  1. So this thread is about the OP scamming PayPal out of their service fees and then complaining about it? The PayPal changes regarding not refunding the fees on a return were announced months ago. And it wasn't exactly fine print. They sent out a dedicated eblast about it. I don't know why anyone, particularly a dealer, would risk their PayPal account being potentially canceled due to not following the terms regarding F&F vs. Goods & Services. 3% is nothing. I frequently offer to make up the difference if a seller balks, particularly someone I haven't dealt with before, just so I can have that Buyer's Protection. You know, the thing that revolutionized online trading and made all of these high prices possible (as @vodoualready pointed out.) I only deal with Goods and Services. It's just not worth the grief to do otherwise. There are times when a wire transfer is fine, but the circle of trust has to be in place and you have to know the other party. Even then, things go wrong outside of everyone's control. That 3% is Peace of Mind. File this under Ridiculous... right next to not covering or arranging for your own shipping. (i.e. sending a label with Signature Required so that Collector's Insurance will cover it.) 5-figure pieces and then people cheap out on logistics and terms... makes no sense to me.
  2. I think no. Most of the same dealers show up to both (except Spencer), but as Rick pointed out, NYCC has a massive Artist's Alley. So for the budding or intermediate collector, you are better off at NYCC. But Nelson's points in favor of the smaller shows are true as well -- particularly the lack of crowds! Gah! I think there is room between October and March -- maybe a Dec/Jan show in NY. That's more open than the crowded Spring season.
  3. Despite being a sequel, this shows OOZES creativity. I absolutely love it (Lube Man!), and if you can't appreciate the level of detail, world-building, symbolism, homage, heart, timeliness, and mystery in this, go burn your comics because not much in there is going to satisfy you either. This is a worthy successor. I can honestly say I'm completely hooked. And a shout-out to a TV dad telling his kids that heaven is pretend. He just saved them a lot of bs and angst in their high school and college years. Ep 4 is setting up some new stuff and advancing the mystery. But Ep3 was mind-blowingly well-constructed. That -script and Jean Smart should win some awards.
  4. I think you hit on a good example with Byrne because his X-Men prices are so sky high. I think you could make find similar examples with some of the other guys who have had really long careers -- hot books/average books, 1st run / 2nd run, etc.
  5. Demon of Gothos Mansion splash. For all you young uns out there, that was considered a good Batman story in the olden days.
  6. I just meant to say that when I am considering a piece to buy, I only research comps for that artist on that particular title/character. In the absence of any examples, I might look at other titles from the same era by that artist. To use your example, I don't think Aparo Green Arrow has any bearing at all on Aparo Batman. And Byrne WW is not a comp for Byrne Superman, Byrne Demon, or Byrne Generations.
  7. Make no mistake, it is completely silo'ed. I don't even look at other titles unless there is a complete absence of comps for the character/title I'm trying to vet.
  8. My version of "no brown M&M's". Just making sure you're paying attention!
  9. Thought I'd share some pics of the current Joe Q show at Society of Illustrators. There was also a gallery sale of illustration art on the first floor, but I didn't get too many pics of those because there were chairs everywhere from Quesada's talk. If you're in town, check it out! https://smile.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/4bOtZS41LlAxsEDL0M8Zpt0Bzt1GYzKroAwjz3hkRFK
  10. First week of January. So still some time for everyone to run out and buy some competition!
  11. This might be a good time to plug our upcoming "Best of 2019 - Budget Edition" thread! You all didn't think I forgot about that did you?! (Cue groans...) You can relive last year's shameless exhibitionism here-
  12. Maybe do some searches or browsing on CAT- https://comicarttracker.com/artists-characters-and-series and then use the Filters on the left to narrow between $100-$500. Are you looking for published or unpublished? Feel free to PM me and we can narrow it down a little if you don't want to broadcast your want list. I don't have anything for sale at the moment, but I bet I can point you at some nice stuff at that price point.
  13. Yes, I believe many are already in there- https://comicarttracker.com/dealers Click the Artists filter on the left side.
  14. Thought I would update with a few art pics from the Society last night. I highly recommend checking out the illustration art as well as the Quesada art exhibits if you are in the NY area. https://smile.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/4bOtZS41LlAxsEDL0M8Zpt0Bzt1GYzKroAwjz3hkRFK
  15. And yet, that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. And I'm pretty sure that's what Bernie was going for here. You're not supposed to notice it right away.
  16. Lest we forget... It's a wrap cover. So you need dead area on the top back for copy. Purely a mechanical concern.

  18. Really bummed to hear this. I use that site frequently for reference. The Fandom wikis come up easily in Google searches. I guess I will lean on those more. I find the GCD interface unusable.
  19. Methinks the Batman 251 cover just lost a bid or two. This auction season raises a host of questions... Is this the beginning of the End? Is this a bull market cash out or a generational one? Both? Can we expect loads of A+++ Boomer goodies every auction cycle from now on?
  20. I am so upset this is coming to auction before I have the means to get it- https://profilesinhistory.com/auctions/comic-illustration-art-the-property-of-a-distinguished-american-collector/ Any predictions?
  21. Graphite particles don't really "fade". Inks would be more likely to, but are certainly more resistant than color. Based on all of the examples, I think the first thing you will see with a B&W inked piece is paper tanning. Modern acid-free Bristol is certainly more archival than older materials, but sun damage is still a concern. Rotate your wall pieces every few months or at least keep them out of direct sunlight and use museum plexi.
