I got my submission for this year back this week.

The Modern portion (5 books) showed up a few weeks ago. One slab had a very small piece of whatever that black stuff is that’s going into people’s slabs in the back of the slab.  Another slab had a slight scuff on the back of slab. To me that stuff is minor and not worth the risk of CGC really doing some damage on an ME fix.

So I got the Vintage portion (6 books) this week. Three slabs had slight scuffs on the outside on the backs. But two of the slabs had that small crack on the side of the slab that looks like it’s on the inside of the slab. And when you look at the slab head-on it looks like there’s shatter cracking in the seam like when you try and crack a slab.

I think the integrity of the slab is secure but it does have the appearance of someone trying to mess with the slab. Probably going to be a problem if/when I sell them.

So only one submission in a year and only 11 books totally. Not a great ratio.

And no indication on the invoice of which “quality excellence specialist” or whatever inspected this before being shipped out. Guess they gave up on that pretense.

I think CGC will spin that small crack as it is so common now… similar to the invention of “Newton Rings”, this crack will henceforth be referred to as the…

    ”FRACTURE OF AUTHENTICITY”

…per CGC standard definitions.  Official update to terms coming soon!

Once again, I am late to the party on recognizing this error. After over a year of waiting on the new magazine slabs, I failed to notice that these two books have the issue numbers swapped. Does this mean that these books each have different grades or they are just incorrectly labeled?

Just had the same happen to a couple of mine!

I know I have a couple but haven't looked at them since taking a pic to look at...

Is it just the new gen slab, and has it caused problems needing reholders with all of them?

I’d have to check if any of them are earlier generation holders… can’t remember for sure.

Do know for sure they are a problem with the current holder… worst are on black back covers.  I have not had a bend but the edges of the wedge tend to cut into the cover. I usually tap the book as far off the wedge as I can and then carefully store the book.  Drives me crazy. Don’t plan on sending in any reholders (like I used to) because I don’t trust they won't be damaged in another way.

Would you guys send this back for a reholder or keep it as-is?

This book is 9.8, and it has a bit of an indentation on the back spine, likely due to the wedge. Not too big or noticeable, unless under direct light at an angle.

It is an expensive book in a 9.8, and being potentially downgraded from a 9.8 to a 9.6 would be detrimental.

The top and bottom edges also have a very slight waviness. The book was perfectly flat before getting graded, so the inner well may be too tight.

I have several books with that wedge, and not one of them is better off for it.  Sorry your book got jacked up like this!

Recommend new set for the 30th Anniversary books.  Not additions to the existing DOS set.

Previous Admin and Users collaborated several years ago and decided the Superman (Doomsday! Funeral for a Friend Reign of the Supermen) set would be limited to the original books published from 1992-1993.  At that time other reprints were also removed such as the 2005 MOS 19 reprint, as well as the Platinum TPB. Set was also renamed at that time to reflect this.

I really missed old CGC service.

And old CCS service before CGC bought Classics… I remember several times being advised personally by Matt not to press a Golden Age book (too fragile) or to just not press a book, period, because it wouldn’t benefit.

Back then you felt like you had sent your books to be pressed and graded by someone that loved them as much as you did… now I’m not even convinced my Moderns are pressed half the time.

This is great news! Unfortunately, I attempted this method of communication last week and was unable to receive messages back. I hope this will be fixed soon and I understand this is in the early stages. I can already imagine this being a great new way of communicating with you guys at CGC. Y'all are the best. Thank you!

I tried this as well, also could not receive texts back.

However Nicki O. took the initiative and emailed me when I think she realized it… I had a thorough reply very quickly @CGC Mike

Checked my phone settings and cannot explain why I could not receive the texts.

Newsstand editions are different from directs at the time of manufacture. The difference affect their value. Dismiss this if you like, but the difference is meaningful in an absolute sense (the comics are not identical) and relative sense (newsstand collectors like myself don't even look at direct editions as legitimate collecting targets).

So, as far as I am concerned, direct editions are "collectible" only because other people want them. For that reason, I own some for the purpose of trading but do not consider them part of my collection.

lol as you can see, I left this conversation six months ago. Will only say now that none of my opinions have changed regarding this issue or newsstand accountability.  Particularly when talking about additional slots in competitive sets and points.  Glad you enjoy them though.

"Superman hasn't done anything to Batman"

Okay, so I concede that he might have done something to raise a red flag or two lol

Great insights!  I just think there are a lot more layers to these movies than anyone gives them credit for, especially with the BvS ultimate edition and the ZSJL.  I think over time they will stand alone even stronger as great character pieces inside a pretty unique world.  I think that even Lex, as weird as that portrayal was, had more to offer given more time... particularly in the BvS ultimate edition, you kind of get a glimpse that there is actually more genius behind the babbling public persona than he lets on.  I felt like he was sort of pulling one over on everyone.

I also forgot to mention that I initially wasn't thrilled about how Doomsday was done but I hung onto what the Genesis Chamber robots said, something like 'the Krypotinian Council has decreed that never again will such an abomination be created' which made me think that perhaps that another (the original) Doomsday had been created in such a way as Hunter/Prey and was out there somewhere (maybe even buried on Earth) and that the BvS Doomsday was just a creature made from that research which involved speeding up evolution.  Not that I ever wanted to see another Doomsday pop out of the ground, just that I thought that was cool.

Anyways, as this is the SUPERMAN: LEGACY thread I'll say again that I am really happy so far with the casting.  Hey, maybe Gunn really is the guy to take Superman in the DCEU to the next level!!  I hope so, would be so much fun to have a movie/Universe that is universally loved the way it should be.

I already thanked Adamantium in another thread, but everyone on this one (especially Iconic1s) pointed me in the directions I needed to finally tackle this!

I jumped on working to edit one of my custom sets that I'd love to have them recognize.  SUPER addictive, and I had to dust off some VERY old coding knowledge to put together what I have so far.  I'm sure I'll tweak it a million times, and that my code is over complicated, but it isn't bad for a first attempt at "making them look pretty!"

Only going to have time to work on the one Custom Set heading into the final week... I'll need to tackle the MCU one for next year (while adding to this one still)!

Please humor me and take a look at My Custom Set that I hope they also notice, and truly... thanks again!

Other than Superman: The Animated Series actually being the greatest cartoon ever, your set looks amazing! 😁

All kidding aside, it really is wonderful.  The stories are a lot of fun.  Brought back some great memories… never worked at WBSS but my Wife and I were regulars at the store in the Mission Valley Mall store in San Diego.  After awhile, the Gallery Manager would call me whenever a new Superman piece was coming out and I’d often agree to purchase it just based on the artist.  Got to meet Mark Hamill at the Horton Plaza store… he was supposed to sign the Joker maquette but ended up signing a metal plate to attach to it (which I can’t find now).  I remember him coming in all dressed in black and doing the Joker laugh, it was amazing!  I was heart broken when they shut the stores down, never made sense.

Anyways, I really enjoyed your set!  Thanks for taking me back to some really fun times!

    Good luck with the awards!

No it's not.  It's proof that this particular book didn't go through QC.  Comic book people and hyperbole...name a more iconic duo.

So I guess that QC from the ‘most trusted’ company means spot checking every few books then…

This is a bit different than a small hair, or plastic shard (which is also unacceptable) it’s a huge piece of paper.  Even the shipping guy could have seen this and stopped it from going out (if the company had a culture where they care about customer satisfaction).

I stand behind my statement that they aren’t doing QC… they are slinging books through so fast and just rolling the dice that things work out (for them).

As for a more iconic duo… how about your lips and my :censored:
