  1. I don't know about that. We make the consensus here, and all information is helpful and can be integrated. And they certainly are a wealth of information because it's their day job (and yes I realize that means they may want some art to be high so they can sell it and some art low so they can buy it). But better to have the info than not, and I understand that a lot of it is trades and cash/trades.
  2. They may agree with the prices, or feel they are close enough. I know a lot of people who have sent me thanks privately for updating, but haven't commented. But I agree would be nice to get their opinion, even if it is that it looks generally good. But most importantly definitely want to know about sales that may change the tiers on some of the artists, if we are off.
  3. Ha ha, they could be listed Marvelman or Miracleman since they were reprinted, but I see your point. As to your point about Leach inks, I think some of that will have to be extrapolated. We are trying not to be too detailed on any one title as those nuances people should still have to research. On a related note, I had been thinking of putting the A pages from Davis in the 10-20K range, as I don't think you can get an early A page by him for less than 10K now (they are also large art mainly), so that would also address your concern regarding Leach inks.
  4. Nice! How much did it sell for? I'm guessing < 30-40K back then! That's a gorgeous cover and truly one of the best of all time.
  5. Uh .... that's why the rate in Ontario is so low ....You guys are trying to kill it by not leaving it room to grow. We, on the other hand, are waiting for miracles.
  6. I bet A pages by Davis on MM would be over 10K these days, but I'm fine leaving it at 5-10K. What do others think?
  7. Thanks Mark! I'll add it to the original post after we flesh out more. I think as originally envisioned, we thought A was a special keeper page, such as top 20% of that artist/title. A+ would be top 5% or so. The A++ really should only be historic first appearances or other importance that in some respects transcends the artist/run. In most cases these would be very important books as Chuck mentioned (first appearance of major character). We could also simply get rid of A++ as they really do transcend the artist/title, and that would solve your issues about watering down the A panel page. In that case, we could just say Covers/Historic Pages for the first category and make the range 3X to 6X. Like this: Covers or Pages that Transcend Artist/Run (eg. first appearances) 3 to 6X A+ Exceptional Page (top 5%) 1.5 to 2X A Special Keeper Page (top 20%) 1X B Nice Representative Example (top 50%) 0.50 to 0.75X C Placeholder / Might Upgrade (bottom 50%) 0.25 to 0.40X
  8. I know the MM market very well. Would agree on Davis at 5-10K. Leach and Totleben are already on the list. Which other artists are you talking about? Feel free to make suggestions on artist and price range. I will add Davis to the list at that level. Let's hear comments on the Bis market.
  9. I'm happy to raise them if there no contrary opinions. Anyone else want to chime in? I am not an expert on this one.
  10. Getting back to the original topic, 400K is a great price for this! It's a beautiful cover but that's gotta be a record for Gene Colan. Seems like all the iconic memorable covers from the 60s are headed in this direction.
  11. I'm out. No indoor gatherings for me until enough people are vaccinated and/or the prevalence drops below 1% like it was over the Summer. But, then again, I'm a doctor and don't just hear about the war on TV - I see it in the real world. Anthony is a good friend and I wish him well on this, but I'll wait.
  12. Thanks Chuck. Yeah key issues are basically A++ pages where values would be impossible to ascertain. My guess is you can probably at least double the A page value when talking about those pages. And you can probably extrapolate most covers at 4X to 6X the price of an A page. These are just my guesses to get people in a reasonable range, but I'm interested in hearing other peoples' thoughts. Just for kicks: Covers 4 to 6X A++ 2 to 3X A+ 1.5 to 2X A 1X B 0.60 to 0.8X C 0.25 to 0.50X
  13. Mine was part of a larger deal but valued at 50K and it was about 4 years ago. I would consider it an A page. I do think the A pages from the book are over 40K if not 50K , with the remainder of the book in the 30-40K range. It's a small book with a limited # of spreads as each spread is 2 pages really, so I don't think it's hard to believe that the top 20% of the book would be over 40K when the B and C pages were sold for 20-25K over half a decade ago. I was talking to Joseph M this morning about the list. A challenge is that this list is about values, which is a mix of bonafide sales and also what one feels they would have to offer to get a certain page. Hence, value, not price. Some art rarely trades hands (like 300, DKR), but we can guess what it will go for if it hit the market. We haven't seen any DKR A pages in a while, but we know where we have to put them on this list. KJ also went through about half of decade of zero sales, but then no surprise that they doubled in value when one hit the market. If we only concentrate on sales, then we are unable to appreciate escalating value over time in the absence of sales.
  14. I'm going to add a 50K+ tier and drop Byrne UXM there and push up BWS X up there. LMK what you guys think. Still too premature on the BWS or do we think A pages truly have multiple takers at that range? Also, are we happy with A Watchmen pages being 40K+ or should they move to 50K+?
  15. Hi Harry! We can add them in. The ST 101 pages seem to be hitting lower end of 10-20K. I can put them there as they are solid A pages due to the importance of the book. Hari Naidu
  16. Also here is Felix's response to how to price Silver Surfer Black right now: "There was a frenzy on the secondary market after we sold the art that I really thought would have subsided by now. It hasn't. It only seems to have gotten worse. I've never seen anything like this before. It baffles even me. Having said that...it still feels too new to include here. The people who are hunting it know what it's worth to them. Let's wait a bit, at least for a public sale or two to solidify things for everyone. I did just broker a deal for a cover, and once that deal is done, I will make the purchase price public. You guys can then decide if that means anything relative to page values."
  17. I was wondering about this too. Is it the A+ pages that are 60K+? If so then we should drop down to 40K+. This is the same reasoning for the BWS X pages staying at 40K+. I worry that it's really the A+ pages hitting the higher bracket. Also, in the case of BWS, there are only two sales and one is a splash (that is better than most covers, and became a cover of the TPB), and the other was a private deal but was all-cash by report. Let's get some more consensus in either direction on these two.
  18. Value and what you have to pay to pry something out are two separate things. If enough people pry them out, then the value moves up. How it's always been
  19. Oh, hey Terry, how are you? I don't know all the member handles (so the real names help LOL!). Absolutely. I think his point though was that if the values were way off, we would be hearing about it. That's probably true. This is the sort of thread that should go quiet until some new price point has to be adjusted. We see a flurry of activity now bc it is new, but I don't expect this to be a thread that is "active" every day, nor should it be. It's more of a price guide that should be pinned on the front page. Speaking of that, how does that happen?
  20. Agree totally. This is obviously a market analysis thread. Just like the Overstreet Price Guide was never about loving comics. There're lots of other threads, and I think it's a given that the majority of collectors both love and appreciate the art and also need to know values so they don't get "taken". This thread is meant to do simply that. Of course it's cold, it is treating it more as a commodity - but, again, only on this thread. Pretty sure the title of the thread is not misleading
  21. OK, will add Vess and PCR at the 10-20K, understanding that the best pages which include specific storylines are A+ pages. Agree we want to avoid being too specific.
  22. So..... for our Sandman experts, keep Bachalo in 10-20K? Where do we put Vess and PCR? Are those pages you are talking about in the 20-30K range A+ pages? If so, then we put the typical A level Vess/PCR in the 10-20K range, no?
