usually overly optimistic. I'd love to know what the print run of their Daredevil Chronicles compared to The Avengers one, for example. I must see two dozen DD ones to one Avengers.
  17. I'm making the switch from long boxes to short, and been ordering them via Amazon from a company called Big Fly. First order went great, as did the second. Ten boxes, ten lids. Third order comes and ten boxes, no lids. Contact Amazon and am told to return product. I explain I can't wait and guy says hold on let me talk to someone. He comes back and says he's issuing a refund and I can keep the boxes. I try telling him that I really need the lids, as well and he tells me to order another ten boxes and I'll get the ten lids I need. As a consumer, I'm delighted that I got ten boxes for free, but as a shareholder I'm annoyed they wouldn't simply send out the ten lids.
  18. I went looking for a guy I saw profiled on Sixty Minutes years ago that had around 300 DWIs, but found this instead. Man Arrested For DUI 400 Times Sentenced To 17 Years NBC5 ^ | December 2, 2003 Posted on ‎12‎/‎2‎/‎2003‎ ‎8‎:‎26‎:‎29‎ ‎PM by Between the Lines ANDERSON, Ind. -- A 74-year-old Anderson man who's been arrested at least 400 times for drunken driving was sentenced Monday to 17 years in prison for his latest drunken driving conviction. Virldeen Redmon was arrested in July for driving even though his license had been suspended for life. His latest conviction was on charges of driving while intoxicated, endangering a person and driving while suspended. Police have been arresting Redmon since 1947, including three times since June. He's had his driver's license suspended for life five times. In 1996, a judge sentenced Redmon to 9-1/2 years in prison. That sentence was reduced in 2001 and he was released after a doctor testified that Redmon suffers from health problems.
  19. I didn't realize they were in business that long. Most of the stuff I sold of theirs, the Indexes and Hembeck stuff was all remaindered lots.
  20. Took three seconds looking at the interior scan. Fool's and their money.......
  21. Thanks. I passed on it. It went for $800 plus 16 %. The next bid was $850, and I'm pretty sure the guy would have gone more.
