And my last book just closed at well under either value or even 10% the last comp for the book from 6 years ago
-
ANd my Seven Seas Big Apple was 1/3rd less than the book sold for last year
-
OUCH my New Book #2 closed at barely 1/2 what the same book sold for in Decmeber

I had to go back and read what I actually wrote.
Meant to say biggest of the 25 lots I consigned through heritage, and the biggest sale of a book for me in my 55 years as a reader/collector/part-time dealer/investor/four color collector in comic books.
Got a few other Early golden age books closing tomorrow like New Book of Comics #2

For the first time ever I watched the live streaming of the Thursday session It was fun seeing several of the books increase 5 fold in the 2 minutes it took.
I sold the biggest lot in that session Was both happy and disappointed for the Highest graded Special Edition #1 to reach auction in well over a decade to only jump from 3100 to 3700. To me that is a big book. Could not even imagine paying/owning a 50K book

Updating my spreadsheets to track all the new books since last year. I realized that upping my average grade to a 5.0 is going to be the most difficult of my 2020 goals
Since I have about 1250 books, increasing the average grade by even .1 would take an additional 125 "points" which translates to replacing 25 at 2.5 with 7.5's
Making it even harder I am focusing on adding books that are either First Series or under 100 which are usually going to below my current 4.6 average grade
Here are two of my most recent additions/upgrades from MCS
- Badger, PopKulture, Tri-Color Brian and 2 others

Hulk closed at 2001. nipping the other bidder who was at 2000
The 4 books I bought as an investment back about 15 years ago are closing this week starting off with the Special Edition #1 TOMORROW. This is the nicest copy of the first book devoted to Captain Marvel in well over a decade
During that closing I will likely be at the Retina specialist getting a pelet inserted into my EYE via needle. Hoping to stop the diabetic retinopathy
Remember if you win one of my books I will purchase some of your FOUR COLORS

I think this is a generally accepted list

I think by the end of March I should be down to under 100. At some point I will have to officially incorporate the "missing Four COlors to my spreadsheet. I did my best to track them down on MycomicShop.com and added about 20 to my want list there.
Here is one I just got from Heritage where U have consigned a small box of books last year.

Now that I have so much more data accessible I have been doing more statistical analysis
My longest unbroken streak is between 598-672 for 75 consecutive issues. the next best ones are only 45 and 43 issues
the average grade of my books is only 4.63 with the lowest grades in the below 100 section as we would expect, in the low 3's but the highest grades are in the 6,7, 8 and 1100s all of which are just over 5.
My goal for 2020 is add at least 25 missing books and upgrade at least 50. Would love to bring the average grade up to at least 5.0 as well

Just got this Missing FOur Color in last week
Common Wisdom seemed to have this as number 1344 based on a number of 01-232-209
AS you can see the actual number is 01-232-207 meaning it was Not a September issue, but was instead issues in July of 1962. I would argue that this was the 5th of the missing books and should be more like issue 1314

Hulk is up to 1800 with the closing on Sunday
-
All 6 books are open for bidding
Led off by the Hulk 181 already at $1,250
Hoping all of my sales via Heritage auctions yield enough to pay for the 2016 Mercedes B250e I bought my wife last year just prior to consigning last September
To paraphrase Chicago voting "Bid Early and Bid Often"
Thanks for looking

Now that I have grades and costs in the RAW data section of my Spreadsheet I figured it was time to start really working with the DATA. I built a Query sheet where all I have to do is enter an issue number and I can see if the book is missing, or if I have it what grade and price info I have for my copy.. It is setup to permit many multiple queries on the same page. Really a useful tool when looking to fill holes and upgrade issues in a very compact manner.
I plan on transfering the Thank You data from the Word Documnet into this sheet and would like to add the Title for each issue. as an aid.
I was wondering if anyone here has list of titles in some kind of word doc, or spreadsheet the I can cut into mine?

While for many here these are not big books they certainly were for me
My 4 better consigned books were delayed to the March 5-8 Signature Auction.
All scans are available, and the bidding actually opened a few days ago.
Special Edition 1 CGC 6.5
Seven Seas 1 Big Apple CGC 8.5
New Book of Comics 2 CGC 5.5
Uncle Sam Quarterly 1 CGC 7.5
These books have not been up for sale for nearly 20 years, and were part of one of my last major comic investments.
Also hitting the blocks in the NEXT Sunday-Monday Weekly (FEB 17-24) auction are two of my better Silver/Bronze books that are recently back for grading. Hulk 181 7.0 and Aquaman 29 8.0
Besides my 7.0 there is also an 8.0 in the same auction. Hope mine comes after the higher grade one.
That still leaves 2 other recently slabbed books (Cap 100 and Aquaman 11) to be scheduled.
As I mentioned previously if you win one or more of my auctions I will use the net proceeds to buy missing or upgrade FOUR COLOR issues for my collection. I am currently missing just over 100 issues and want to upgrade at least another 200 issues. For example if you win the Hulk 181 with a hammer of $2,000, you will pay $2,400 with BP and I will net $1,800 after SP. That will leave me with $1,800 to spend on your NICE, but often hard to move Four Colors. Net result, for $600 and a pile of Four Colors you can have a nice Hulk 181. Call it a QUID-PRO-QUO if you will, but more like a perfect transaction to me.
Feel free to pm me with questions

I think I snagged the last table for the swap meet.
I am looking for FOUR COLORS via trade.
I will post the list of the 100+ that I still need as well as the 200+ that I am looking for upgrades to say F or above
Will be bringing mid grade Marvel and DC's primarily Silver age. Also random slabs and excess Four Color inventory
Was it like 6 short boxes on a table? and will I have space behind to bring a small display board?

I have been working on refining my tracking system to include as much information as possible
In the last month I have quick graded all of my collection and entered that data in a new section of my tracking sheet. I have also added another new section for value at time of trade (i.e.cost basis)where that information was available
With the 1/2 dozen books on the way I am now down to just 109 issues missing and just over 200 that are in serious need of an upgrade
I am now only one book (673) away from completing all of the 600's my first completed column
Here are some of the First series issues, no idea when I posted them last. I am sure that many of them are on the "to be Upgraded" list, just not likely to happen for a long time

The scans are up for the 4 Golden Age books I first mentioned in this thread. Well for 3 of the 4 anyway. New Book still shows the placeholder of the GL junkie issue
For some reason they got bumped into the March 5-7 Signature Auction, but the links still work
Books are :
Special Edition 1 CGC 6.5
New Book of Comics 2 CGC 5.5
Seven Seas 1 (Big Apple) CGC 8.5
Uncle Sam Quarterly 1 CGC 7.5
All of these are old slabs. Who knows what they could CPR into
Thanks for looking , and especially to those who bid

Finished, at least for now, a redesign of my spreadsheet to be able to produce a concise 1 page want list that distinguishes missing from upgrades.
Many thanks to kaculler for providing me with the Title Index so I could import the data
While the new style is much more cluttered than the one I came up with a few years ago, I think that adding the title and and current grade is very valuable
