  1. I had the same problem at FEDEX_Kinkos last year. Had a long box with top and bottom lid that I was sending to MYCOMICSHOP and they ( FEDEX) would not accept it. There was a USPS location in the same shopping mall, and the same result. Finally I went to a UPS store also in the same complex. This guy would happily ship. He must have used half a roll of tape wrapping around the box for free. Price was reasonable, and the box arrived without incident. I have already sent another box through him and plan to do so for future shipments. I good location can earn the business.
  2. I have only been to SDCC twice and while I enjoyed the spectacle I was there to buy/trade comics. I only went those times as I coupled it with a family vacation. I prefer a real COMIC BOOK convention like when it was back in the OLDE days at the SHRINE. I would especially enjoy if buying prices were the same as back then
  3. My friend and I tried to buy tickets on 6/15 and the website wanted us to buy out the show. Even though we only wanted 2 tickets it was trying to force us to pay over 13,000
  4. I casually collect the 50's 3-d books and had never seen either of these books
  5. I use the air bags that are used for packing as spacers in my long boxes
  6. I went to passport comics in my early adult collecting days probably around 1986. The owner Earle Bowman was a hoot . Also went to ninth nebula which was a hole in the wall shop behind a dental supply office. That one was owned by Rob Gustaveson. I remember going to the house of American Comic book and pulling many books from their basement stash prior to them moving
  7. for the non-mathematically challenged that is a 2.564% increase in the base revenue for Heritage Did they also increase the minimum Dollar amount?
  8. I have always been a completist when possible. I realized that I was never going to be able to complete any DC silver age run that extended back to the Golden Age though I did give Superboy a good try. Somewhere along the way I shifted to Classics Illustrated. While accumulating Classics I branched and completed out into the related Series ( Classics Jr's, World Around Us and Fast Fiction/Famous Authors) When the remaining classics dropped to only a handful of issues ( unless I switched to either First editions only or a copy of EACH HRN) I upped the game to FOUR COLORS While I would love to complete the 1350+ run of FC's much more realistic is completing the few remaining Classics.
  9. Guess I am a bit older then most here. I started reading at 12 cents. When visiting older cousins I read some of their older 10 centers . I read the one page justification for the 20% increase. Years later when the price went up to 15 cents they used the exact same wording as the ten year previous increase. About a year after that 25% increase I stopped. Did not start back until mid original crises which I think was just after the increase from 60 to 75. I have been on for the ride forward and backward ever since
  10. Yes but you have the heck beat out of me in each other Hundred except for the 10xx's where we are tied at 96 and the 13xx where I have you beat 22 to 18. I am sure it gets much harder when you are down to the last hundred books. How many First Series do you have? I have jumped up to 11 of those 25 which is probably the hardest section to dig up. I have all kinds of statistical analysis on the non printed pages but that is for the super analytic types like a fellow Actuary. For example I have now have all 13 of the xx00, xx56, xx58, xx71, xx80, xx82, xx86 and xx86 books and all 14 of the xx12 xx36 and xx48 rows.
  11. Here is my current FOUR COLOR HAVE list. with 1130 issues in hand and the ability to handle the entire series. You can see the progress I have made with 70 of the first 99 and 79 of the 1xx issues. Way back when I think I only had 19 of the first and 26 of the second hundred issues. AS always the trading hut is open for business on any of the missing issues
  12. In the early days of my collecting i tried to actively maintain an inventory with these manual spreadsheets from the BAG MAN. He had pad of 50 sheets and you could get 400 on one page. He even sold a set of 401-800 for the really long running series. This is the last update I did for my FOUR COLOR's prior to switching to a real spreadsheet over a decade ago. I had to jury rig another sheet to accommodate 801-1200 and never tracked the either the First series or the last 154 issues. He also sold plastic title dividers. Placed a nice order from him in the early 90's as this was copyrighted in 1990 with intentional errors in the numbering
  13. So we are speculating on how the John Verzyl accumulation will be dispersed by the heirs and or estate Especially all of the Mile High Books he had . Was wondering if the Mile Highs in the auction completed last week were also from his personal stash? I was certainly bidding a few of the Four Colors as if they were. Never thought I would even be close on any of them, but was actually the underbidder on one.
  14. Nice to see you post here Monty. Your posts were among the ones that got me on my Four Color Trading Quest, as well as being among my earlest patners. I must admit I do not ever remember seeing this cover previously. Quite interesting if you ever find yourself with an undercopy to pass on........ I am enjoying seeing all of the beautiful High Grade Mile High Four Colors up for Auction at Heritage. Too bad for the circumstances that caused their resurfacing here are a few more from Blissard
  15. I am still mulling over the BCE life-x-tenders plus. They are very expensive through his site directly ( 70 cents each when you buy a thousand, but over a$ each if you only buy 100. They are MUCH less expensive if you purchase from mycomicshop.com $25 for a pack of 50. I am going to order some next time I place an order from MCS. Sure wish somebody had experience with this particular product
  16. While I had noticed the stamp, I had not actually read it. This must have been from an early comic or used book dealer from Colorado springs named Sollo's. Never run across that previously. Here are some others from Blissard
  17. Have another batch from Blissard Sure looks like a lotta horsing around in this group
  18. This thread seems to be as good as any I have used BCE mylites and thin extenders for over 20 years now. As far as I can tell in the books where those have been used there had been no degradation in that period. The bags, books and boards still look absolutely like the day they were stored. By question is about inserts into the bag/board combo Specifically BCE Life-X-Tenders Plus Has anyone used this product from Bill Cole? They seem like they should help preserve books similar to the way that MicroChamber paper does. They start at $1.16 each with the suggestion of 2 per book. Even in quantity of 1000 they are still 69.5 cents each SO I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them. I suppose that microchamber paper is an option, but I did not find many suppliers of that, and did not want to use the much maligned CommicSupply. MCP is still more like 30 cents each in quantity but how effective are they versus the newer different BCE product
  19. Here are the earliest books I got from Terry. I have really been trying to include books from the first 100 when possible, and am now up to 70 from that range. Would love to pick up First Series books, but so very hard to find those
  20. LoI did not find any thing at Burbank, but did pick this up at SFO. The finger cover is inside the black one, so no t as many variants as you might think
  21. Four color number 1. Either first or second series, and as is always the kicker, through trade

  23. I have one pulled at my LCS as part of my regular pull list, but I only go in to pick up books every month or so to see what I have. I am going to the airport later today and plan on looking in the shop to see if they have either this or the recent MAD #1 reboot. I little light reading for the business trip
  24. I am interested in what the reboogered oops rebooted MAD will be like. I read MAD often as a Kid, probably even subscribing for a year of so back in the 60's Always loved SPy vs Spy, the lighter side of , and the fold-ins I got back into them with the advent of ebay in the early 2000's I would find great buys on those and/or archies and would put together a big stack for each of my daughters as one of the gifts for the 8 crazy nights of Hanukkah. My older appreciated the books much more than the younger and often read them at bedtime. As I was recombining the sections of the collection I think that I have about 300 issues dating back to the first magazine size issue ( 24?) with only a small group of dupes. I have the 7 CD boxed set of the issues through 1998, but the only time I went to use it the operating system was SO SLOW that it was painful. Perhaps it was only a computer issue and now that I have upgraded at least 2 generations maybe the operation will be faster
