  1. In the 70s, I'd get book rate boxes from Hugh O'Kenon. He'd sent a packing slip in a separate envelope because putting one in the box made the whole thing ineligible for book rate, according to him.
  2. I'll defend Chucks right to price his books any way . His bat, his ball. I will never buy from him, nor send anyone there, but who are we to tell him what to charge.
  3. Not comic related, but I picked up a late 1950s self service popcorn machine yesterday. Was taking it apart to store and in the innards were 15 silver dimes. At about $2 each, they'll cover most of my $40 purchase price. By the way, a serving of popcorn in the 1950s was about a third of what you get today.
  4. What percentage of the copies you see have these?
  5. I'll pick them up in a couple of days. The way the auction worked was they auctioned off some 600 lots. Next they add up the total and either of the two surviving children can keep everything by paying the other that amount. That almost never happens. Some of the art and statues went for serious money so I expect the sale will go thru. Also got a nice framed and signed 11 x17 of the cast from Glee. It's one of 150 and a similar one sold for $250. I paid just under $50.
  6. Was at an estate auction today and there was a batch of caricatures of Hollywood stars from 1981-83. Burt Reynolds, Loni Anderson, Danny Devito, and a few others. Googled the artist and he was the cartoonist that did Opus. For a buck a pop, I took them home.
  7. Not sure this is the right spot, but my neighbor has about 200 loose Ral Partha figures from the early 80s until about 1995, he thinks. He'd be interested in selling them as a lot. Are these in demand?
  8. At an auction this week, I got a Sideshow Morgul Lord for $130, two Green Lanterns, a Grifter and a Neca Punisher. Two Graffiti pieces from the 90s, The Vault Keeper and the Old Witch, and a bunch of Funko 2015 exclusives. The Morgul Lord is over the top.
  9. Agreed. I don't get the obsession to visit comic shops while on vacation. I was on the east side of town and thought I'd check out Celestrial Comics yesterday. Turned out it was on the wrong side of a divided six lane roadway. The shop I want to check is the combination comic shop/ tattoo parlor but I tend to sleep late.
  10. It would be nice if the City could rehab the overgrown graffiti ridden monument to the Maryland 400. They might not have been kids from Brooklyn but they fought and died buying time for Geoge Washington to evacuate his army after the Battle of Long Island. Four hundred Marylanders held off some 14,000 Enemy, with 256 of them dying and all but ten of the survivors were wounded and captured. I love Cap, but a Parks Department that can't maintain monuments to real heroes shouldn't be engaging in publicity stunts.
  11. So you are performing with several folks who haven't rehearsed together? Best of luck.
  12. I'd toss in the Conan tryout stories done before they had the rights to Conan.
  13. Dennahy wasn't even born there. He just went to High School there. His mother lived here for many years, I assume he might have as well. He bartended at a spot in the train station plaza for a bit.
  14. I tried to get my former hometown- Mineola, to honor Simon and Kirby among its famous residents but got nowhere. Brian Dennahy gets a plaque but not S&K.
  15. Do the individual books sell for much of a premium?
  16. While I forget the exact figures, we had an email exchange that went like this. Book listed for $75. I offered $55. He responded at $74.50. I offered $60. He offered $74.49.
  17. Anyone have a guesstimate what round trip shipping for 1800 books from NY is going to run?
  18. I hope they film at the real House on the Rock.
  19. Is this guy in the league of Hammer aka Comic Keys?
