  1. I appreciate all of your passionate lobbying, gentle-beings. The BEAB (Budget Edition Advisory Board) will certainly take all of these things under advisement.
  2. Well, the decorations have been put away. The stale cookies have all been eaten. 2019 is proper over, but one thing remains... COMIC ART COLLECTING GLORY!!! Russian bots have worked laboriously to tally the votes and the winners are... In the PUBLISHED category, @PhilipB2k17 billy-clubs his way into first place with his Alan Davis and Mark Farmer Daredevil page! In the UNPUBLISHED category, @fenip unleashes his inner Kraken courtesy of Jeremy Bastian! The Budget Edition Advisory Board decided to carry over a popular category from last year... Therefore, this year's TASTEMAKER and the boardie with the overall most votes goes to @damonwatson ! Congrats, you have the most discerning palate under $500. And in the FEELIN' DIRTY category (which I just made up), @GotSuperPowers?flies the friendly skies with his Goran Parlov Punisher page! Congrats on corrupting our innocent minds! *Honorable mention to @mister_not_so_nice for sneaking a finger in there at the end. Thanks to everyone for their entries and voting this year. Once again, some beautiful art. I think limiting the entries to 3 tightened things up this time. We will continue to play around with the numbers next year to keep it fresh. Meanwhile, please tell your friends next year! There is a ton of great art on CAF, IG, FB, 2DG that would qualify. So, let's get them over here. See you here for Best of 2020. If anybody needs to sell a kidney, I got a guy! This year's Budget Edition was sponsored by BumWine.com.
  3. Sorry folks. COMPLETELY snowed under with work this week. I will get to it soon! Get the caramel-covered popcorn ready (but put your art away first!)
  4. Is he a non-U.S. collector? If so, that might have been what scared her off.
  5. Finally, a worthy successor to "Love at First Bite"!
  6. OK, entries are now CLOSED! I will leave voting open until tomorrow just in case anyone wants to take one more pass through the thread. Then, I will tally everything up.
  7. Last day for entries and voting, everyone! Feel free to link the thread on FB, etc.
  8. Hey all, post your 3 best OA or sketch cover pieces of 2019 over in the Best of 2019: Budget Edition thread in the OA forum! https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/462110-best-of-2019-budget-edition-entries-now-open/
  9. Should we cross-post a link over in Comics General to get more eyes on Budget Edition?
  10. Just another note... You don't have to participate with an entry in order to vote! Everyone and anyone can vote. This is the internet people... you're supposed to weigh in with your opinion.
  11. Costs of carry like shipping, insurance, convention fees, packing materials don't count.
  12. Totally optional! We're on the honor system. But overall, I'd like everyone to judge based on the art. Based on years past, as well as the CAF Best Of, when you take price out of the mix it's very interesting to see how people start evaluating things.
  13. I think at this point most people are factoring it into their purchases.
  14. Slight rule change to include sales tax and BP in the total price of the art. But if anyone already posted something where sales tax pushed it over $500, don't take it down.
  15. Yep. Edited and clarified. But if anyone already posted something where sales tax pushed it over $500, don't take it down.
  16. Steve Ditko is guest moderating the Budget Edition discussion thread this year: That Steve, such a cut up!
  17. Happy New Year, art-o-holics! Put away your Black Label and reach for the Boone's, because it's time for the Best of 2019... ...BUDGET EDITION! The year-end review where OA's 99-percenters have a shot at glory! Once again, this is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of 2019. So be sure to post over there when they open for entries. Now in our glorious third year, Budget Edition is intended to show the breadth and quality of comic art that can be had for relative bargains. One year at NYCC, I asked a comic dealer if he had any original art. He replied, "Why? That's a rich man's hobby." I ignored his 5-figure Golden Age books and moved on, but his comment bothered me. So, my continual wish is that Budget Edition encourages new collectors to test the waters and then slowly slide into the deep end of this fun hobby. Enough hopes and dreams. Let's get to the RULES... RULES FOR ENTRY: Post ONE PIECE OF ART per reply. This is your entry. There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry. Attach the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published). Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it there.) You cannot have paid more than $500 for the art. (Up from $400 last year because prices are through the darn roof! But I think $500 is still something most comics people could pull off in a month or two of patience and savings.) This price must include Buyer's Premium and Sales Tax. Shipping, handling, and insurance are not factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system! No more than THREE entries per person. (Mixing it up a little from last year's 8-piece limit.) You can post any combination of PUBLISHED or UNPUBLISHED as long as you do not post more than THREE pieces total. -- But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY so we can vote properly. Illustration, game, movie, original animation, and merchandise art are all eligible. Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not. You must have acquired the piece during 2019. If you paid for it, but it hasn't arrived yet, it is still eligible. VOTING: Voting opens as soon as a piece is posted! So post early to get more eyeballs on your piece. Click the LIKE button in the bottom right corner of the entries you like. You can LIKE as many entries as you want. Voting and entries will close January 6. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 8 or 9 and post near the end of the thread. If you want to discuss the contest, please post in the other Discussion thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here. OK, show me whatchu workin' with!
  18. This is probably a good idea, but definitely the wrong week night. Most people are still overwhelmed from the beginning of the work week on Monday night. This will hurt art sales. They should go with Tues, Wed, or Thurs.
  19. I watch Hoarders they way other people watch British Bake Off. It calms me.
  20. You see clutter. I see opportunity!
  21. I wouldn't try it. If you really need something that large, your best bet is to buy a roll of Dura-Lar and cut a piece to size- https://www.dickblick.com/products/grafix-wrap-dura-lar-rolls/ But they make mylar sleeves and L-sleeves up to poster sizes- https://www.bagsunlimited.com/category/214/poster-sleeves-backings-polyester-mylar Also, if you call Bags Unlimited, I bet they could put together a "sample pack" if you just need onesies or twosies of a few oddball sizes. Or hit up one of the supply dealers at the next NYCC/SDCC. Ask them to bring a few pieces of the sizes you need and pickup at the show. For very large non-paper paintings on board or canvas, you are probably better off cutting a mat spacer out of archival foamcore and storing in a gallery box. I wouldn't use mylar in those cases. I think we all have our dollar cutoff, but anything under about $1500, I just put in the portfolio directly to save space. He's my spirit animal.
